The original CDs have long, whiskery mustaches. How would I go about sculpting these?

I just found a method while experimenting- basically, I took a sausage of GS, put it on the model, and cut deep grooves in it going lengthwise. Then, because it flattened somewhat, I cut off the lower half (lengthwise), and then used my knife to curl it.
Sculpting a new face for every CD is going to be a pain, but it's gonna be awesome when I'm done.
