I havent really thought about it but i would really like a 3000 point army which shouldnt be too hard with all my 3rd edition and the 60 plastic cd's im getting in the mail soon.
Its not as bad as harvestmouses 14000 points......with 2 juggernauts and all..........
i got 2000 but the trick is getting them all painted
Im planning 3K. I usually play 2K games, so it gives me some room to pick & choose.
Same as Blood Axe - generally play 2K so I have 3K painted to give me options (plus some DOW).
I try to have at least 3k for all my armies.
First get to 1000, then 2000, then 2250 (which seems to be what most people play around here). After that there is no set target, I add bits and pieces as I like.

How does that work, Juggers haven't had rules since 3rd ed have they?
I'd aim for 2,000 plus options then review, same as for all my armies
My basic army is laid out for 2k points, and I would hope to expand it to 2500 once the first 2k are completed. I don't think I will go a lot further than that - at 2500 points, I'll have all the interesting stuff in there, and any further addition would only be "more warriors" and "more hobgoblins".

About the same for me.
Still working on that Bronze medal!
I'll be happy with 2000. Once I get to this point I will look and see what the rumours say about a release.
I'm looking at a 4/5k pt army.
The main problem I see is I have all the bits there, they just need assembling and Greenstuffing - and I guess finally painting.
Who knows how long that will take...
For me it all depends on time clumps. I can pump out a unit in a week if I worked on it everyday. Like I have a half-made unit of Warriors just waiting to be finished. I just need to set aside some time and do them! And my Hobbos are nearly there too.
I am on the verge!! I just need to plan better!

Last year I started and finished a complete 2k Space Marine army within 3 months.
It meant finishing at least one unit per week, and worked fine.
Interesting thing I noticed about this though was that once the army was finished, it was kinda hard to bring up any motivation for painting additional units later. So it works best for a set army strength and deadline.
Liking the marines Ishkur!
I am creeping closer to 1000 and 2000pts not far behind havent picked up a brush for two weeks(baby an all).Once 2000pts of 4/5th ed are done i will paint 1000pts of 3rd ed for counts as dwarfs with 4/5th for tournie play in UK.

I have about 6000pts in all to paint so like the obsessive i am its sort of planned but i am allways flexible and will probably have to convert loads of hobbos to be really happy .Xanders et al have piqued my interest

Im used to collect anything I like from an army and only then try to make an army list as best as I can. With CD Its worse because I wasnt planning to play with them unyil I find the RH rules.
With the old ones, I had 2000 points.
Seconded
@ Ashur - you take pretty much the opposite approach to me. I come up with a list then collect to that. I give it a few tweaks as I go along but broadly its the same
I have 3000pts and I'm sticking at it. If I had anymore, I'd never use it.
I do deviate occasionally, sometimes I just can't help myself
