Its too expensive in my opinion. Maybe if it was only 1 rare choice.
In 3,000pts hell yes, in 2000 id go for the shaker.

However if you look at my army blog I do use a Hellcannon, simply it is a count as for my Earthshaker, the model is way too cool to not have in my army.

Thats what i do with my 2 hellcannons. Using them as earthshakers is the best thing they can be used for at the moment since you cant use SOC anymore
Actually, you can use SoC, just not in GW tournaments. Its got exactly the same conditions imposed as the CD list has in the UK
Only problem I have with the Hellcannon is that fluff wise its a heavy siege cannon. Armies don't take these sorts of siege cannons to regular battlefields, only to sieges.
Smaller cannons sure, being those along.
Its why in my list I'm writing I'm weakening the Hellcannon a bit.
You just have to sort the fluff for you're battles. It could represent a raid or sally to destroy seigeworks by the defending army. Panicking, thecommander orders his heavy artillery to redirect its fire on the attackers

That why I have Ogres for the "other" rare slot.
It'd make an interesting alternative to the Earthshaker at any rate. It says in the SoC book its 1 rare for Archaon's horde, two for HoC. What do you think it would be for CDs?

Yes but BCs also don't eat your own troops as well.
If you can use Basilisks in 40k then why not use Hell Cannons in Fantasy? The weapon ranges are all kind of weird in Warhammer anyway.
