If you only had 1000 to 1500 points in a CD army vs. any other army what unit would to take?
The earthshaker has te advantage of being useful against any army. Bull centaurs are harder to use agaisnt strong armies such as chaos..
Earthshaker , a beastly killing machine.
If it was less then 1000 I would take the bull centaurs. An earthshaker is a must in any Chaos Dwarf army greater then 1000 points.
Tacticaly an earthshaker, personaly some Bul centaurs
This isn't even a fair "fight" as it were. ES hands down winner. If your talking pre-nerfed BCs then you'd have a tougher decision.
The Bull Centaurs have the advantage of speed; the Earthshaker is a very expensive paperweight within a certain range.
for 1k planning to use bull centaurs (though I play them using the US GT FAQ).

for 1.5 probaly swap between the 2
I personally choose B/C as they add manouverability to the army, and as Ancient History said, in a 1-1.5k game i find that an earthshaker is rendered as an expensive paperweight after the first few turns. But i may be biased as i like a bit of movement in a battle
ive never played with or against CD yet, so im not sure, but im converting a unit of BC and an ES so that I can make my mind up as and when... i prefer the fluff of the BC, though at face value they look fairly fragile, especially when compared to cavalry of other armies.
though i concede that 2 attacks each basic is nothing to be sniffed at.

True, but properly played the ES dictates the flow of the flow of the game. Ideally by the time the ES is becoming a non factor in the battle your army should be well on its way to victory...

Well, by the time range is no longer a matter your Blunderbusses should be firing. Tongue
My point exactly. As well as hobbo and orcs with bows depending on the foe. Moreso then almost any other army Chaos Dwarfs have varying "layers" if you will of missile troops.

UPDATE
Got my first game in and I used my centaurs... Charged against Dyrads and lets say the results weren't pretty. My crappy die rolling didn't help.
Oh dear wilmark, not good. My first post on the tactics page in a while as I feel a bit of a relic in 7th edition. Although I voted for the Earthshaker on balance I have to say that no unit is an island. Each selection should depend on what else you are fielding and who your opponents are.

To say the manouvreing game works best with bull centaurs is short sighted. To work the manouvreing game you first need to dictate your opponent's movement. Earthshakers combining with march blockers like wolfriders or even a Tuarus in larger games will wreak havoc on your opponent's game plan, which is half the battle
I'd say Earthshaker. It's damage should claim a lot of its points back and the anti-movement/shooting effects should earn itself back more than enough. As for BCs, they are very much a glass cannon, even more so than Chaos Knights. Sousonou knows how little I like Chaos Knights...  One wound? At that points cost? Not worth it in my opinion...
