I think its up to you to decide if your chaos dwarfs embrace chaos. Mine sure as heck do and sport the stars, but they aren't big hat curly bearders either.
Although Hashut could be a Daemon Prince of some sort, I doubt that the Dawi Zharr see themselves as followers of Chaos. If anything it's like the Corsairs of Umbar from LOTR- working on side with Mordor, but not techincally worshipping Sauron. Like the CD and the Big Four.
I think it's cool to go either way with Chaos Dwarfs. The Assyrian Hashut-worshipping theme is very cool, but I'm into the Dwarfs-who-are-chaotic thing too. My army theme is more of the latter, with bull and star imagery, and I'm going for a religio-industrial feel - kind of like dwarfish Word Bearers. This is because a) I am a religious studies major so that's just how I roll (we need an irony emoticon) and b) my CD hero conversion looks like he has a chaosified crozius arcanum, and I am in love with him.
I think its fine to go either way. CD flufff has changed so much over the years, and besides its your game and your army. If some definative army book comes out saying Dawi'zharr have nothing to do with chaos then you can just point out that the eight pointed star is also the symbol of magic in the waarhammer world and that the chaos dwarfs are ruled by sorcerers. Indeed, ebracing magic is what sets them apart most from their Dawi cousins.
They don't point at any particular minor god. And khaine isn't Khorne.
IMHO the "chaos" in chaos dwarfs refer to the fact that they are dwarfs mutated by chaos, who embrace chaotic magic and who consort with daemons. I think chaos dwarfs would be proud of these differences that set them apart from (and in their opinion above) their dwarf cousins. For this reason I think they would be more than happy to use chaos iconography - if just to piss off the Dawi
That's a good idea and it's also the way in which some think the Bug Four came into exsistance. They were simply manifestations of mortal emotions and fears.
If you consider CDs to be evil because of slavery, then you are considering just about every ancient civilisation to be evil also. Good and evil are judged by the society they are in, and slavery was not only acceptable in ancient times but also highly regulated. For example, you could only beat your slave for very good reasons, mistreating slaves was as bad as mistreating non-slaves. Maybe in the future we will all be considered evil for eating meat or keeping birds in cages.
Since the game revolves around the Empire (or at least the Old World), whether slavery is okay/evil in Warhammer depends on what they think, and that is something we don't know.
Okay, this is going to have to be an "agree to disagree" thing. Any more discussion on the topic of slavery being good/evil in this thread and it will be locked.
Malaal was awesome but the idea it was slightly confusing. A Chaos God that represented hatred towards Chaos? *brain cuts out*
Alright, so what caused the big bang?
what caused the big bang was when tallhat lost his hat one day
Ah, so Tallhat is God - the Unbegotten Source of all creation.
I have to say i'm surprised, but I can't fault your logic.
well, in actuality the big bang was caused when mr t took mother nature from behind
You're a very odd man.
sigmar is love.
Sigmar was a hard living, hard fighting Barbarian who laid the smack down on anyone who refused to join his Empire.
Then he would have had a great career in the WWE but he had to go and ruin it byy becoming a deity...
I think Khorne might have done better though...
It's the old chicken and egg problem: Did the Gods create man or did man create the Gods?
(swap "man" for race of choice)
Chicken and egg is easy. Egg came first, laid by one species, mutated foetus spawned new species (chicken).
God and man. Hmmm. Spiritual (and probably contraversial).
Only other person I've heard use this explanation. At some point life evolved and you take it from there until the chicken results. Where did life come from? Nasty question from which to stay away...
Chaos Dwarves are Chaos because they are called Chaos Dwarves...
Seriously though, Hashut is supposedly a minor daemon, who ascended to godhood like Be'lakor did and Archaon tried to do.
Also, Chaos would exist with any sentient race. Anger, sloth, desire, hope, etc. Magic just made it multiply like Nurglish rabbits.
Chaos Dwarfs are called Chaos Dwarfs by the stupid western races. They call themselves Dawi'zhaar, meaning Dwarfs of the Place of Fire. No mention of Chaos at all. I think Nurgle is more the fear of death rather than sloth
You can't hint like that and not quote Grim!

Yes, it should probably be added to our "CD references in other books" area.

So why isn't it called "Dawi'Zharrslayer?"
Maybe because the name stinks big time??
- Tallhat
lol, very true. I'm just waiting for Dwarfslayer to come out...
Nah, its not a WIP or anything, I'd just really like to see one where Gotrex goes F*** this, I've had enough and rampages through a whole load of dwarfs just to give em a taste of their own medicine
Kinslayer is good, I like that.. What would be better is a Chaos Dwarf invasion of like, Karaz-a-Karak or some other Dwarf fortress. Then we could see some Chaos Dwarf big things in use, like Kollosi and the cannons that wouldn't be used against a crazy Slayer and his human pal.
Um, I think its somehow unlikely...
@kera: You seem to fall out of your chair a lot. I suggest you start using FOCL for Falls Off Chair Laughing. I want credit for it

You need Homer's six leged chair
At least their spam is... chaotic
