BUMPY:
Sorry no pictures just yet... but I have been a busy little Lammasu in my "man cave" painting away. right now Orc infantry are underway, Chaos Orges are primed and underway as well as 24 chaos dwarf warriors being painted as we speak. Didn't want anyone to think I wasn't working or anything.
Hopefully pictures to follow in the next couple of days, stay tuned....
UPDATE: well I finally bit the bullet and ordered bull centaur bodies (I'm converting the upper half). I ordered 11 off of the online store. So a unit of 10 will be coming forthwith. The 11th is BC is for my tenderizer.
I also ordered some wings for my Lammasu
That I only needed the bottom parts (left and right sides) rather the the whole model.
For those keeping score, a full model is $19.00 US each... $7.00 for the left side, $7.00 for the right side, and $5.00 for the torso...
Yep but I have been recently losing on vultureBay on anything Chaos Dwarf related. So when I started to look at it: Yeah, I could save about $50 US by trying to win off eBay. But this popped into my mind:
- How much time am I wasting tracking down auction after auction.
- How much time am I wasting trying to be the high bidder.
- The auctions are for complete bull centaurs... I don't need the torsos and don't want to waste the time of reselling them.
In the end it became readily apparent. I'm reaching a point where I'm fairly well off (not rich mind you

but time is becoming an issue. I now have less and less of it. So in the grand scheme of things for this instance, spending and extra $50-60 made sense... $450 for a juggernaut... not so much!

Updates:
Work on my first unit of Chaos Dwarfs continues. The unit accompanying my general on the battlefield now has a name: "The Blood Axes of Pain".
Also highlighted is a front rank model I'm using as my test model.
Next Up are my Chaos Ogres which are going together surprisingly fast. I would imagine I might finish them before the first chaos dwarf unit. If you note, there are wooden sticks on the back of each 40x40mm Ogre base, going to use the idea from White Dwarf #315 (US) page 95... Multi Wound Trackers. Always tough to keep track of so one less thing to remember in the heat of battle while my evil stunties are pounding the opposition.
Lastly I've got my first bolt thrower complete. Still needs crew though. I've been thinking of ideas for them but I'm not 100% there yet. Bolt bolt throwers (I have parts for another) are going to have mini diorama bases similar to by completed Hellcannon.

No pics or updates on the orcs as they are on the "back burner" at the moment

Chaos Chariot wheels aren't they? I may filch that at some point
Yep. My bolt throwers will look a bit more like they were built by a number of chaos dwarfs rather then the hobbos trying to build them.
Really great stuff Willmark. Really cool....I mean uncool!!
Thanks my dwarfs are definately uber uncool!
Thanks for noticing the title.
I actually tried that to begin with. Kinda of how Xander does it in his movies which are excellent, but do not work the best in this case. Through trial and error I discovered that clipping off the whole head makes the most sense. then cutting out a small depression where the head will rest in: then use GS to fill gaps.
For all intents and purposes the next unit is done.... the Chaos Ogres! Have a bit of touch up to the multi wound poles and the sides of the bases, plus I need to add a light yellow wash to the bones and skulls here and there.
Funny right now the army consists of following finished pieces:
My general and his throne bearers
1x4 Chaos Ogres
1 Hellcannon- (counts as Earthshaker)
But next on the hit list is the first CD warrior unit (24). Actually, I've been working on them all along, I would expect that either they or the orcs will be the next unit completed. Plus I now have my new wings for my Lammasu. An idea is formulating for the rider so I might be tempted to work on that soon.

Nce job Wilmark! One question - are you gonna use that movement tray for the ogres for games? strikes me it could make measuring distances quite awkward
Yep I always do. All you do is measure from the bases of the models, rather then the base of the tray. No problem really....
Yes but I had a problem along these lines once - it was to do with positioning models at the base of a hill so they could rank up and we could see who was in base to base in CC. Two turns later my opponent declared a charge into my flank and measured to the position at the base of the hill. In this case it was a diliberate cheat rather than an honest mistake, but it could happen just as easily if your opponent lines up a rear charge and measures to the back of the bases, forgetting to knock off the inch or so for the front of the base. Believe me these things can cost you games
Good point and points well taken... However wouldn't you say that if your opponent is getting off a rear charge you've got bigger problems to worry about?!
Countered flank charge? It can happen in drawn out combats. Chaos on Chaos clashes are famous for this type of thing, but I take your point.
Realistically for games against friends we don't have such issues as we all love cool bases and movement trays. Nor are we at each others throats in regards to 1/4" of an inch.
Barring that against losers in the gaming stores I have a number of plastic ones to use should the need arise.
Don't worry I understood what you meant my friend.
NIce work on the warriors. They look a bit pink but i think thats just a bad pic. Hopefully. Lamassu looks awesome so far. Its a shame the taurus rider doenst have the back banner.
Yeah I've been tinkering with the flash of the camera. Its consistently adding a pink shade... The actually color is a warm red with a bit of orange for highlights.
As far as the back banner goes no worries. I will be building my own.
I have to get those wings to put on my lammasu Willmark what wings did you use?
they beat the crap out of the metal ones.
thanks Kera
Yes the are the plastic dragon wings, much better then the small metal ones. I will be using them for my Taurus as well.
Looking good. It's all fitting together rather well, IMO. If you're not going to have a hatted general, then whom shall have the hat? Or what'll it be used for? A giant blunderbuss mayhaps? A gift to a hat-friend? A leadbelcher blundercannon? A plinth? I'm intrigued as to all of the possibilities now...
Thanks HB. I'm pleased with the progress so far (albeit a bit more slow then I would like). The army is looking very unified so far. I'm just happy I have another unit complete. As far as the hat goes it will not be appearing in my army. So it will most likely be up for grabs once I'm done converting the Taurus.
MINOR UPDATE
After I took last nights pictures I got the bases glued with sand. So its paint, dry brush, and add static grass and it will be truly complete.
Just narrowly missed 1,000 points!
I added it up and it comes to 940! Oh well next update might be the orcs which I'll need the points for because I do not currently have the O&G army book: 20 Big 'uns FC with additional hand weapon. If I finish them it will push me over my first 1,000.
Also on my painting desk being assembled and being painted are around 1,425 points give or take.
Lastly I do not have any hobgoblins from the 4th/5th edition days in my collection so I have a question of scale. Safe to assume that those ones are the same height as a multi-part, plastic, human model?
Clam-
Thanks Dude! But next to your works of art, mine look feeble in comparison.
AGPO-
Thats understandable, in the beginning everyone just needs to get units done to even have something to play with.
There is a very good chance my next units after the Big 'Uns will be just that: Lammasu, Taurus and Bull Centaurs. Lammasu is the leading candidate to be finished next as I have all the parts to work on the Lammasu itself while I order parts for the rider and parts needed for other units.
UPDATES
In preparation for new units coming up, (still looks like Taurus, Lammasu and BCs will be next) I decided to finish off three more pieces for my army. If you go back through the blog (around page 3 I believe), you'll see the last time I talked about these two units they were in considerably less states of completeness then they are now.
First up is the Big-Uns. They are about 50% done at this stage. Tonight I did the "gross" painting. You know adding large swathes of the major colors so as a result I didn't get to do much detail work. This is OK as it sets me up nicely for the next several nights on this unit. The first rank is mostly done (3 out of 5 are for the most part finished). The majority still need washes and then detail.
You'll also notice that the one orc in back is still a "gray and green". As we all know the orc warrior regiment box comes with only enough parts for 19. So I created this guy from a chaos warrior torso and legs. had to cut away a bit, but in the end it will work out methinks.
I'm excited about this unit because along with my 1st CD sorcerer it will push my army above 1,000 points! ya!
Next up is the first bolt thrower. I just finished constructing everything tonight. in fact if you look closely you can still see some glue drying. I'm anticipating priming this next painting session. I have the second bolt thrower started as well but not enough to photograph. It has the exact same size base but the front wall/defense will be different than this one.
Th first to pics are of it under construction, the last ones of it are finished.
Sorry its not the most exciting of updates, but I'm making pretty good headway through these two units so I wanted to update everyone on the progress.
Btw - The wheels are from the Chaos Chariot - right?
Yep. If you need them get them now as they are on the "GW Online Store Endangered Species list" (aka the Nov 5th changes).
Now this bolt thrower looks great. In fact probably
too great for such a cheap unit!

Any plans for the finish of the shield wall, i.e. leather / metal / stone?
Heh! I always thought constructing a bolt thrower would be beyond the technical prowess of the hobbos so in my army. I want it to look like they were of excellent construction. i.e. the Chaos Dwarfs made it! I think I'm going to paint the shield wall bronze with a wash of green to make it look weathered.
UPDATE!
Sorry no Pics... Ha! I'll have to build some suspense! Might be some pics of certain units coming up thou...
Tonight I got a bunch done on a number of things. Mainly tonight was a "construction night".
1) I did a massive amount of beard removal and green stuffing to the Lammasu. I finished the Sorcerer Lord for said Lammasu as well. Currently the GS is drying. Might not photograph him until complete to build it up! I am taking in progress shots thou. Base is drying from glue. More to do on it but mostly ready at this stage.
2) I have successful hacked off my CD Lord Taurus rider. I have him filled down and his weapon removed. His face and curly beard is hacked out as well. Helm has successful dry fitted as well as both weapons that he will be wielding.Big hat is now removed yah! Might be up for grabs for someone...
Still have to get a set of plastic dragon wings for him thou...
3) My 2nd CD unit has all their helms attached now; might do some quick pics tomorrow to show their WIP state.
4) Orcs are coming along I now have the majority washed and dry-brushed. Pics perhaps tomorrow of these as well. Most likey unit to be finished next.
5) First hobbo Bolt thrower is done now. Time to prime and paint it. Plus I just one a second hobbo for the crew of second bolt thrower, beating out SWSNBN to do it!
And lastly the never ending BC saga continues. I now have 12 left sides for the BCs. Now it will be time to order the 12 right sides so I can start on them sometime in the new year (January maybe).
