I would say steak and thick dark meat. Mostly red meats, not much vegetables. Typical King's buffet style, but in VERY hungry me style portions (I eat a lot). So, get a nice leg of beef or lamb, cook it to medium to well done, serve with lamb chops, ale and cider for drinking, if you don't want to much meat, asparagus would LOOK good, a little broccoli/spinach/kurli kae (however it's spelt. pronounced curly cow) and generally greent things. But, mostly meat, maybe a few roast potatoes or something... Caramlised peaches or similar for desert.

i would say have the meat almost burnt! also, serve some really dark wine of other beverage in those cheesy skull goblets you can get from the dollar store or the like.  Other than that, i would say maybe a hard bread or cracker, and meat. NO VEGES!! they dont grow to well in volcanic regions.
People are saying lots of meat because veg doesn't grow in the Dark Lands - so what do the animals eat?

Slaver_of_Zharr

each other of course! Happy
actually im serious, there are probably only predators in the dark lands, and the predators would all prey on each other
I am not a biologist, but short of having some exotic kind of animal that could photosynthesize as well as eat meat, I suspect that an all-predator ecosystem would be inherently unstable, since it would constitute a closed system with no energy input.

On topic, I think Sobek's idea sounds good for a theme (skull goblets would be cool as well). It certainly beats snakemeat, jellied scorpions, desert rat and brackish water, which short of imports is probably what the Chaos Dwarfs would have to consume. Tongue

Zharr Nagrund is right next to the Mountains of Mourn.  Where there are mountains there is water, and where there is water, there is vegetation.

The Slaver

ok, well, not to be gross or anything, but the Chaos Dwarfs are canabalistic..... i heard somewhere (probably urban legend but who knows!) that a tiny little company prduced tofu thats was flesh flavored. *bleh!* disgusting but certainly characterful!

PS: the Slaver does not condone the eating, or serving of any person. persons who blame the slaver for such action will be persicuted to the full extent of the law, and asked to seek proffesional help. They will also recieve a small amount of respect for having the pure lunacy and fortitude to do such a thing, and then promptly shipped off to the slammer

poisoning being an excepted form of political intregue in Zharr Naggrund

no, there is no intregue in Zharr Naggrund! it's one reason why i love the Dawi Zharr so much, they respect each other, there is no real Hierarchy, Zharr Naggrund has no King and the CD no absolut leader. they only reaspect older one more, because they are whiser and experienced than the other. that's all ^^

to topic: hehe, i allready thought about the food of CDs, too ^^. but it is not easy to find out something about a race what doesn't happen to do anything with war Unsure... how do a house of Skink look like? do Dark Elves marry? how does a baby orc look like?
maybe there is some water next to the mountains of mourn, but as told, the pollution might made it quite toxic. if there are plants or mushrooms, they are mutated. maybe the CDs brew beer from mushrooms.
i also thaught about animals of the plains of zharr (at HoH, but the threat was deleted... don't know, why Hobgoblin). it think they have some kind of cows or something... maybe a predator mixture of pig and cow... with six legs, yeah ^^

I know that they wouldn't eat REAL beef, but it's the closest substitute to the sorts of meat-types that they would eat. The reddest of all meats, really...

Perhaps Chaos Dwarfs wouldn't eat cow at all.

yes, no cows, cows are stupid (and Hashut is a BULL, no cow! Hashut!... hehe ^^) and too realistic for a fantasy ash desert... only humans have cows ^^. but, i meant that typ of animal, a huge one, with much meat on his tasty body and... with something to drink in it and usefull skin to make clothes, you know. but much more evil as a cow Hashut!

Is there any particular reason why Chaos Dwarfs wouldn't practice cannibalism?

The Slaver

@ wallacer: I think that they do! There was a short bit of fluff in i think WD 300, where a merchant talks about the chaos dwarfs and "skin-eating" or some sutibally disturbing adjective. I think it makes the chaos dawrfs much much more evil....

Or possibly just desperately hungry Cheers!

The cannibalism, I think, stems from the fluff about the chaos dwarfs being trapped underground with no food etc and they began going mad/cannibalistic etc, until they succumbed to Hashut's will, when he freed them.
Considering the rate at which their slaves get killed off I wouldn't have thought they would have much trouble on the sustenance front (so long as they don't object to eating slaves).

The Slaver

fantasy yak= rhinox. i think this makes sense, and as the CD built the Iron rhinox, They must know what the darn things look like!
What about Cold One meat? I have recently begun thinking about mounting my hobgoblin wolfriders on Cold Ones. Cold Ones seem to fit into a barren wasteland, they're tough after all. They seem to fit into the Darklands better than wolves in my opinion at any rate. I'll just say that these are faster, more intelligent, less ferocious, less armoured ones.
I didn't necessarily mean those, but it's the same species, just older models.
Well, I would use cold one models and say they are the same, just they have adapted differently, rather than being the horned ones. Which is what I'd menat all along.

I can't imagine the CD's eating gnoblars.  Anything that an ogre would pass on eating CAN'T taste that good.
