Okay, so as most of you know, I'm rather fond of all things chaotic. The inspiration for my chaos dwarfs originally was the Storm of Chaos campaign, and they were to acompany my Grand Horde of Chaos. At the time this stood at just under 15,000pts and it has grown even larger in the intervening time, pushing itself over the 20,000pt mark. So large in fact that it took up most of my living space (of which there is not a lot). So, after a while much of my beloved Horde ended up being carefully packed into boxes and then into the loft. At this time I took a break from the hobby, a break lifted by my discovery of CDO last year. I emerged to find that 7th edition had wrought terrible changes on my army. My carefully ranked up yet dynamic chaos warriors were now useless as they couldn't claim rank bonus. Many of my favorite combinations were no longer very useful and what was more my army was about to be cut in three!

Something had to be done, and to this end I have decided with the release of Warhammer Armies: Daemons to chart my - belated - progress converting the hordes/beasts/daemons into three functioning armies. Or rather seven. The original army split down into five seperate legal forces - 3,000pts each of Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurlge, Slaanesh and pure Undivided. These armies too will no longer function and thus I wil need to make the mortal forces fieldable as well. At the end of the project, my reward will be a huge game where my daemons, mortals, beasts and Dawi'zhaar will take to the field in an Epic 30,000pts-a-side game against the rest of my group. Not sure how we'll do this, but we'll do it somehow...

To kick us off, here are some pics of the army just after the release of the "Archaon's seige attackers" boxed set, they're the most recent pics of the army all together (or at least as it was then)

The whole army:

A LOT of chaos warriors

More Chaos stuff:

Ah nice, I remember the days fondly when I had a 10.000 points old classic Chaos army.

Quit the hobby for a while too back then too and sold it all! Some regrets but that also opened up the way to concentrate purely on Chaos  Dwarfs and competition pieces.
I work on the principle that as I always come back to stuff selling it will come back to haunt me. I have a very crowded attic
Truely Epic  i wonder  what the new changes will do to my mixed demon and mortal tzeentch army.Split it asunder so i have to buy more models hmmm  i cant decide whether thats good or badShock
Well they've now gone mixed, seperate, mixed, seperate with the last four editions of the army lists. It's got to be a con. My betting is a graand unifying list/book before the end of the edition
I think you don't have enough models for your chaos army... I kid, I kid...
The thread arises as if from the grave! Okay, these guys have to fit in between Bloodbowl, Chaos Dwarfs and the resurgance in my interest in 40k. (Not to mention uni and a full time job!). Despite this work has been done. The first necessary task was to expand my Chaos warrior units to have five models per rank. This will mean the building of several custom movement trays, not to mention tracking down a lot of 5th edition chaos warriors! Slaanesh's servants were first to recive this treatment and photos will be on their way in a day or so. Secondly, my BoC now need a lot more core troops, and to that end I picked up a job lot of old plastic beastmen with great weapons. These will serve as Bestigor in the seperate army.

The plan will go something like this: I need all the core troops and important units for my mortals done for when the new book comes out. Namely marrauders, warriors and knights. This means the beastmen and daemons will take a backseat for a while. When the new book is out I'll assess which special units merit inclusion and take up work on the beastmen and daemons again.

I will be paying far more attention to all my blogs in the next few weeks, so make sure you stay tuned
Okay, in the vein of finally updating my blogs on a regular basis here's some photos of my Slaaneshi warriors being refitted for the 7th edition:

The first unit, Silketh's warband is the furthest from completion. Several models need basing up and theres a few highlights missing. The second picure features Milaenor's Warband, which is done apart from one model near the back which still needs painting. The picture also contains my converted sorceress Lucira. The final unit, lead by an aspiring champion, is Felinus' warband - the only one to be fully finished. All three units are fully converted, with no model having the same head/helmet and weapons as any other in the unit. They were painstaking to paint as the bone trim took seven highlights to get right in the days before foundation paints.

The units were all in three ranks of four, but when seventh edition came out this had to change. Each one had been sliced and diced to make them look dramitic and there was no way I could rank them up wider. Luckily I managed to get a box of the old chaos warriors off Ebay to help sort out some of my units and boost them up to fifteen strong. Next time I'll post a Slaanesh group shot with the new Chaos Knights I'm converting for them, plus maybe some of my Tzeentch stuff if I get round to it.
Your pics are so small!  We want big ones, nice and close up! Wink
Sorry dude, as I said in my other blog, its Photobucket rather than me I'm afraid. Does anyone know how to make pictures larger on that site?
close Kera, actually its a girl with a whip - she's keeping the boys in line! I'm suprised nobody has noticed the special guest lurking in these shots but then again they are pretty small Wink
UPDATE: 18th September 2008
Okay, I've resized the photos so you should now be able to see what I'm talking about Happy
Okay, partly this post is to say that despite all the requests for resized photos none of you have commented since you got them Mad.

Secondly though - and on a happier note - the parts for my dragon ogres arrived today! Cheers! The prototype is in production at the moment and should be done for the time my poll ends in the main section[/u]
MASSIVE UPDATE - 9TH OCTOBER 2008

Okay, I know I promised miners, but as my work commitments have built up massively in the last few weeks my hobby time has been axed. With that in mind I wanted my army ready for the release day celebrations on 1st November. Anyway, here's what I've been up to. I managed to get a sprue of unpainted classic warriors to expand my Tzeentch warriors in the same way as my Slaaneshi warriors. I know Tzeentch has been nerfed in the new list, but these guys used to contribute 3 power dice to the army and were thus a mainstay led by chaos champions. So anyway here's some WIPs of the expanded units:

Tzeentch warriors

These two units were some of the first painted for the army, aand have won me many a battle. Some of them are going to be touched up a bit, and I may develop the highlights I usedbut in all I like the metalic blue and gold scheme.

These guys were done slightly later at the same time as the slaaneshi warriors, but were never actually fully completed as I rarely needed them for games. They were always pushed back for more crucial or 'shiney' stuff. The unit champion (far left of the unit) was my very first attempt at sculpting about 5 years ago. I'm sentimental about him but he's not up to the standards I set myself now. I'm re-doing him and the WIP can be seen in the centre of thre unit. I'm going to make this a theme - all my old favorite characters from the army will recieve 7th edition versions. Shock Help!

Incase you think all I ever do is warriors - here comes some shiney new stuff! Happy First up is the first of my unit of converted Slaaneshi knights. Much as I like the metal knights I already had three units and didn't want replica models flooding the army (they're a pet hate of mine). LOTS of pics of this guy but I'm pretty pleased with him:

Slaaneshi Knight

I decided to give the unit themselves lances - a great piece of forsight on my part as the new list wasn't even rumour at the time Happy Anyway next is art of my continuing experinment to find a use for those bloody spider riders. five of them will become furies, however I wanted to do something a bit different and thus produced an Insectigor. He still needs arms but as I'm not sure what he'll be yet I haven't got a clue what to give him!

SPIDER DAEMON!

These next few photos are to give you an idea of where I'm taking the army in 7th edidion. Obviously once I've got my old stuff up to date i'm not going to just drop my beloved Chaos. Here's some recent stuff:

Chosen of Khorne

I decided to combine the two units of warriors from Archaon's siege attackers to form one massive unit of Chosen of Khorne. The unit had two hand weapons, shields and were led by a full command with banner of rage and a lord of khorne (!). The whole thing was for mega games only (4,000pts wasn't an uncommon game size for my old group) and set me back over 1000pts!!! Obviously thats overkill but it was my centrepiece unit. Now I know some of you will lynch me for converting a special edition model. My attitude is that as I never sell models they're worth what I put into them and a unique model is better than a rare one.

Other stuff
These guys are in turn a prototype new Tzeentch warrior, an update of my Tzeentch lord (now sorcerer lord) Grenean, and a champion of Nurgle to lead a new unit with great weapons. All are WIP:

[drum roll]
last but not leat there's... dragon ogres!!!!

Compared to what - real life dragon ogres? Wink
Wow Shock Cool, all over cool my friend Cheers!
- That Spider-Demon is really a great conversion, however is he done - or will he get some arms or???

- Your Dragon Ogres on the other hand is not my cup of tea - but but (and I mean BUT) I like the idea of using the older type of cold ones as base body to them, but the ogre body is just too big (remember this is just my oppinion). Happy

- All in all, this is a great army - and I like it to the core Cheers!
cheers mate Cheers!
Thanks for the feedback guys Respect to the Hat!off

@ slev - I like the idea of claws, but I think the keeper of secrets ones might be big and are definitely too pricey as I'd have to buy the entire model.

@ Merchant - Thanks mate, spidey is not done yet! I just need to decide what role he's gonna fill, then I can give him the right kit/deadly limbs. As for the dragon ogres I'm in almost full agreement. They haven't worked out as I'd planned. However, the Ogre torso can work with them - it's simply a bad bit of fitting by me.

I was going to shelve the Dragon Ogre project but I went into GW Nottingham today and saw someone had fitted an ogre torso to one of the newest cold ones. It worked better because he'd fixed it almost straight on the front. My mistake was to try and fit the torso's so that they're rearing up like the old ones, but that doesn't suit the pose of the cold ones at all. I'm giving them a refit tonight and hope to have them up here tomorrow
Merchant - I'd love to see some pictures of those if you've got any going Cheers!

Well I now have my list calculated for the new Warriors of Chaos. A friendly staffer allowed me the book for a bit to work this out. I won't give you the full current list as it ways in at over 14,000pts for Mortals alone(!) However, I'm not satisfied with this, so I've written an expansion. Four seperate legal armies form the core: Slaanesh, Nurgle, Tzeentch and a combined Khorne and Undivided army. To this I'll be adding some special characters and their retinues to fill out the extra lord and special choices. In total it comes to 21,000pts whichmeans with 3,000pts each of Daemons, Beasts and Dawi'zhaar I'll be able to put 30,000pts of Chaos on the field. Obviously I won't give you the full list but to complete it I need:

Wulfrig
A new lord on Juggernaut
Valkyrie
a Chaos Batallion
Throg
30 Marauder horsemen
Festus leading 13 chosen of Nurgle
two exalted champions of Slaanesh
4 more dragon ogres
5 war shrines
2 daemon princes (1 slaanesh, 1 nurgle)
15 Forsaken
Palaquin
Lord on Dragon
Lord of Tzeentch on Daemonic steed
Vilitch leading 14 chosen
Sigvald + 14 Chosen
Kolek
Galrauch

So, anyway... bit of a long termer there
UPDATE - 29TH OCTOBER 2008 HERE COMES THE CAVALRY

This latest update has a decidedly equestrian(ish) feel, with chaos knights and mounted characters pictured. But don't worry, there's something for you footslogger fans as well.

First of all, my first unit of chaos knights, led by an Exalted champion on a daemonic steed. I've made a few subtle conversions to the unit, and a simple handswap on the hero:

I'm also working on a new unit to accompany my jugger riding lord. I went with a different colour scheme to make the two retinues stand out, so I've put a comparison pic alongside him:

Speaking of Juggers, I'm thinking of a purpose for this old one I had lying around. He'll probablly carry a herald in the daemonic section of the list

This guy was inspired by the awesome knights of Slaanesh in the chaos collectors guide. He leads the converted knight unit I previewed last time.

Lastly, the most badass chaos knight of them all. Archaon is here on Droghar and on foot. Take a peak:

Infantry then. When I first saw these bloodletters the first thing I thought was "Balrog." Unfortunately the 'de rigeur' painting technique at the time was gloss varnish over a black basecoat. Not so good. So they're getting a repaint, along with at least five new models joining them (god love ebay).

To finish off today's update I've got the start of an experiment. For a while now white undercoats have been making a comeback. having been a staunch supporter of Mr. C. Black for over a decade I decided to give it a go. This guy was an ebay bargain so I decided to try out a few different techniques on him.

I've touched up a few photos so we can see it better:
