You need to give them more colour. Red and grey/metal colours isnt enough. Unless you are going for the 'Nothing can be made from wood' colour scheme i suggest adding in some brown to weapon handles and some gold for decorations etc. At the moment the beards are blending with the weapons a bit much and this gives it a bit of an unfinished look. Apart from that, these are some good conversions. The tusks are cool.
A beautiful start! Now slap on some unit markings and by the great Horns of Hashut, please put some sand or earth on the bases! These are not Rackham miniatures after all.
But anyway, the noses, the beards, the tusks... everything is there. A good attitude! Have a slave.

A most excellent start! Love the sculpting work on the tusks and beard! Well done.
Like Pyro said, some more colour and some basing will take these guys to the next level!
Can's wait to see more!
Looking good. A bit of bronze/gold or even a light silver would add a bit more depth. You can also use colour washes on the metallics to add some colour.
The conversions look great to me! They are very red, but whatever makes you happy is cool with me. As per Ishkur tho, they need finished bases imo.
Really nice work. How did you do the tusks they're awesome. If you like you could post a tutorial on this - loads of people have trouble getting that look, its why masks are so popular
I'd suggest lining the helmet's rims and shield rims (maybe the weapons too) with either chainmail or mithril silver. It'll break the slight monotomy and there is extra colour brought in with the lava bases. Excellent sulpting on the nose, tusk, moustache and beard front. Brilliant painting on the lava base and a very nice cohesive look to the unit. Many congratulations.
Ya, adds some colour punch! I also recommend painting the buttons on the coat, on the trimming.

Paint the chainmail in chainmail and paint the shoes brown. Apart from that they are looking good. The lava bases really help to give it some much needed colour.
Really nice work once again. The guide could just stay in this thread or if you wanted you could make this a blog and ask one of the mods to move the thread for you
i really like the banner, very chaotic.
I hadnt noticed during golden hat how much conversion work must have went into the repositioning on the body. the only thing i dont like the the original banner you have used, i have never ever ever liked those skulls hanging by their tuft of hair. i know its nothing to do with you but it would have been cool to chop them off and have something different hanging there instead.
COOL banner the scream (bound demons)works really well
YOU could gs similar faces on your CD warriors shields for a more chaosy feel

I like the changes you have made to the unit. Perhaps lighten the chainmail a little bit, that would help the beards to stand out. Or use brown as a base for the beard and black as the highlight/ink.
As for the standard bearer, the larger picture does wonders for it (especially as it's not with all of the other entries. Makes it a little easier to see). The lighting effect is brilliant as is the sculpting, especially onto the banner and the colours ahve been put together remarkably. Again, a thumbs up and congratulations on third!
I hadn't noticed the line at all

I was too busy looking at all of the good things about it

I guess that's one advantage for you to post the picture big. You can find what you're not happy with, improve it and have everyone else praising you

You're most welcome for the comments. They are, after all, rightly deserved.
The casts turned out quite useable IMO. Some of these will probably get a shield anyway so don't bother too much about a missing detail here and there. You might want to paint some more decoration / details onto the hat, though. They look a bit plain now.
i think the bonus with casting blank hats is that you can then decorate them all individually if you wish, or, leave them blank so the champions/heroes hats stand out more.
i use polyester resin and i hate it! i have just realised its the same stuff the floor tilers use to fill holes in at work, but probably of a different texture. the smell is quite strong with this type, so whereas its cheaper, you do need somewhere to do it in where you wont be poisoning yourself. to be honest the one im using isnt brittle, its actually very solid.
It's a matter of taste, I suppose. I actually quite like the idea of the dwarf warriors being almost covered from heat to toe by their shields.

Awesome work, my one suggestion would be to try and get a flatterfinish paint wise on the hats. As a rule of thumb, remember that two or three thin coats ALWAYS look better than one thick one
