who needs metal models now, and I'm going to have to stock up on paint, stupid games workshop... some how i might have to live without you...

The raw materials and the finished products both have to be transported somehow.
Quoted for Truth.
Honestly, all more price raises mean to any old time gamer is that there's less incentive to buy direct from GW anymore.
When i worked for GW, their business model seemed inherently flawed but useful to someone like myself. They're targeting kids. Kids with disposable income, under driving age, who may or may not stick with the hobby for more than 6 months. Terrible for long-term planning, especially since they all but neglect the older gamers.
The upside to this is that these kids and their parents won't want the models sitting around once the kid has decided girls or cars are more important than toy soldiers. And it creates a HUGE aftermarket where savvy gamers can pick up badly painted metals/assembled plastics or even new kits for next to nothing. Ebay has been my best friend when it comes to tracking down models i want. Also Bartertown and even just putting up ads in local newspapers/craigslist/gaming stores. And with the job market/gas prices/cost of having fun the way they are, it's only driving me more to these resources when a price increase is announced.
</soapbox>
And I have enough to paint for at least the coming decade, if not two already (consider I'm playing/collecting for a very broad year now
).
lol @ Games Workshop
PS. I support Heresy and Hasslefree whenever possible, and I urge others to do the same
Ha! Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you. I'm sane... really
I AM!!

Plus metals and paints are more heavy then plastics. This weight adds to the shipping cost.

Alright, I'm backing this up. a) transportation costs increasing? of course. always have, always will. Does not however, validate a '25%' increase. On a plastic range, yes, it's more consistent based on what I said prior. Increase in transport costs would probably be included in the regular increases that have been experienced since the dawn of time.
b) they *shouldn't* be shipping by Fed Ex, UPS, etc, so it's not necessarily a "per weight" load, but more of a "full load" or LTL "less than truckload" (think pallets of product, not in an 18-wheeler, but a truck nonetheless). Also, I might add, they'd be effing INSANE to not have shipping done inhouse. if they haven't vertically integrated with their shipping, they SHOULD. geeeezuz. Because the cost to ship with a full truck, 18-wheel, out of house, would not be worthwhile. If they are, then bingo, we found the reason for the price increase.
meh, I still don't really care as *I* don't buy from GW...
They'd still have to buy petrol though, wouldn't they?
Seriously, that's all it is. Transport costs. No, it doesn't justify a 25% price increase but, as excuses go, it does make sense. Everything's going to go up in price as long as we're dependent on an ever-depleting resource.
Yes they would still have to, but it would limit the transportation cost increases. if all they have to pay for is the increasing gas prices, fine, however an outside shipping company capitalizes on the amount that they can raise prices due to gas, including extra margins for themselves. Also because, apparently aside from GW, most companies don't like going back to their customer every other month saying they need to increase prices. Most will pad the price increase enough to cover themselves for 1/2 a year to 1 year.
tobacco companies ![]()
My point exactly. GW doesn't seem to get that (gasp) they are not a necessity. My contention all along is that those actually buying from GW will face a decision at some point: gas and food or $50 plastic toy soldiers for little Johnny...
How many times do we have to say this before we realise we are their slaves? ![]()

That is a 25% increase ![]()
Undeadninjas: that's what a lot of people have being doing here. Although, not necessarily simplistic... (Ishkur is a primary example.)
I'm aware of the rising costs and I'm aware of how luxury and monopolistic businesses work, but it doesn't prevent the fact that I feel the prices are rising more than they should. Admittedly, I shall still buy the odd thing from Games Workshop every once in a while, but it does mean I'm going to buy less and more likely, buy it from other sources. This isn;t me saying "prices are going up, whinge whinge, won't buy anything, I have no love for GW anymore", I'm simply saying I'm disheartened by what they're doing as it makes it difficult for me to play a decent game, which they created. I feel that, although justified, it's a little higher than necessary (as well as too frequent) and is likely to provide problems for them in the longer term...
