Full Version: Fate of Chaos Dwarfs in the UK - [UPDATE FROM JERVIS JOHNSON]

The UK tournament rules has a list of all the armies allowed.  CDs (and DoW) aren't on it (nor are any Storm of Chaos armies).

Doesn't stop either army from being legal, tournies often have extra and bizarre rules.
Yeah, I got my GT rules pack last week and there was no listing of CDs under the allowed armylists

Yes, but what's the point in having a 'legal' army if it can't be used in a GW tournament?
Obviously you can still play with those armies against your friends but not being able to go to the UK GT (the most prestigious tournament) is quite disheartening.

GW Stores; they only allow 'official' lists but usually allow all sorts of lists Tournaments disallow (i've even been able to use Harlequins pre 4th Eldar; and Genestealer Cults)

That may be, but it's still not a tournament and it's sometimes nice to play competitively.

@ draconis: I think you have to use the search engine to find the CD list.

We're not alolowed in the UK GT? Odd. Both DOW and Chaos Dwarfs were legal in a small tournie I was in a while back.

There are tournaments in which you can use the lustria lists; the storm of chaos and the spawning list for lizardmen.

They allowed CDs last year and in the Irish GT this year (back in march).

It gets me to thinking about a petition again.  If we use strength of numbers for our cause, we are more likely to be successful.  It's easy for us to be dismissed if they think it's just a few of us.

We don't want to annoy them though, remember the Sq*** players who pushed too hard and got their entire race devoured by the 'nids.

Should expand the petition to non-CD sites.
Woo hoo!
He deleted the post so now the thread makes no sense.  Might be a better idea to just add an edit pointing out the mistake, otherwise it confuses people.
What metro says is true for the past, although GW's most recent response is the exact opposite of what they have done with loads of army lists that they have published over the last few years.
In my opinion, asking for errata as long as it is done calmly as a reply to this e-mail from Jarvis is fine (since he obviously took the time to reply to us)  However pestering GW (or worse individual staff members) of 'do this for us, do that for us' is not.  It will just lead us into problems as we annoy them.  As has been stated by others there was really nothing new in Jarvis' reply except the fact that he personally replied to us.  This is certainly an encouraging fact, but lets not ruin it by pestering him.
Ask for answers to the Sneaky Git and BC issues (and other simmilar things, e.g. eratta), good; asking for a new/updated pdf, will just recieve another no and get people annoyed and less likely to listen to the things that really matter at the moment, e.g. the current rules issues; pestering them might also be damaging long term.  E-mailing pics of things might be seen as pestering also (and means the mail might be filtered); however e-mailing a link to such pics would be less so as it seems as more of an invitation then a shoving in front of the face.
Ony in america though; and with a big lable saying "US GT's only" + some of it's rulings are a little illogical
I assume their intent is "at the end of every combat phase"?
By some coincidence, this is what I was writing offline this morning.  Not quite finished but you get the idea:

The intention of this is to wrap all FAQs and errata into one place.  The US-GT rules do this pretty well and are already done so I thought it best to use that as a base and make some minor alterations.  If there is anything you would word differently, or any small changes you'd like to add (and I mean small changes, not rewriting the army list).

It would require the following alterations to the US-GT FAQ:

Remove the title:
"For US Grand Tournaments and Games Day Tournaments Only:"

Clarify poorly worded rules

Replace the first sentence for Sneaky Gits:
"When Sneaky Gitz are in combat, they may perform a Free Maneuver after every combat."
with the following lines
"The lap around rules have been removed, these new rules replace them.  Sneaky Gitz may perform a Free Manoeuver as part of Redress The Ranks, even if they lost the round of combat."

Replace the entire Bull Centaur section with:
Bull Centaurs use all weapons in the same way as infantry.  They count as cavalry for all other purposes and are mounted on 25mm x 50mm bases.  They are not considered mounted for armour save purposes.
Bull Centaurs are Unit Strength 2.

Ommissions

Add at the end of the first paragraph for Orcs and Goblins:
"Orc Arrer Boyz may be taken."

New Additions
Hobgoblins riding wolves have a unit size of 5+.

Things I am undecided on:
Should any greenskin units be allowed magic banners?
Change the price of musicians?
I am considering starting this list from scratch without the US-GT FAQ.

Things I have considered against:
Extra weapon options for Hobgoblins, such as spears.
Wolfriders with certain armour being not Fast Cavalry.

You should write children's books, Metro.

Simply look at the GW’s stance on the matter is a situation of their making.
- GW updated the CDs to a PDF list from the 4th/5th edition book at some point in the past.
- GW updated the PDF slightly with corrections and further comments/ rules clarifications at some point in the past.
- GW commented on CDs in WD #250 (with the updates) and included them in the RH, then later updated the PDF again.
- GW has not been consistent in their message regarding the use of CDs at tourneys in the UK or US, which one takes precedence? Both? All the while: they are the ones that created the rules.

The point is GW HAS updated the PDF list in the past, so what JJ is saying isn’t entirely true.

Remember the Pdf is merely a direct Scan In of the most recent edition of Ravaning Hordes (RH).  This book contained a 6th edition adaptation of every army list that have been converted from 4th/5th; we were just done with all the others.

The few updates that did happen (with one exception) were done with updates to other lists in the book and were incorporated in later print runs of RH.  The one exception was the Wd ruling on the Orcs and Goblins which was to bring the CD rules in line; note this was not incorporated into RH.  When RH eventually went out of print they made the pdf from the one army list remaining in the book (us) simply by turning the two pages of the most recent edition into a pdf.

There have been no changes to the pdf since
I have a copy of the most recent edition of RH and the CD list is identical to the current pdf.  They have never, and will never, update it.
