Time for another update. Another 690 points has been completed - 2 Rhinos, 15 Plague Marines and a Havok Squad with upgrades etc.
That still leaves the 15 Terminators (for which I have no motivation) and a Daemon Prince to sculpt, which probably won't happen for a while. On the plus side, I currently have 28 Marines in progress, including 7 Lascannons, 2 Missile Launchers, 5 Heavy Bolters, 5 Autocannons and 4 Meltaguns, so that'll add 895 points. I also have to make another Lascannon, 6 Missile Launchers and 42 Marines to complete the 7 Havok squads. I'm not really sure if they'll get finished by the end of the first week of August, but here's hoping.
Till next update.
Thanks Al-hashut, all the symbols I paint are freehand.
Cheers for the compliments. As for the Terminators - "lots" will be done before them, most likely including 2,000 points of Chaos Dwarfs... Soon I'll also have 40 robed Marines to prepare for a (gasp!) supposedly loyalist (blatantly renegade) force for the upcoming new Codex Space Marines, and one day I'll get round to the 40 Rogue Trader-era Marines I have, since I love the figures, though I'll need to procure some old Rhinos first...
At any rate, a verbal update for now. The 29 Marines in progress became 30 as I added a robed banner bearer, and everything has the gray, red and bases finished, leaving just 6 stages to go before completion. The banner bearer itself was finished and banner painted brown as another to tie in the colours more. Still have to paint a troops arrow on the shoulder and gothic number on the banners, but they're essentially done.
I've also made a second Daemon Prince, as I didn't feel like finishing the robes on the second big guy. Instead I made a regular sized Prince, who is essentially a smaller version of my first one, and I'm quite happy with how he looks thus far. Again the gray and red is done, base nearly so.
There's also 2 Rhino's nearing completion (just bone and metals to go) and a newly acquired Vindicator at the same stage, though the dozer blade is finished. In my army the Predator with Heavy Bolters usually shoots the autocannon once or twice a game, and the heavy bolters maybe once. I realized if I dropped a single marine with a melta gun, then I had the points to upgrade the Predator in to a nice happy Vindicator. In the test game it wiped out two squads of Plague Marines. Happy times.
Overall then there's 15 Terminators, 29 marines (24 of which are heavy weapons), 2 Rhinos, a Vindicator and a Daemon Prince on the painting log, which, luck permitting, should be finished on Monday aside from the Terminators. I hope. Oh I really hope.
That daemonprince of yours is really great looking!
Thanks Snyggejygge, I'm glad it's been well received. The Chaos Dwarf 'gap' should, with luck, result in me being sick of sculpting and wanting to paint simple Marines once more, heh. With the promise of a new 'Loyalist' army on the horizon with the upcoming Codex release, such an incentive is sorely needed.
Today didn't go quite as planned as the daemon Prince took me longer than expected to paint (2 and a half hours) so as such the 29 marines still need to be finished, which will happen tomorrow. On the plus side, I finished the Vindicator, 2 Rhinos, painted the hatch symbol on the previously blank Rhino and finished the Daemon Prince. That puts me at 5,858 points finished thus far, which is quite nifty.
Here's a shot of my tanks thus far - the Whirlwinds can be used as additional Rhinos. After this lot, there's only another sponson-less Predator and an uber-kitted out Rhino (Forge World goodness) as well as 3 Land Raiders to go to complete all my tanks, though these aren't likely to be painted for a good long while. The Forge World super Rhino will be made and painted after Games Day, since I'll be getting the parts for it then.
Here's the Prince and a scale picture with the first to show its true Mini-Me aesthetic.
Tomorrow evening should herald a picture of 29 finished Marines and, time permitting, some finished Terminators. Till next update then.
Cheers for the comments, as always. That top left Rhino is indeed for the Plague Marines. As for Daemonic Stature, that's gone in the new codex, as are all the Daemonic Gifts since 'Daemon Prince' is now a different HQ choice to a Chaos Lord. I made the smaller one as overall it was more appealing (and quicker) to make than the other large guy who needs robes sculpted.
As for an update, alas, today I only managed to finish 20 of the 28 Marines, but the ones I did finish were those with the highest points cost, so huzzah and what not. Cue 7 Lascannons, 5 Heavy Bolters, 4 Autocannons, 2 Missile Launchers and 2 regular guys for a nice 735 points, boosting the total to 6,593 overall, more than double the 3k I pledged to paint in a year on the Bolter and Chainsword forum, heh. Rather nifty for under 2 months of painting. On Thursday I'll (finally) complete the remaining 8 Marines and, with luck, 5 or so Terminators since they really need finishing...
Till next update then and, as always, comments appreciated.
Cheers guys. A newer codex lists each choice and the options available for it, so no need to keep flipping back to a wargear list, and no ambiguity as to what can be taken. As for the missing marine, that was merely a typo on my part, it was meant to be 29 instead of 30 the first time round, then 28 once the robed standard bearer was done. It's nifty of you to say they're high standard, but they really are quick tabletop quality. The odd character I both painting to a good standard puts the entire army to shame, heheh. Just as a minor point, the multitude of heavy weapons is correct, since with the 3 additional normal guys completed, combined with the 2 from last time, that allows 5 legal squads (20 heavy/special weapons) with only 3 heavy/special weapons left over. So all in all, I'm only a single regular guy and additional heavy weapon out from being perfectly correct, heh.
At any rate, according to plan I managed to finish the remaining 8 guys in the wip pile, as well as another 4 Terminators and a Terminator Lord, allowing me to field a happy unit of lightning claws, and boosting the amount done by 475 points to 7,068, and I
still have an Attack Bike to paint before my pledge is finished.
I used the flash for the above images since my secondary lighting lamp needs a new bulb, but the pics give a good idea of what the figures look like anyway. Though I've made a start on a unit of 10 bikes and Lord on bike, they'll probably only be undercoated (literally just) before I start work on the Chaos Dwarf army later today, so the marines will be put on hold for a while, most likely around a month.
Till next update again.
For the pledge I put forward my 3,000 poit Apocalypse force which had, amidst Chaos stuff, 2 Whirlwinds, a Land Speeder and 2 Attack Bikes. So far I've painted everything in the pledge (and far more) aside from a single Attack Bike, so even though I've done 4,000+ points extra, I've still not 'finished' per se.
As a verbal update on the Chaos Dwarf project, 76 Hobgoblins have been placed on bases and had arms attached, all mold lines cleaned etc etc. Only 10 or so have heads currently, and the bases still need small amounts of basing sand on them before they're undercoated and started. Since I'm at someone's wedding tomorrow, and will have a day off Sunday, expect a (probably verbal) update on Monday.
Heh, 3 units of 20 and 16 to crew 8 bolt throwers. As for what they're made of, they'll be made the same way as my Blood Bowl Hobgoblins, just without shoulder pads.
I'm a university student, and my next year doesn't start till October, so I currently have a lot of free time on my hands as I work weekends. That's why I've been burning through so much of my backlog of stuff to do really.
Well, it was either 2 Earthshakers, 2 Death Rockets and 4 Bolt Throwers, or a single Earthshakers and 8 Bolt Throwers with some fodder. I figured having 4 stonethrowers in 2,000 points would be excessively annoying, heh.
As for 8 Bolt Throwers being harsh, yes. If I see a Vargulf, Dragon or Terror-causing unit I want it to die before it gets near LD 5 Hobgoblins...
Because even I realize that 2 Earthshakers is pure cheese. Their whole quake deal is great, but feedback from pretty much everyone I've asked states that 2 'shakers in 2,000 points is going too far. Instead I took a unit of 10 armoured wolf riders, which'll be interesting to use. I've only ever played Vampire Counts before in the previous rules, and I never took Dire Wolves, so I've never used fast cavalry. New experiences and what not then.
The overall plan for the army is essentially a gunline with Chaos Dwarf units to hold and anchor enemies as Hobgoblins get flank charges. I may try Bull centaurs in time, should I get round to my planned conversions for them...
Stating how I plan to make any Bull Centaurs would ruin the surprise.
Verbal update -
39 Hobgoblins have their hoods and will be primed and hopefully mostly painted tomorrow.
8 Bolt Thrower bases are nearly done, and should be constructed tomorrow.
10 Wolf Riders are being assembled, and bases, wolves and rider legs should be done tomorrow.
38 Hobgoblins will be getting heads tomorrow.
Tomorrow there'll be pictures of everything in progress, regardless if it's finished or not, but those will all be in a new army blog thread, since it'll only be about Chaos dwarfs. Also, expect to see a Daemon Princess made for my girlfriend here later...
Right, update time. I didn't get as much done today as hoped, but meh, I did play a 2,000 point 40k game and a 1,500 point 40k game and had fun (wiping out my opponents for minimal losses each time, heh).
At any rate I've also made a Daemon Princess of Slaanesh for my girlfriend, as a trade for the Games Day Space Marine. I'll be painting it up when I get time, hopefully within the following month.
The Chaos Dwarf army now has its own thread in the army blogs section, so go check there for some Hobgoblin goodness.
Since the new Space Marine codex is coming I figured I'd get round to getting my loyalist army painted, so here's a test scheme for Illuminas, the bringers of light. It needs edge highlighting and softer highlights on the insets on the shoulder pads, as well as details, but I'm fairly happy for it as a general guideline. Aside from the scheme I have the warcry "Light the darkness within!" as well as the Chapter being Salamanders successors, but that's about it.
Till next update then.
Updates!
I've had a good read through the latest Space Marine codex, and since I'll be going for a Salamanders successor chapter, the Illuminas, I ended up spending 2 hours constructing my version of Vulkan Es'tan, a hard-as-nails marine with relic blade, heavy flamer gauntlet and 3+ invulnerable save robes:
I'm quite pleased with him so far - bronze/gold is finished, as is the white on his head. The green on the pads needs a few glazes and more highlighting to make the blending smoother, and the robes will be going green. Since purple goes with white, green and gold, that's going to be the colour of the halberd blade. Still a way to go, but a nice distraction from painting Warhammer Hobgoblins at any rate...
Penitent Spectres updates probably won't be around for awhile, but no doubt that single Attack Bike to do will be done by December. The poor Daemon Princess is still only primed, alas.
Till next update.
Since I'm starting a German force for Secrets of the Third Reich (a 'weird' WWII game) I figured I'd start a log of my progress here. So far I have several figures basecoated and a lot more due to arrive in a day or two. As such I got cracking and painted the first Wolf Runner conversion (Warhammer Empire Flagellant head, procreate hair) as a test scheme. Unfortunately the flash killed the colours a bit as they're slightly lighter in real life, but here he is anyway:
With luck the rest of the army will be quicker to paint as now I know which colours to use, as I'm a speed painter at heart.
As for other projects - no dice really. I've not got round to them, and now that I'm back at University most of them will be on the backburner for a while.
It's been over a week already, blimey. Time certainly flies when not much is getting painted. The glowing eyes effect is fairly easy - just paint the eyes green, highlight up to a fair amount of yellow and white in the mix. Then paint the armour rims around the eye dark green and add more yellow to taste, making the highlight finer each time.
I finally, finally got around to finishing another 10 Terminators on the 14th this month (though have only just taken pictures of them) after pretty much sitting down and grinding through the damn painting without motivation. Ah well, it's only speed painting. As such, another 420 points is completed -
That brings me up to around 7,488 points painted for my Chaos army. It's highly unlikely I'll paint the 10 Bikes and Lord on Bike, 3 Land Raiders, 5 Terminators, 2 Dreadnoughts, Nurgle Daemon Prince and stupid number of Marines remaining, simply as I have no motivation in any shape or form for painting this army anymore, which is why it's been so long since an update for them.
I've also made a small amount of progress on my Vulkan conversion. I haven't done much because I've gone through the Chaos Dwarfs, started Empire, and have Infinity factions and a Secrets of the Third Reich German army on my project list as well, so yet another Marine army hasn't been overly high on my priorities. At any rate here he is (without flash on the left, showing the actual armour bronze/gold colours, and with flash on the right, showing the actual cloak colours though shaming the highlighting...) -
You never know, I may end up painting more Marines before the year is out....
Well currently I just don't seem to be getting any enjoyment from painting my own figures. I've actually started a comission involving painting a friend's Dark Elf Blood Bowl team, and I'm enjoying that immensely thus far, so it just seems to be my stuff, go figure eh?
Indeed. One ray of hope is Dark Eldar. For some bizarre unfathomable reason I really, really want to make a 1,500 point army for them. After going through the (now very old) Dark Eldar Codex I found that they can actually be fairly brutal (excellent....) so I'll most likely be starting some of them soon. It's not going to be a lot, merely 60 Warriors, an 8 strong HQ and retinue, 4 Raiders, 2 Ravagers and a Talos.....
