Both punk and rap/hip hip are pretty much debased commerical forms of what they used be. I'm not sure which is worse: posturing fools in gold chains or whiney suburban nerds going all emo on me.
There - rant off my chest

This pretty much mirrors my sentiment towards rap. Except I wasn't alive at the time.
Speaking of emo, the evolution of the term from the mid-80's to now is something like watching a tragedy.
Some years back my brother turned me on to some underground hip-hop that is pretty sweet. It takes some sifting to find whats worth it, but what you find can be pretty good. Guys like Aesop Rock, El-P, and Sage Francis kick ass. My favorite hometown groups include Atmosphere, Brother Ali, and Eyedea and Abilities. I doubt anyone outside the states would have heard of these guys, but anyone curious can find some of their stuff on the internet.
@Godbob: If you like some of the Gorillaz stuff you should check out Del tha Funkee Homosapien. He did two songs with them, Clint Eastwood and Rock the House.
Also, Beastie Boys can be pretty funny, even if you arent singing along with drunk friends.
I can't quite comprehend how that works either.. Godbob, could you elaborate, perhaps with examples? They're pretty distinctly different genres.
Godbob, in the first post of this thread.
um.no i didn't ok i did but not that i hate it it's more i dislike it strongly it to me it's not music it's more pressing buttons on a machine that makes sound not like struming a gutar or hitting a drum and i think someone said this but it's so repented and i do like some rap not a very lot but some (mostly hip-hop) but alot of them are about drugs, gangs, guns and pimped-out cars there are some songs which are runened by rap
