After a amazingly longtime, where the idea was kicked around for almost a year: our first issue of the Word of Hashut is finally here!

Below you'll find the start of what is hopefully CDO's quarterly webzine that will be packed with great articles, great conversions, stories and the like. This is our first stab at this and we welcome any constructive criticism. Tell us how we can make it better for the community as a whole.

I would like to draw special attention to those that helped to made it happen: Abyss, Sojourn, Lord Archaon; Thommy H; Torn, Baggronor (awesome cover dude!), Xander, Cianty and the guys at Border Town Burning.

Be advised the file is nearly 12 MB, that is large for a PDF. We kept it at a high resolution so that if you wanted to print it out in full color it will look good for your printer.

Get inspired and take heed of my remarks in the editorial. Future issues are only going to be as good as the quality of the content, so make your submissions great ones. I'd love to have the problem of each issue worrying about what to put into because I have so many choices. So as of now we will start excepting articles for the next issue, send them to me and I'll take it from there. But before that take a break, read this one and enjoy.

In closing enjoy it, if there are things you want to see for the next issue (slated for September) please send me a link. If there are any mistakes (we're bound to have missed a few, let us know so we can update it).

Mac shouldn't matter. Are you using Firefox? For some reason Firefox is not working with this. However if you use, Safari, IE, Camino, Flock, Opera, etc it works just fine on the download. Which is weird because I use FF on my PCs, Macs or linux distros.

In case anyone asks, the reason its not in the site is because I can't upload attachments to the site, no matter the file type, no matter the platform or size of the file Angry which is truly bizarre

A few things,  I don't understand why the story sections have been broken up so much?  Makes it hard to follow.

Heh, you must never read magazines then Wink This happens because not all articles fit nice and neatly into sections due to varying length. Due to the content make up of this webzine, the articles shifted an INSANE amount of times and at some point we had to finalize it, but a point of consideration for next time.

I love the 'Eavy Hat (great name).

On the final page, there's stuff continued from page 3! It might be better to just put everything in order and just leave some white space here and there - legibility and ease of browsing should probably be the number one priority, rather than filling every gap.

White space is my favorite, but the concern was growing about the page count.. again. The first issue was supposed to be 8 pages...

Thommy H Wrote:
Oh, and I didn't know you were putting the Astragoth rules I did in there - thanks!

No problem the rules were cool enough to warrant it.

Quote:
I especially like Astragoth

I put him up in the Rules section ages ago, along with a few others. Maybe Willmark can be persuaded to put my versions of Zhatan and Gorduz in future issues?

Also: which browser are you using? There is a confirmed issue with iDisk and Firefox. All other browsers should work just fine.
was great cant wait for the next one

Most definitely we will always have a need for artwork going forward...

However I have to complain a little: The chaos column on page 11 is partly covering the Chaos armour rules.. the image should be behind the text obviously. And it's "Border Town Burning" not "Bordertown Burning" as under writers in the credits section, but, seriously, who cares...

Pyro-send me a link to an updated one and I can add it. Wanted it to be a surprise and all! Wink

Thanks for pointing it out, both have been fixed for the version that is out there now. If there is anything else please point it out and I will fix it ASAP. Thanks for the awesome section Cianty!

Great job. Spread the word but make sure its in OT sections of the various websites in question.

I know that as soon as I put something out there, I notice little mistakes I've made everywhere, so I won't bother pointing all the litle ones out unless you want to go back and redo it.

Sure as long as they don't involve re-writes.

Basically its onward to the next issue in terms of major changes.

Yep lesson were definitely learned on this first issue (that's the main thing to keep in mind). One thing is for sure we might need more staff for this too.
Welcome.

Cool where do you normally frequent online and where did you hear about the fanzine?

Saw an advert for this on the Under Empire and I was impressed. Not that I should expect anything less from you lot. I only wish every site had one. My only probelm was the amount of 'continued on page' such and such bits.

Dude where the hell have you been????

You must be a mind reader. I have been noting who volunteered in the old webzine thread... I'll be in contact regarding what in the not too distant future.
Its that time again, what time you ask?

Time to start sending submissions for Issue #2 of the The Word of Hashut

Comments have been noted, ideas taken for consideration. Emails have already gone out to many members of the forum for inclusion in the next issue.

Start to gather your materials and get them ready for submission. The next issue's deadline for submissions is August, 28th 2008. Publish Date is Saturday, September 28th.

Stick me in as a backup proof-reader for the Fall issue.  I can't promise I'll have the time until much nearer then.  I also have a couple of articles that I managed to dig up (put them in a place where I knew I'd be able to find them - then promptly forgot where that place was) so I'll send them to you soon.

Here are the errors so far (there weren't actually as many as I thought, so I gave up part way through):

p16 The Daemon’s Stump: "Itis reputted that a deamon of Khorne was imprisioned here."
should be "It is reputed that a daemon of Khorne was imprisoned here."  Someone was typing with their thumbs on that sentence!

p16 The Falls of Doom: "Chaos Darfs"

One that is not an error, but using a tinyurl (p14) is not a great idea since they might go out of business, and it is a bit scary to click on a link if you don't know exactly where it will take you from the address. You could shrink the font size of a url to get it to fit on the line, or embed the link in a word.

Thanks for the error spotting I'll fix them soon. Sojourn actually fixed everything, but I still goofed a few due to the way the first one was lain out in ID. Going forward we have a much better process for this: Everything will be proofed and corrected in outline form before I port it into InDesign.

We would love to have your stuff in Cornixt. When you find it pass it along!

We have a MAMMOTH line-up coming up for issue #2. This thing is going to be jam packed with great stuff.

Cornixt you are on. Welcome aboard the Webzine staff!

Errr, Mark please let me know if I promised to do anything for issue 2. 'Cause I'd better get on it then! Shy

To the best of my knowledge no, but I will double check.
