I thought that enemies who were under the template had to take an inciative test and if they failed they died..according to the rules I have here units under the template only take a s3 hit??

Henrik Eriksson

get the 7:th edition rules, you are looking at 6:th edition rules....
pit of shades is changed in 7th.

in 6th it was still good as i often used it to attack war machines.  a, it hit all of the crew most of the time, and b, even if it didnt kill them on a 4+ they couldnt shoot.

in 7th its good to kill low I troops: lizards, dwarves, orcs, humans, etc.  not so much against skaven, chaos, or elves.
UM... Pit of Shades just about the most effective way to kill a 2nd Generation Slanns.. which usually will gross you a good 800 Victory points.
the pit is now an I test or die Happy though it's bad when it's used on you (darn high elves Respect to the Hat! )
Or war machines. No inative, hence they just fall right in! Big Grin

Or your friends Ironbreakers containing both his lord and BS Happy

Please tell me you've pulled that off. I did something similar when Spirit of the Forge was first introduced. Seven Ironbreakers gone in an instant.
pit of shades is awesome...  large templates worth of all manner of models go down the hole...
and fear of the Pit will allow your Unseen lurker to get off more often...

Its the ultimate treeman ancient killer thats for sure!! Was at a tourney last month and a kid (first tourney) did it to a veteran that came 2nd and he had no idea where it came from! LOL! Happy
Ultimate Treeman killer? Black Hammer of Hashut, baby!

IF Pit of Shades. That reminds me of when 19 of my brave Dawi Zharr vanished from that spell. *weeps*

I guess my friend felt the same way about it when his Ironbreakers fell screaning into the plane of shadows Happy

That is true, but unless you are VERY lucky you wont even hit the Treemen ancient as they come with annoyance of netlings.

Cheers,

I found that but chances are if you hit it, you'll wound it. It's best used with a BC Lord. S7 helps.
Too bad the Pit is only a small template now, can't hit as many.  Great for eating pesky characters that hide.
