would it be possible to change battle fleet gothic to be a fantasy version as it has no vertical movement.
for weapons i was thinking:

lances = bolt throwers/swivel guns
weapon batteries = cannons broad side thingy
nova cannon = mortar
shields = luck?
torpedoes = ????????!!!
other ordinance = variouse smaller boats

these ideas are for all armies so obviously their would be army specific chandes eg for chaos dwarfs nova cannon = earthshaker.
would this work? does anyone have any ideas for torpedoes?
demonic energy flying out of a cannon for chaos torpedos
good idea
so only put ships with torpedoes in a chaos alighned army?
high elves and lizardmen could have magick instead.
does any one have names and descriptions for man 'o' war ships i havnt been playing long enough to remember them?
grrr cant change my goofy avatar
Is this instead of getting Man O' War off ebay?
Shields could be magic wards and armour plating as well as luck, torpedoes could be magic or creatures or rockets or depth charges (dependent upon the fleet used). But, as TheVoice as suggested, why not just use Man O' War?

X1 seems me to he an awef lot of effort when the work has already been done. You simply need Man O' War and possibily the Sea of Blood supplement.

You can just take torpedoes out of the rules, since they follow the conventions of modern naval torpedoes, which obviously haven't been invented in the Warhammer World yet. Otherwise the rules would work pretty well - BFG is based on naval warfare of about the same sort of tech-level as the Warhammer World and the whole momentum system (whereby ships always have to move unless they pass a Ld test) is as good for representing the ocean as it is space.
The scales might need a bet of rework though; In BFG all measurements are done from the stem (as that's the size the ship takes up) and you then have 25cm minimum ranges.  If you were doing water ships you might have to make them alot bigger and change the measure point or you'll end up with really wierd distances
Though it could be done, I also think using Man O' War would be far simpler.
wont man 'o' war be prety expencive as its no longer printed?
also BFG has more support so im more likely to fing usefull stuff.
maybe half all the ranges and mesure from where the ship realy is?
can you get man 'o' war as a download somewhere?
ps my avatar has now changed into a slightly less goofy one yay!
argh double post but this is a bit later and i have put together a chaos dwarf fleet
Chaos Dwarf Fleet

Proxy words
Lance: death rocket, bolt thrower
Nova cannon: sea shaker
Weapons battery: cannons
Torpedoes: demonic fire, thunderfire rocket

Chaos dwarf command ships

Admirals
Ld8 50
Ld9 100

Flame belcher 345pts
These giant ships are the flagships of the chaos dwarf fleet. They are huge 24 gun ships with death rockets mounted on the front. However the reason all sailors fear these ships is that they can belch clouds of burning smoke and fumes from the front of the ship. They do this by sucking out the foul air from the demonic engines with slave driven bellows.

Goblin sucide mine
The chaos dwarfs make enslaved goblins sail huge mines towards enemy ships when they detonate often destroying the ship and allways killing the goblin.
The suicide mine moves 10cm towards the nearest enemy ship every ordinance phase. If it moves into contact with an enemy vessle it detonates and rolls eight dice to hit. Crew may shoot at the mine if it is hit it rolls 4 dice to hit. Apart from fighters it does not esfect ordinance. It moves like ordinance and is treated the same way for shooting and blast markers.

some dodgy columsn but it sort of makes sence
is this ok? coments? cririsism?
