Yup. Considering how expensive and rare the models are, I'll be updating my Dawi Zharr to have big hats. Now I was thinking about using those coloured pins that go into corkboards. Clip off the metal spike, add a little putty and they'd do a cracking job.

Thoughts?

Could work but I wolk flaten the head and stick it in if it dosen't hold glue it.
There have been some ppl at HoH I believe who did that. It is quite an easy way to have standard hats. You would need to increase the size with some GS though, otherwise these pins are just much too small for a well grown dwarf's head. ^^
I have a king's ransom of milliput in the house. That should be just dandy. Now with any luck, I should be able to get some pics of them.
Didn't HotStuff make a guide for big hats a while back?
Ive tryed a pin hat and it worked well. just green round the thin bit and add an arrow!
Hotstuff's guide was very handy. If I was any good with green stuff, I'd use his beard guide everytime.
I can't seem to find hotstuff's guide, is it on here or HoH? If someone would post a link I would be greatful. I used a big hat for one of my war machine crews, and that looks quite dandy. Check out Xander's sorcerers for pics
It's on HoH downloads, under conversions.
that was how I was thinking to do my hats Happy
The one thing I found is you'll need heavy duty clippers as the pin bits themselves are hard, stainless steel.
Good point, I should have mentioned that... It left a small dent when I tried using GW clippers
I used a saw for it. Worked fine.
cutting pliers are fine, its what i used.
Those pins are not very good. they look unrealistic... like pins rather than like hats. Other pins, the ones with a flat circle on top and a pin down from there are great, if combined with a piece of balsa wood and some greenstuff.

Do like this:

Rings around the top and bottom makes them even more detailed

Thanks

i used the bigger pins but cut them down to a cylinder first before sculpting the shape over them, i have about 7 or 8 different shapes in my 15 man regiment so far. looking for more ideas for the next lot might try kytes version.
