Mood music mainly, I listen to jeff waynes - War of the worlds, the score from gladiator or LotR, or some real classic oldies (painted black by the stones, sultans of swing by the straits, hip to be square by huey lewis and the news!! that sort of thing), so I don't have to think about listening to them!
When im painting i just put my Zune on shuffle and stick it into some speakers. There is about 1500 songs on it at the moment but sometimes ill just listen to one album or shuffle one artist. I mainly put on Black/Melodic Death or Power Metal when painting.
@Hammerhand: I prefer The Agnoy Scene version of Paint it Black to any other.
rammstien is good for painting ill agree with you here i would usually choose live aus berlin but i had mutter on last night. It has a very steampunk feel to it sometimes, and they are truly fantastic (saw them live ust after they released riese riese woo)
the open door by evanescence has a very warhammer vampire counts theme i think. I listened to that through the whole of reading the Genevieve anthology and thats all i can think about when i hear it now.
Its not normally a big deal what music is on though, and sometimes i like to paint in silence so i can relax, and just let the time go by without any hint to how long ive been sat at the painting table
silence is best kind of music :>
Usually when i work, i listen to talking books
The last one i had was The Da Vinci Code, and before that i had a good one called Contest by Matthew Rielly
Mental stimulation whilst you work, two birds one stone

Taraf de Haidouks for Kislev.
Alan Shavarsh Bardezbanian for CD.
I listen to jazz. Gordon Goodwin, Stan Kenton, Trane, Cannonball, Brecker Brothers, Basie, Ellington, everybody really... lol. I...love...jazz...
nerd

These days I listen to Chaos Dwarfs Radio, as a surrogate to talking with Xander while I paint.. (haha)
Hasnt anyone noticed the trend that seems to crop up in all these music threads. Hammerfall, Rammstein, Hammerfall, Hammerfall, Rammstein. Dont people ever try and look for different music? Im always buying new cd's and exploring new types of power metal, death metal, deathcore, black metal and all the melodic and symphonic stuff in between. Having said that, i better go buy a Hammerfall cd.
I beat you play the beatles backward too Pyro!!
You dont even want to know what i think of the beatles
I seem to the strange one who doesn't really like heavy metal that much. I tend to listen to electronica when I do stuff, particularyly Ming & Ping who's one of favourite bands ever.
I listen to trance, techno and world music mainly nowadays.Occasionally i have a blast from the past like Hawkwind

Im listening to a lot of Equilibrium while i paint but during painting marathons i will probably put on anything, just as long as i have something decent to listen to.
When I paint it a lot of soundtracks: Braveheart, Mster and Commander, Conan, Glory, Kingdom of Heaven, etc..
I don't mind a bit of heavy metal every now and again, I usually listen to heavier stuff at work, but when I'm painting it's all chilled out.
T-rex, Hendrix or podcasts (usually Russel Brand or CD Radio, of course)
I like so many different types of music but when painting it's mostly movie soundtracks. Lotr, Gladiator etc, etc...
Also Toto, Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush, Metallica, Andrea Bocelli and Clannad are nice to paint to!
