I'm of the mind set that if CDs ever get redone it will be like the figures not like the artwork. GW tried Chaos Dwarfs with big hats... didn't work out...

My opinion is use whatever you like best; chances are that when (and if) GW finally releases the new range, the models will look totally different than either style anyway. They also like to change styles considerably with every new edition, see the next phase of Bloodletters which are about to be released!

Respectfully disagree. If anything the new bloodletters are VERY similiar in look to the 3rd edition ones,  I know, I have about 12 of them. Also look at the new high elf dragon, same pose as the 3rd edition dragon for the high elves.

It could be said with GW now "What once was old is new again".

I also agree with the go with what you like sentiment being expressed here. But my comments on big hats still stand.

As I said in my previous post the chances for helms aer good on the ordinary foottoads, but on the Heroes and Lords stylished helmets in the way of Babylonian Kings wouldnt be all bad. Lets face it, the Dawi are the Babylonians and Assyrians of the Warhammer world and GW have made that too clear to just ignore that when (if) they remake them.

Nobody is disputing that. However its simple economics. CD's failed in the market place horribly. GW is unlikely to repeat the tall hat fiasco simply because they cannot afford for them to sell so poorly again. To this day when someone mentions CDs (and they play warhammer) the first response/image that many come to mind is "Oh yeah the goofy looking/absurd helm dwarfs!". Not all, but often in my experience. That is a tough perception to overcome. I'm a perfect example. I picked CDs not because of the models in fact in spite of them. I chose  CDs for the awesome list, even with its current deficiencies.

Now, with that being said I have no problem with the way anyone wants to depict their CD army. There is no "wrong way" to do so as it stands, especially in light of only 3 official chaos dwarf figures in the official model range for 6th/7th. If you like big hats do so, if you like 3rd edition models go with too. Hashut has a "big enough hat" to encompass all! Wink

No, but I'd be willing to bet that there won't be anymore CDs with hats as large as the dwarf model itself. And I'm not a betting man.
I don't see much change with the hobbos other then the removal of the smurf like hats...

The 3rd edition fluff aludded to as much for the hobbos. Something about Hobgobla Khan... Not sure how mongol style hobbos fits them now. Sure the DOW hobbos are mongol style...

Mongol fits them just fine. The RoR Hobgoblin unit is certainly very Mongolian to look at. Plus the Boss in that unit is called Oglah Khan. More mongolian and they would be riding yaks.

I wonder what the stat line for a Yak would be? Definitely causing fear methinks... Happy

Hmmm Pyro can't imagine what you might be alluding to... Rolleyes
Spam anyone?
Fair enough... to a point.

Hobgobbla Khan has featured later than third ed. Last referene I can remember is 5th ed for the wolfboyz mercenary fluff

Correct. But the first times this type of theme was mentioned was in the 2nd/rd edition days.

Tallhat it won't be till way later at the earliest. I'd have to dig out my 3rd edition rulebooks (I think there are 2-3 in a certain spot in the basement of my house. If you have fess to one of those its in there and also in the 3rd edition Warhammer Armies book. That book had the army lists for every army in the game. Along with the allies and mercenary contingents. Two awesome mercenary contingents were chaos and nippon. The hobs had their own section: which included hobhounds with handlers, bushwhackers, and even half-orcs if memory serves.

The cool thing about the chaos allies is this is where you could field the bazuka, tenderizer and whirwind.
Not sure. Since I already have at least two I have'nt been looking on vultureBay for them.

I actually have 25-30 of the old style hobgoblin warriors that I've been thinking of selling. I painted them eons ago but the paint could easily be stripped off.

Are you trying to sell them to me? Tongue Sounds like it Happy

More wondering aloud. If you want them I'd sell/trade them for the right deal/price.

If they're the hand weapon ones, I would be interested in those! pm me with the "right deal/price" please and we'll see what we can sort out.  If I don't have the models you want I'll just pay cash/cheque/paypal whatever is best!!

what about a hat on a helm? everybody happy! slap a mask on there too for good measure!

Love Hats

Love Helms

Love Masks

Hats are for heroes, ornamented to their liking,
Helms are for warriors, with great weapons for striking.
A Mask for a maniac, swinging his axe
Why not have all 3 and live life to the max!
