All of these rumours are unconfirmed, please check the Rumour Compilation At A Glance for more proven information.

Hopefully as 2009 draws closer we will see more rumours of an impending CD army book.

I thought it would be a good idea for us to have a thread where all these rumours are gathered together in one place.

Rumour #1 (from Xander):

I have it from a very reputable source that as we speak Gav Thorpe is working on the Chaos Dwarfs army book, and that we can expect an early 2009 release for Chaos Dwarfs.

Of course, such rumours have been floating around for quite some time, but I am inclined to believe my source based on prior experiences.

This is pretty exciting to me!This means anything you post right now could possibly influence the book itself, if only indirectly!Keep the support for Chaos Dwarfs as high as possible as we ramp up to this release!

Do you have any army book that you personally look forward too (entirely new, or re-make), and would you in that case want to write it yourself?

Gav: Im really looking forward to the day I can get back to the Dark Elves. It was my first project after I took over the helm of Warhammer in 2000, and I couldnt give it the attention it deserved. I think the book is okay at the moment, but I know that with more focus it could be more than okay, it could be great. As for new projects, I still think we will make Chaos Dwarfs really exciting. OK, theyre not really new, but theyve been gone for so long they would seem that way. That or the Fishmen, obviously, but theres strong competition from everyone in the department to be lead writer on that baby.

Just got back from the Baltimore GT where a presentation and Q&A was done on upcoming releases. Here is all that was said and asked

2 Daemon Codexs( 1 for each system 40K and Fantasy)

AN article will be written by Jervis Johnson in WD about how Fantasy Daemons will interact with Hordes of Chaos

Vampire Counts are well into play testing stage.
Unit called Corpse Coach
Focus on Sylvanians I believe
Some sort of rules for Bloodlines, but not in the sense everyone is thinking about

Dark Elves will have a special army rule similar to how High Elves have the go first rule. DE will not get the go first rule however

Chaos Dwarves are a very good possibility.

There may have been a few other things he mentioned for Fantasy, but I can't quite remember them right now

Chaos Dwarf rumors-

Just got back from the larger of the independent stores in my local area (GW will most likely never be building a store here) and had a interesting conversation.

This is now three different times, but each of the senior staff has been talking to their GW rep and each comes back with the same story, every time: Chaos Dwarfs in late 2009 (Fall).

As it is seems the lineup is as follows: Vampire Counts, Chaos (Summer), possibly Skaven, 2009 is tentative for Dark Elves, Brets, the Chaos Dwarfs.

So the rumors that others have heard are now starting to pop up elsewhere; IIRC Xander heard pretty much the same thing. Xander correct me if I'm wrong.

However, as I said to the guys "I'll believe it when I see it". So this goes back to my original stance, hopeful, but doubting it highly.

So chalk this one up to the "take it with a grain of salt" or "you can't believe everything you see/read on the internet, hear, etc...".Also I'd liek to point out Fall 2009 is a long way off, anything can happen.

Rumour #5 (from Leadbelcher)

Leadbelcher Wrote:
Last month at the2nd 'Ard Boys Tournie in Texas, a GW Rep came to the store from England. I was talking to him about CDs when he told me there would be at least 7 new army books befor CDs would even be reconsidered and they may not even redo the army! I was shocked. He did mention a Cathay book and stuff about the new VC and Deamon books. But he made it distinctly clear that CD would be very, very far off if even done again! I wanted to scream! I hope dearly this is not true!

Rumour #6 (from gIL^)

gIL^ Wrote:
this is to do with mail order's.

well on friday i went into my local games workshop, because i only have 15 blunderbusses i decided to order another 15. the guy said on the phone that they are out of stock, SHOCKED!!!! i was due to the news i heard here that they were not replemishing the bull centaur legs, but then the guy at gw said that they are moving things around and now all gamesworkshop products on mail order will be made on demand,
he said all models will take 14 days roughly to get your order but they are able to go far back in catalogs, further than before.
then of course i came out with the question will they be more chaos dwarfs in mail order than blunderbusses and bull centaurs, the guy on the phone said, "unless the molds are broken then i dont see why not, i know by fact that the command groups and metal axemen are not broken we might see these pop up somewhere". then he hinted at the 50 vault packages.

vault packages are sets of old oop miniture that cant be bought but are sold for a rather expensive price, 20 forest goblins for 50?! well i guess making them on demand kills the oop bit.

i hope this happens,

Happy I heard this rumor, of the 25th week mid way through, I can't remember the exact day now, busy and all.Any way, I made a call to the boz at the GW Baltimore 1-800 #.Whenever I do, I ask about the CD's and any news. That week I was told the Chaos Dwarfs will be updated / redone for sure. The year wasn't mentioned, but with all the bits found here, 2009 sounds reasonable. This was the most positive reply I have ever recieved therefore for myself at least, believe it will happen. But I will add a pinch of salt.It was good news for me at least and hope so for ya'll.Takes Hat off

This response from Jervis and the letter that I sent predates my becoming a mod. I sent it to him via snail mail in early March. Jervis was nice enough to respond, and he and I have had a few email exchanges since then.

The Staff has been discussing this for about a month now and it seemed appropriate to discuss this now in light of the numerous threads going around about this topic.

http://chaos-dwarfs.com/forum/showthread...2#pid40322

This letter doesn’t change much and doesn’t do much other reiterate GW’s stance about Chaos Dwarfs at the current time. It is important to read as to what is not being said. Chaos Dwarfs in the HoC list is going to be unlikely other then the purported reappearance of the Hellcannon. It seems that CDs are on their radar but a few years away, which could be argued: they always are..

So take it all as it is: GW is most likely not going to be releasing anything Chaos Dwarf anytime soon and any inclusion other then the Hellcannon is going to be surprising indeed.

That’s not to say it can’t happen, it just will be surprising.

Fishmen are gonna be real? I thought that was a joke thing.
It is, the last bit is a joke!

I will add a link to this thread in our 'Official' rumours thread, for that was the place set up for this sort of thing.

However, until its confirmed beyond all doubt we can keep collecting bits in the main CD discussion area.

That rumours thread will remain locked, so that only staff can access it.  As we get closer to the release I would like one thread thats clear and concise on what is official and what is not.  It will make it much clearer for people to follow.

It makes sense to only have one 'Official' rumours sticky, because as we get closer to 2009 more and more rumours will emerge, so it needs to be edited appropriately.

I did think to have one Rumours Discussion sticky (in addition to the locked one), but to be honest it may be months between people posting there (or in this thread) with new info, and by then the info may be well known (or out of date) so it's better for the staff just to edit that sticky I did. The one stop shop for 'reliable' rumours Wink
Wait wait wait. A Cathay book? GW have said again and again they won't be doing that book.
@Grim:  I will edit out the text in my OP about not replying in this thread then.
I have edited the title of this one to be general discussion of when they might be released.  Its a bit too early to be discussing rumours about the book itself Wink

Grimstonefire Wrote:

A lot of people on this forum seem to beg to differ Tongue
Or perhaps you're referring specifically to credible rumours, in which case lots of luck Wink

No, i mean having a rumours discussion specifically on the book itself to me suggests rumours on armylist content, fluff material, rules etc.  Which are too far away for anyone to have rumours on.

All the rumours we have so far will be on the release date of them as an army.

So in other words I'm being pedantic about the wording of the title Wink, but it might lead to less confusion in the long run (when this thread is 6 pages+ etc).

wallacer thats an great idea.So what do we need to post the rumours.Where it from , and who said it  .does it have to come from GW. could it come from sources like the walvault??
  just trying to help!!

Just reply to this thread with the rumour and source and i'll add it to the original post for quick reference.  Doesn't matter if it's from another forum (although we should probably reference them out of courtesy).

Wait, wait. Now they tell us that the metal Axemen moulds weren't broken! *sigh*

Actually, Citadel did produce one "fishman" in the late eighties, called a piscean warrior, for 40K (then Rogue Trader). It was obviously not taken to general production and is now a very collectable miniature:

Had a pm from one of the more reliable people on Warseer that suggested the design and FW teams had met to discuss how best to represent BC, but that the date for release might be later than 2009.  Nothing concrete though, and with all rumours to be taken with a bag of salt.

Bearing in mind that most long term projects take 18 months, unless we hear much about them in the next 6 months say, it will be 2010 at the soonest (and no I cannot say which books these are as I have been requested not to).

EDIT:
Based on the information I have, my guess for the rumoured release date is...  Quarter 3 2010 to Quarter 2 2011.  I chose this range because the other rumoured books immediately around it do not appear to be ones that are urgent.

first quote in this thread has been earthshakered to death. gav thorpe quit his job in GW.

I asked Gav about CD after he left, he said there are plenty of CD advocates left in design team.  I think he may have worked on it more than most, but wben he left any work he had done stayed.

As  noted on the warlord games thread(the one with plastic romans and celts)it seems some ex GW are behind them with warhammer ancient battles being so popular in the UK.
GW and Ex GW members involved are John Stallard,Paul Sawyer,Rick Priestly and Jervis Johnson . GW  may make the rules however it seems others will benefit from there popularity
If the rumours of Forgeworld doing more WFB stuff pan out i expect to see some really big albeit expensive warmachines (fingers crossed for at least fluff for CD making them)Respect to the Hat!
Can anyone comfirm the rumour about mail order being able to go further back? That would make me very, very happy...
I've removed my rumour, since it was exposed as a hoax. There is also someone who keep posting CD rumours on wikipedia, but they get removed in days.
