Full Version: Dropping hobgobbos completely...?

Although I'm not a big CD player, I think the Hobbos are part of the army feel. The fluff states that the CDs rely on slave races to fill out ranks because of a population deficiency, which the hobbos perform very well, but I don't think they should be a core choice.

I think people's displeasure with hobbos is not what they represent but their stats/rules. I think people are divided on what they can contribute to the army overall.

However, with lots of CD players appearing to favour "counts as", either as rules or just the models, I wonder if its really a big deal. Ok, so you don't have a unit of greenskins, you have Kislevite Panda warriors (!) or something instead.. /shrug.

Personally, I'm a gobbo fan, so I'll always be rooting for them.
I say keep them!! they are the best things in the cd army  They are cheep mobs rules . grims say look at the dark elfs. ha ha   they are worst army in warhammer.they fight like sissy girls.
even the wood elves laugh at the dark elves.. lets see how gw helps them with new rules
Hobgoblins and greenskin units are a "tactical crutch" in the CD army because of the flaws in the army list: no elite units besides BC, nerfed special choice dwarven war machines a.k.a. Death Rockets (compared to the special choice war machines of our goody two shoe cousins), and limited number of magical weapons (evil runes would be an awesome idea).
OFF TO THE TEMPLE!!!!Mad

Although they should be changed a tad.

They should get spears. Happy
the thing for the animosity is a good idea, but I would do it that when no hobo unit is visible that the would go to the nearest greenskin unit and if no other greenskin unit is visible then they would squabble
Lots of votes for sacrifice.

Things are looking "Grim" for Herr Stonefire. Happy
I think we need to keep them, while Dark Elves don't need slaves that's because they don't have any problems with there population while Chaos Dwarfs do! They can't afford to send out all pure chaos dwarf armies all the time (maybe some of the time). And why get non replaceable chaos dwarfs killed in battle when you can just get some hobbos? Who would you rather send to death, a hobbo or a CD? Of course you need some chaos dwarfs to keep the army in line. But the race can't simply afford to send out thousands of chaos dwarfs when they potentially may get wiped out. And while dark elves are famous slavers, they could keep going (not as well but still survive) chaos dwarf society litrelally depends upon to survive, Daemons Stump anyone?
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! they're
great!!!!!!! god i sound like tony the tiger

Looks like I will have my work cut out to think of appropriate core alternatives for a CD pure list.

Dropping them completely would be a Major shift in the way we think about CD's/ HG's are part of their history, and really an essential part of gameplay, it would be a real shame to lose them!

yes it would be like when gw dropped cd
Keep them! Its what originally drew me to chaos dwarfs years and years ago, as they were unique in the warhammer world. I don't like the idea of any of the greenskins taking up special choices though...

They could use a definate facelift though. Eg, removing ordinary hg and just having SG and Wolf riders
keep them, have the rule you can take one unit for a minimum core choice per hobbo character.

that way an all hobbo army is possible.
yeah I know kinda old but was recently discussing these guys with people.

I definitly think hobos should stay they are mentioned in the fluff alot and fill out the CD ranks. imo they should be kinda combined with sneaky gits. Hobgoblins to me are always described as a smaller, sneakier type of goblin. So my suggestions were
3 points base (naked)
-S2 instead of S3
-poisoned attacks
-hobgoblins get a free reform like fast calvary.
-keep anomisity
-still don't count for core

than wolf riders give them the option for spears, larm and shields (but likewise they would go up a point).
well you should keep them with out them i can't have a elite unit in my goblin hored

*but wait why can't you just have them*

yes but i've made a story about how stickbrick (my goblin warboss) fought for his life for them

and it was worth it
As I'm yet to sort out that part of my army dropping them would make my life easier. But losing the cannon fodder and light cavalry does limit your options, I would like to see some heavy armoured spear carrying HG though.
GSF is on his way to be sacrificed, by my vote anyway.

I personally play as dark elves and have found that while they are a perfectly playable army, they would be greatly improved by the addition of a fodder unit, even if it could not be joined by any characters and had a low leadership, it would help. I have tried using bait tactics using warriors on their own but find that they are too vital to the army as a whole to lose...

I think the hobbos should stay, but maybe if there was a  limit on either unit size or number of units, that may work well.

Cheers.
CD's have so few choices already i would hate to loose more choices. We win melee fights by CR not kills, taking charges and holding them with warriors and flank killing them with da hobo's. To loose our "main" core choice Flanking unit would be really rough.

Dwarfs are snoobs, We have hobo's to do our work!
Imo they should stay in the list, remove them & the other slaves & we would all of a sudden just be evil dwarfs...

I think however that we could remove the other greenskins from the list & make more varied types of hobgoblins (as well as more forms of Chaos Dwarfs than just the generic entry) & thereby personalise our list a bit more.
Fluffwise, why do the hobgobbos join the legions?
'Cause there ain't many of the dwarfs, but there sure is a hell lot of hobgoblins!
If chaos dwarfs would do all their battles by themselves there sure would be a lot less dwarfs.
And the hobbos are willing to do their part so... why not?
I'ts a close one! But i think we all know which alternative was the superior?
Let's go Grimstonefire, the pit awaits thee!
