I write this with a certain amount of trepidation...
Is it possible to get a copy of "WD presents: Chaos Dwarfs" online?  I'm not sure what (if any) copyright issues there would be with this, but considering how long it has been out of print, would GW even care?

The reason I ask is because they go for a lot of money on eBay and all I really want to do is read the text, not actually collect a copy of it.

Anyway, if this is some sort of breach of forum policy let me know and i'll delete the thread.

If it's NOT a breach of forum policy, is there such a thing and if so does anyone have a link to it?
Since you are asking for it only if it is legal (do not correct me if I am wrong, it is safer for you Big Grin), it is not against forum policy. However, I believe it is illegal to put a copy up on the internet. Unfortunately, we'll just have to save up, eh?
I was rather hoping that since it has been out of print for so long the copyright might have expired on it.  Oh well...

Guess i'll just have to try eBay Sad
I highly recommend picking the book up.  Very informative.  I have read it several times over and am proud to say I own it. Happy
If you have stuff to trade you might then have some luck on Bartertown.org
I've conducted a few trades there with great success.
It's not technically legal, but in the past GW has not cared about this sort of thing as long as the artwork is not reproduced. I remember there was a project to scan all of Rogue Trader and have it available online, which eventually ran into trouble for reasons of artwork copyrights. They later went on to just upload the text but I seem to think the project fell apart after that.

Anyway, the point is that perhaps if someone here asked GW's legal department nicely, noting the out of print status of the book, the interest being generating in buying GW's miniatures for conversion work, and the fact that it's non-profit and strictly for informational purposes, they might actually get permission to add the text from that book to the Wiki. And of course, the text would have to come down the second GW said so (say, if they were to release a new army book).

I welcome someone to try.  I'd scan my book and remove pictures if we had approval.

That's not a bad idea.  I forgot about Bartertown.

Should we e-mail GW and ask for their permission to put just text up?

Zorgoth

BY HASHUT, I WILL TAKE UP THIS CHALLENGE!

Zorgoth

If they say yes I say we sacrifice the slaves and rejoyce!

Zorgoth

I have sent the email and am waitng for a reply. Cross yer tusks and brush yer beards extra fer good luck. Oh, and whip your slaves extra just in case.
Whipping slaves extra? I don't need telling twice! *Whips GW*
well i have the text in an easy to use format...
say the word and i can copy and paste the whole jeebus book...

"Hello,
Unfortunately, that would not be possible."

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! WE CAN'T PUT IT UP! DAMN THEM ALL!
LoL.  Unfortunately I expected as much.

I'm guessing its because of the other implications and potential misuses.  For instance, I believe they shut down a website recently because it used a lot of artwork without citing GW as the source.
I was kind of expecting that response, but was worth a try. Better than putting it up and having the entire site closed.

Zorgoth

I went to customer service. I guess I can try there and see what happens.

There is nothing implying I can email the legal section specifically. Maybe someone else should try.

They used to have some wd presents chaos dwarves on amazon, but it says unavilable and they dont know when or if they will have it.
Thanks to Hashut (and eBay) I have acquired a copy.
However, i'm sure there are plenty of people here who would like to get their forge-blackened hands on a copy of it.
Bartertown is an excellent suggestion.
