Well I thought we'd probablly better move this discussion out of the Gav interview thread. What are people's favorite RPGs, any golden memories of classics such as CoC or Runequest.
We always wrote our own adventures which was the time-consuming bit, infinately more fun then buying them though, and it meant that when we did things like blowing up up Cambridge in Mage: The Ascention, it stayed blown up!
WFRP was and is a great game, especially now there are Chaos Dwarfs in it.
Call of Cthulhu ftw, though.
Haven't played Cthulhu in years... I've never played WFRP, may give it a shot though. Can you feasibly have a Dawi'zhaar player character?

yes, it wouldn't be that hard. There are stats and descriptions of them in the bestiary amd I believe also in Tomes of Darkness.
Could be worth a try then... realistically, how many books do I need to buy for a decent game?

The main rule book and probably the bestiary.
If you're planning on having CD you may want the Tomes of Darkness book and perhaps also the Sorcery book (unless you're planning on making up your own CD magic for it).
Thanks for the advice, will consider it but thats a lot of books on a student budget
You could probably get by with just the main rulebook.
Ars Magica was pretty fun, although I turned into a powergamer everytime I played it and my character would subtley change into someone completely different as it progressed.
AD&D was good but had far too much chance. Furry Pirates was fun.
Ars Magica is certainly the hardest game to DM that I ever ran.
D&D(Forgotten Realms), The Masquerade, Star Wars D6, Via Prodensia and Ars Magica are my personal favorites I think though WFRP is quite nice too.

I know the name but I dont really know much else tbh.

And 40K stinks so noone wants to play that :/ (Bear in mind that I started as a 40K player)

As Ive said in another post at some point, 40K hasnt been worth playing since 2nd edition.

I've only ever played Inquisitor at 40K scale. We had a;ll the terrain and models, why bother with the large scale ones?
I did. But my Gaming group is usually about fluffy armies and not about power gaming. Might be the reason why I liked 2nd edition better.

My mates and I never played with that kind of beardiness.

Dont you have a regular gaming group Willmark?

oooh AD&D was really great

Loved that game. Havent played it in ages. I used to play a Dark Sun campaign. Best setting ever.

A D&D what a great
AD&D, Call of Cthulhu and WFRP are my top three picks.
