I slightly modified this from what I was thinking. Dropping Greatswords for the 2nd cannon, pistoliers, and the 2nd captain. The 2nd Cannon will help me deal with monsters or heavy cavalry. The pistoliers can help counter light cav and/or harass units as they come in (especially certain Elf units).
It will also feel like a real Empire army I think, and look quite cool on the table. Seeing those big blocks of spears.
Empire was my first army, so I've always ran them with the new editions that came out since I've been playing (7E and now 8E). Plus I'm really excited for them now, as I think they can do well. I need to sit down and look through the generic magic items and some of the lores of magic and see what I can do with my Chaos Dwarfs next.
