Work in progress update at that.
First real quick I'm working on a few test models for my black orcs who are all primed now, gonna try to make their armor look rusty. The Ogre Kingdoms articles (circa WD #303) should come in handy here.
In between stuff drying and green stuffing my unit of warriors is coming along nicley should be finished at the same time as the count as army standard.
Speaking of count as army standard. Since I came back from vacation I've been wanting to work on some of the ideas I thought up for how to carry my count as army standard around. A few people came up with the excellent idea of making him removable from his perch so I can use him as a sorcerer. Again great idea... only one problem, I had already glued his 20mm base to the 25mm base below. So I carefully cut both away as they had a crap load of super glue on both and glued him to a new 20mm base. Then I re-glued a new 25mm base to the base that the bearers will be carrying. It was a pain but work it for such a cool idea.
Thanks to Bandnerd I was able to buy 4 classic throne bearers for the old dwarf throne of power. I had contemplated using the new ones but discarded the idea. The bearers are going to be sculpted as apprentice sorcerers lugging around their lord who is turning almost fully to stone. The new bearers for Thorgrim look a bit to "longbeard-ish" to fit this idea.
Bear in mind with these pics the bearers that are gold still need to be stripped and scraped of paint. The whole thing was pretty wobbly and uneven while I was taking pics as I did not have any blue-tac on hand. I had to prop them back up several times during their photo op... Unfortunately it looks like they will have to go to the side of the unit rather then the middle as AGPO suggested as the base being 20mm will be off to one side or the other. As it is the bearers on one side will have half their right feet of the base. Additionally I need more paint stripper, and a 40mm base as well
The sorcerer is now removable. His base will now lift off of the 25 mm base. I might magnetize him, but I think I have another idea that should work. The sorcerer is really light (all plastic and Green Stuff) so he doesn't need to be that secure on the carrier.

Great idea but it won't work unfortunately. Thats what I originally sketched out (around page 9 I think). The problem is the 25mm base is not "long" enough to have them do it without bumping into each other. The other issue is that if I did it that way I couldn't fit them on a base that is 40mm wide which is what has to happen in order to fit in the unit.
The bearers are set in terms of the idea. The will most likely have open face helms with their tusk protruding from their beards along. They will have long sleeveless green stuff robes similar to the sorcerer lord aloft.
The guardians I'm not sure yet. I might sculpt heavy armor for them.
He is going to be pretty much stone. A bit of his face and helm might still be "normal".
Thanks Obsidian!
I looked at this again tonight and then went back to my concept sketches. I picked up some 40mm bases and started positioning the bearers on it. I think I may have found a way to get all four of the bearers on the 40mm base as I sketched and Dino suggested. The key will be the alignment of the poles. I'm going to not use the throne of power base and scratch build poles for the bearers and tie it in to the 25mm base. As it turns out being "too long" as I mentioned above is entirely the problem and easily solved by removing it from the equation. From there its just plunk the sorceror lord onto the top and presto, count as army standard.
While waiting for some parts to dry I my Count as Standard bearer I glanced at my table to a bunch of guys who have been sitting there for a quite a while. So I had some green stuff out already and I started filling gaps and adding on weaponry.
And the best thing is they are Core which is where I'm trying to focus my efforts on my army...
These guys are still in their earliest stages so keep the following in mind:
- The wolves are from a old goblin wolfrider unit from years back, these will not be their final colors...
- only a few of the front row guys are near done.
- A bunch more sculpting has to be done to them.
They are in a very similar state to where I had my BCs in some of their WIP states. I'm filling in gaps and not too worried about how it looks as more green stuff will be going over the top.
So here they are:

Willmark's Army Builder Tip #4
What you always do, might not always be the right answer in every case.
I did something I normally never do on these guys. I glued their shields on (for some of them) before even priming them. I usually avoid doing this. in this case it made sense as the dwarf shields are going to cover up almost all of the left arm holding it. Thus only a small amount of GS will be needed in that area. Food for thought.
You're doing an excellent job. The champion and his right hand man (who look the most complete) look awesome with the flowing cloak over the legs. Can't wait for the rest to match.

Great minds think alike huh?
Feel free. I've been slowing working on these guys for a few months so to say they are coming along slowly would be an understatement.
:
Then you'll really like what I did the first time around... ![]()

Nope, it never gets tiring
I might actually finish these guys before the chaos dwarf warrior unit.
The idea with these guys is that the chaos dwarf gave the hobgoblins weapons and banners from defeated dwarf foes. So they are going to be painted that way, i.e to look like dwarven weaponry.
The reasons are that to me is that chaos dwarfs use every resource included that of those which they defeat.
Hard to explain but when their clothing is green stuffed on they should look fine.
Also I made them a bit taller on purpose. People generally convert gobbos but don't make them larger.
Just when you thought it was safe. Updates. while no units have been completed I am nearing completion on two important units: My count as army standard and my wolf riders.
The Count as Army Standard bearers are now almost covered in terms of green stuff. bit more of detail work to go. Sorry about the flash washing them out. I didn't have time to re-shoot these pics.
The poles for the sorcerer to to be held aloft have been finally straightened out. I will now need to build his perch. I think I know how this will work.
Next up is the hobbo wolf riders which seems to be getting a good response on the blog. I now have them nearly done in terms of green stuffing them. I still have more details to add but they are getting closer to a final state. I would imagine they can be primed soon.
Next, work is still going on for the anvil guards. They have some work done to them but I still have to figure out a few more bits on them before proceeding.
Lastly I have not forgotten work on the chaos dwarf warrior unit that will be accompanying the sorcerer. I hope to finish them up as soon as the count as army standard is complete.

Dino, furrie and Asheria- Thanks guys, I'll try not to let you guys down. I might actually try to prime these guys tonight. So may be this weekend they will see some paint.
Steven- Thank you for the kind words, although I'd would be disingenuous of me to not point out the awesome works of Clam, Pulper and Ishkur which makes my stuff look Meh in comparison. I hope to me 1/4 as good as them!
Canix- Yes sir Canix Sir- These guys have been coming along slowly as I have had to really feel my way in constructing them. Even with a good sketch on them the reality was far different...
AGPO- Most definitely, question is when; usually when I take pics its at night on the basement (the kids are finally asleep and all) so I'll try I just cant promise it will be soon.
Wolfriders are now done in terms of green stuffing. I will be priming these guys shortly and may start painting them on Sunday. I expect these guys will go quickly.
No new updates on the Count as Army standard, hopefully I ‘ll finish up the construction soon. The anvil guard got a bit more done to them and I only have to figure out how to do the helmet/faces as my first idea did not work.
As noted in Ishkur’s casting thread I’m going to have to take the plunge soon for casting some hobbos as I have a game coming up next month with no “Speed Bump” hobbo units; against Wood Elves no less. So I have about 60 of them under construction. They are going be in the Xander style (ala his vids) but I’m not casting the whole model, just the legs and then I’m green stuffing them. 1) I need the practice and 2) I want to use up my BFSP figures. So the part I’m going to duplicate is the goblin wolfrider sprue B: just the part with the rider legs. I should be picking up the supplies I’ll need today.

So that leaves the poor chaos dwarf unit getting bumped again, although I did get a chance to start on their paint scheme.
On top of all of this I picked up my first player for the start of my Blood Bowl Team the a Treeman, for my Halfling Team ”The Fighting Anklebiters of the Mootland”
Plus I have to consider my GHVI entry now as well, who thought that idea up?
In the mean time I also got a chance to finish a test model for my Black Orcs. The idea for them is that they will have rusty armor and weapons. I think it came out pretty good.

Until the next update.
- the hobbo wolf riders are primed.
- the count as army standard is nearly done in the construction phase; might finish the anvil guard tonight.
- reinforcements have arrived in the form of 14 Orc arrer boyz who are now assembled. As well as 10 more big uns with two hand weapons.
- first test gobbos have been assembled
Realistically the wolf boys and count as will most likely be done next.. Then there is GHVI and AC 2...
I'm in a very heavy construction phase right now with numerous units under nearing competition. This is very similar to Oct 2007 when I had an explosion of units coming off the painting desk.
Right now the following are all either being painted or being constructed:
- 10 more Big Un's - being painted, bringing the unit up to 30
- Count As army standard- being painted
- 10 wolf riders - being painted
- 14 orc arrer boyz-now primed
- 16 chaos dwarf warriors with great axes- being painted
- death rocket- under construction
So as you can see there is going to be a ton of stuff coming soon.
Here is the Count as standard, bearer and guards before being primed:

HB- PIP? I'm not sure what you are asking???
Thanks guys. I'm think the Count as Army standard may be done next. I painted the sorcerer last night and he is nearly done now...
Thanks Thane Godri GoblinSlayer- Its all relative i look at others work and go "Wow I suck at converting"
Heh, you wont have to wait long. All but the base is pretty much done. I might have pics up tonight... stay tuned.
Your patience has been rewarded... Here is my nearly complete Count As Army Standard! I just have to finish up the bases...
To recap this idea was spawned here:
http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/forum/showth...p?tid=1887
Then I spotted some incredible concept art by Ishkur:
http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/forum/showth...227&page=9
That led to me doing some quick concept "art" to work out the idea:

Which led to the completed figure...

After I shot these guys I got quite a bit more done to the accompanying unit of warriors. Only fitting I started those guys in late September!
I also love the thorne-bearers.
Thank you for listing the whole part from idea, concept, and execution
I don't use GW paints but here goes: prime black, drybrush dark gray, drybrush light gray, drybrush slightly/lightly with white.
