The gathering horde for Phase II of WCSTAP continues with more recruits arriving. First off even thou I wasn't planning on adding them for quite some time an offer came up and I pounced on it. Now 25 Sneaky gits are awaiting their movement tray and priming on my painting table.

Due to another trade I now have parts to assemble another orc to round out my unit of 30 Big-Un's. Basically this is a chaos warrior torso with a chaos warrior body and Orc arms and a head. Green stuffing remains but as I have done this before to create another Orc via the same method I'm confident that he will go together quickly.
Still have to green stuff quite a bit of him.

Work on the Death rocket continues. I tried adding fenders to it and it didn't work out right so I scrapped the idea. next up is green stuffing the flames from the rockets themselves and I now have a good idea of how I will attempt the smoke for them.
As you can see I added more rockets coming out of the barrels to represent it just firing.

Lastly my finished mortar, sorry about the dark first pic. The scenic base was left intentionally plain echoing back to when it was glued to a piece of card painted cr*ppy green with stacked BBs to represent cannons balls...

Yah, I did go a bit overboard on that!
For the smoke I will bu using spray painted cotton. Then I plan to dry-brush dark gray for it with some red highlights. I got the idea for the technique from the General's Compendium. One of the very last sections: Raiding the Enemy PG. 166-169 gives the how to's of making smoke and flames.
Godbob: Feel free, that is one reason this blog exists.
Finally an update! This blog really has gone far longer then I wanted without any major updates, but I really haven't had the time to work on my army since mid-June really. Hopefully that will change starting with today's updates.
Whether or not I will resume my torrid pace that I was on before remains to be seen...
First up a unit that is most likely will be done next: my unit of 20 Black Orcs. Right now there are perhaps 50-60% of the way there. There is still a great deal of detail work to go, but the major color blocks are now there.
I guess there is probably about another week of solid work to go and they will join my specials.

Look what came in the mail,a dn look what I did to him, needless to say I terminated the hat with "extreme prejudice" (kudos for those who can figure out the movie reference on that one)...
The idea with him is that I will make his hair very gray and grayish, after all he is the High Priest of Hashut, he's bound to have a few gray hairs here and there.

Lastly work continues on the Death Rocket. I now have all the detail work done and have begun adding the green stiff for flames from said rockets.

That's it for now, hopefully updates will become more of a regular nature again.

but how did you make that BLorc armour it looks great

1) Prime the models black.
2) Drybrush a darker silver (the paint i use calls it gun metal)
3) Drybrush a standard silver over that.
4) Drybrush a reddish/ rust colored red over that.
5) Wash with badab black or blank ink (your choice)
6) Lightly Drybrush darker silver back over the top.

Thanks, that was the look I was going for. I now have them done and their the gravel on the bases is drying. I should have them finished up this week.
I'm looking around and there is so much for me to choose from in terms of units. Choice FTW!
Here are the Black Orcs all finished and pushing me to an even 3,400 points for the army! Gold Medal here I come; look out Wallacer!
In all seriousness I am pleased with how they turned out and was surprised that they painted up quite well and rather quickly. I especially like the banner.

As Wallacer noted, I specifically went for a rough feel to these guys with either the armor being rusty or blood splattered.
Next up is the orc arrer boyz most likely. The other night I got the (what I like to call) the "gross area painting", by that I mean the large swathes of colors. Since they are kinda liek a slave unit I'm painting them in similar colors to my orc boyz. lots of browns mixed with some red.
I am also in the process of priming my hobgoblin warriors: I will have 2 units of 20 FC, 2 units of 10 ("Speed bumps") and a unit of 25 Sneaky Gits to paint.
Oh yeah... I mentioned in my user interview on the last podcast about some "uber, secret project(s)... I just started on one... details to come but I am doing WIP shorts...

And it think its appropriate to do this here: 3,000th post! Yahoo!
I actually got some painting done last night! The unit that looks like it will be done next is the unit of 14 orc arrer boyz. They are progressing nicely and rather quickly. Perhaps tonight i will have some WIP shots up so stay tuned for that.
The unit of hobgob warriors and sneaky gits are now primed and ready to go as well. So assuming that I should get some time tonight looks like get few more things done.
Go a few minutes to spare before shuffling off to bed so I figured I posts some quick pics of my WIP Arrer boyz. These guys were a bit of a pain in terms of ranking them up so I had to snap a few arms and reposition them as well as feet after I had glued them down.
I'll get some better pics later but wanted to share that they are about 75% of the way there now. lots of little detail work to go, mainly the rivets on the armor... joy!
They are coming along nicely thou. The test model turned out awesome. Obviously the bases aren't even based yet.

Also here is a small WIP of my sorcerer who will use the lore of shadows.

More to come hopefully as once these guys its either hobbos of which I have tons now or my first uber secret project, hmmm which to do

This will not impact my army assembly thou (I hope) as I plan on working on units as I assemble this beast.
Finally, even thou I'm working on my scratch built juggernaut http://chaos-dwarfs.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3654 I'm still finding some time for working on my army. Here is my latest unit to joint the army and my quest to have one of every unit type in the list. The Orc Arrer boys! these guys could have been a huge help in my first out when my artillery got charged and locked up into comabt against glade riders and I had nothing around to help out... problem now solved me thinks! Alright lads its off to arty guard duty.

Next up I would imagine is probably the first hobgoblin unit or the death rocket. I'm not sure which it will be perhaps both or who knows what else I might be working on.
Right now I also have three, yes that is right three sorcerers under the paint brush. One of which is Astragoth which I will use as such in home games at a whopping point total too, using Thommy's rules that appeared in Issue #1 of the WoH.
All said I'm poised to leap past 4,000 points painted by years end. Gold Medal here I come.
Heh, thanks. In actuality is several things: A WAAAAAY better camera, a better backdrop thou I still need a side light for better illumination; editing better in PhotoShop, using jpegs instead of gifs, etc...
There probably is some improvements in my painting as well. Many thanks for the complement.

Funny you should mention that. He is nearing the final stages now to join the unit of 30 orc Big Uns.
I don't either. All thou I didn't do much by my standards this summer. Olympics basically ate up my entire August
You're in luck as well. I am starting on my first unit of 20 now.
Willmark's Army Builder Tip #4:
Never try to jump ahead by saying to yourself: "Self, to save myself time later I'm going to just cut all these minis this way because I will be user for "X" later... When in fact the reality is that you will use them for "Y" later...
That's what happened to me with these guys:

But I hear you say "Hey Willmark why are you showing us a bunch of stinky low-life gobbos?" Refer to Army Tip #4 above. Look closely , sure the weapons swaps are a minor modification, notice the feet... I cut all of them of because I was going to cast gobbo wolf rider feet and make them into hobbos. well I switched gears and bought a ton of 4th/5th edition hobbos. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but one of the things I'm looking to do with my army is to have at least one unit of every type in the army... so it was green stuffing feet on 40 of them... joy.
Next up : Allowing me to close in even further on 4,000 points and some badly needed magical firepower is two sorcerers. For the shadow sorcerer I decided on a very simple scheme. I tried a test in a small spot on his cloak and it did not come out all that good. So decided to keep it plain and for some reason it just feels right for him.

The second is a fire sorcerer. He has been sitting on my painting desk for over a year. In fact if you go to page one of the blog you can see him in the background, but in a slightly different form, so I changed him to better fit my army.

Lastly my nearly completed Frankenstein Orc assembled out of many pieces to fill out the last spot in the Orc unit of Big Uns.

Indeed I owe you one!
