1st: Grimstonefire
2nd: Clam
3rd: Abyss
4th: Ishkur
5th (Tie): Pyro

Exceptionally close voting for 3rd, Abyss edged Ishkur by 1 vote!

Congrats to Grimstone who not only wins the GHV medal, not only gets enshrined in the Hall of Golden Hat Fame, but a nice spiffy White Dwarf Presents: Chaos Dwarfs from Bloodaxe!

In closing: round of applause for all, especially the site and foremost to Grimstonefire, well done and well earned.

Willmark

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - torn - 04-08-2008 04:00 PM

congrats grimstonefire! this will be your first medal and certainly deserving. more than alf of the voters must have voted for you so its certainly deserving, although it was very tight in the end!

and its nice to finally see whose entry belonged to who

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Willmark - 04-08-2008 04:02 PM

Your telling me Torn, counting this was anything but fun!

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Lord Archaon - 04-08-2008 04:17 PM

Congratulation Grimstonfire, Clam, Abyss, Iskur, Pyro and GRNDL! Cheers!

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Ishkur Cinderhat - 04-08-2008 04:19 PM

OMG almost made 3rd! Shock I would never have thought that, with all these great entries. Congratulations to all who won a medal, well deserved! I was also quite pleased to see the big hat faction very strong in this contest, with a lot of very cool models. Happy

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Kera foehunter - 04-08-2008 04:27 PM

congrades to the winners Cheers!Cheers!
i had a great time

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Grimstonefire - 04-08-2008 04:32 PM

This was the most infuriating GH to count the votes, between the staff I think we must have done it at least 7 times Happy

Well done to all those who entered.

My first medal!  I won't need to enter any more now Wink

Seeing as I already have a copy of WD Presents: Chaos Dwarfs, I offer this to 2nd place.  So Clam if you want this it's yours!

I love your new avatar Willmark!

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Pyro Stick - 04-08-2008 04:33 PM

Congratulations everyone! Wooo i voted for the ones that got 1st, 2nd and 3rd! I guess 5th place isnt so bad considering its my first Golden Hat entry.

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - GRNDL - 04-08-2008 04:41 PM

Phew, am I glad that's over! The anxiety in waiting was getting to me. Now at last, there is catharsis.

Conga rats to all the real winners! Now I'm going to look forward to the detailed posts about their methods, construction, etc.

(and steal all your secrets!)
(especially Warplockmonkey's!)
(who, it turns out, I voted for even though I didn't know it was his entry)
(curses Warplock)

Happy

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - torn - 04-08-2008 04:42 PM

what is interesting is that vexxus managed to get more votes than his much more chaos dwarf experienced brother lol

i wonder if that is going to be brought up around the table at thanksgiving Tongue

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Canix - 04-08-2008 04:46 PM

GREAT STUFF!! awesome work from everyone ,some great ideas and colour schemes in there congratulations to all Respect to the Hat!

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Xander - 04-08-2008 04:54 PM

It's not uncommon that I lose out to Vexxus.  In a GW painting contest, I placed 2nd to his 1st with a Chaos Champion conversion.  So it's nothing new to me. Tongue

Plus, he is very experienced with Greenskins!

EDIT: Gold, Silver and Bronze Hat medallions have been awarded. Happy

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Abyss - 04-08-2008 04:57 PM

jesus don't believe i managed 3rd with the quality of all the other entrants, and to edge ishkur of the podium by just one vote, i really am honoured... i was execting to be much further down the rankings. well done though grim, you definatly deserve it as your entry was a cut above the rest. well roll on the next golden hat i say, we all know what we're capeable of now

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Ishkur Cinderhat - 04-08-2008 05:21 PM

I'd say now is the time for you to get a proper Xandatar™, abyss. Your Golden Hat entry will make a nice one! Happy

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Willmark - 04-08-2008 05:42 PM

Grim- too true.

Special mention goes to GRNDL- best commentary on the entries!

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Abyss - 04-08-2008 05:54 PM

yer i think i'll have to do that, now i've got a medal and all i think it would be wrong not to have an avatar lol.

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Knight Of Awsome - 04-08-2008 06:03 PM

Aw... i got lower than expected... some how spending the last three days on my model was not much time

Congrats to the winnersCheers!

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Hashut's Blessing - 04-08-2008 06:36 PM

Well done to all. Cngratulations to the winners. As expected, zero votes. Shows the standards of everyone else at least Tongue Wink

I've heard that. Can;t remember who said it. I agree anyway Wink I never said I was displeased with my resulting model, I just expected it to occur. Curse the fine sculptors and painters!

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Vexxus - 04-08-2008 07:44 PM

CONGRATS to Grimstonefire, Clam, and Abyss for placing!

ALso, Kudos to all who entered, and those who voted, all of whom helped make this event one to remember!

Great work!

pretty much the same here i got 0 votes but im still happy with my finished model, but i always knew there were so many better painters here. at the end of the day bettering your past achievements is more important than bettering everyone else.

I dont think there a single entry that you would say was badly done, and i would say that CDO possibly has the most skilled modelers and painters of any army specific web forums ive ever seen. The whole community breeds improvement, and im sure your pushed as much as i am to make your nest GH entry even better!

Its true, I have experience with greenskins seeing as we painted a bunch of orcs and gobbos in the early stages.

Plus, who doesn't think that an Ostermark-Clad Empire Soldier, being ruthlessly skewered by a hobgob, is way cool.

Tongue

Not cool enough to place though... maybe next time!!

congrat to the winners and ofcours the rest who has entered this competition

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - clam - 04-09-2008 03:01 AM

WOW! A 2nd place i my first GH and for the first painted Chaos Dwarf in many, many years. Thank you all! This should really motivate me doing some serious painting sessions now - and bring some paint on my Raiding Party and that collection of classics.

And a big congrats to GFS - that entry is such a brilliant sculpt - a true winner Takes Hat off Takes Hat off

So what a great day it was, a silver medal, a Marauder Mage by post and then this:

... really don't know what to say ... it so generous of you passing this reward on to me. I have read the book a few times in the past, but I don't own a copy of it myself - so 'yes' I want it very, very much - thank you!

And like so many others, I would also like to add a big Kudos to all who entered, and those who voted. I hope this would be the standard for all future Golden Hat Competitions Cheers!

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Revlid - 04-09-2008 03:23 AM

I voted for 1st, 2nd, and 4th!

Well done, everyone! I have little doubt that most of these entries would have been in first place if this had been Golden Hat #1, which goes to show the immense distance this site has come, and the great effort put into it by Xander and all the Mods.

And I came 10th, which is a nice, round number, so that's good too.

gratz to winners, and all who entered Wink

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Xander - 04-09-2008 09:08 AM

At this point we are disussing whether or not we want to have GH6 to help out Border Town Burning, and their Mordheim supplement.  They need pictures of Chaos Dwarf warbands by the end of June!  Should we help the Chaos Dwarfs beyond these walls?

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Canix - 04-09-2008 10:20 AM

YES lets do it for GH 6 .I think it would be great to have CDmordheim warbandsRespect to the Hat!

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Ishkur Cinderhat - 04-09-2008 12:16 PM

Well the rules and characters from the CD list surely offer enough converting and painting potential. Although I've never played Mordheim, I suppose there is a points limit as well that is agreed before starting a group...? So that's something that would need to be fixed first.

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - torn - 04-09-2008 12:33 PM

As much as the mordhiem idea sounds fun, i think a whole warband may be a bit much for a lot of people. I think a better idea for a mordhiem warband would be something like what i did with a bloodbowl site a few years ago. Everyone picks one model from the pre-written list, makes it, paints it, all to a specific theme (we did norse in blue and white, thats as complicated as it needs be).

Then what you do is post your entries to someone, probably xander. they are then all photographed, judged, and whoevers model wins, win the whole warband.

i know this is a a very different approach to everyone just painting their own warband, but it would be a great prize for the winner to have, and it would be cool for it to be something we all did together.

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Willmark - 04-09-2008 01:43 PM

Well earned Clam. Great work.

While a lot to ask I think helping Border Town Burning helps us as well. In other words there are plenty of reasons to help them, one of them helping to raise the exposure of Chaos Dwarfs.

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - torn - 04-09-2008 02:01 PM

this site

http://www.geocities.com/melifaxis/

2004 legacy team, my username was tomb.

basically would enable us to create 1 whole (possibly with extras) warband, that would be of much higher standard than if we all did one separately, and im sure border town burning would still get all the pics they need.

That sounds cool.  I think I may work on a warband even if it's not for GH6!!  Is there a PDF file for the gang, I can't seem to download it from the BTB website?

If you decide this isn't going to be a GH, then maybe a warband thread in the project development would be in order.

@ Ishkur:

You have a limited budget of Gold Crowns to start your warband, then after that, you gain money from missions, and get experience etc.  Basically, the warband would be made up by a number of heroes and hencmen, as the campaign goes on, you end up with a bigger warband because you have more money to spend (in theory, but if you lose a lot, then it is in fact the opposite that happens!).

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Ishkur Cinderhat - 04-09-2008 02:28 PM

I think first of all we need to chill a bit after the awesome hype and excitement of Golden Hat V. Wink

However, if BTB need the pictures in June, then this next Golden Hat could take place in about two months, which would give us enough time to collect some creative energies again. ^^ And, say four miniatures as warband is the same amount of work as was done for the "slaves" GH.

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Xander - 04-09-2008 02:30 PM

Download the Mordheim list and take a look.

For the purposes of this contest, we would allow the inclusion of models already painted for your army if they can be used in place of the models in the list.  Since each warband needs a Sorcerer and Chaos Dwarfs, you could use your already painted models to represent those.  The only model exclusive to the list is a Gaoler, which is a special Chaos Dwarf.  So the idea might be to have GH6 be about making a Gaoler, then including pics of your Warband when combined with other CDs you already have, and a sorcerer.

Who here doesn't yet have a painted sorcerer, or warriors?

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Princess Peachie - 04-09-2008 02:50 PM

WOW!!! Congrats everyone!!! <3
*Pops champagne and colourful fireworks explode*
Especially congrats to Grimstone for getting 1st! ;3

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Canix - 04-09-2008 03:06 PM

Gaoler and mechanical cart would be good most of the others people should have already .Some warbands could be VERY small Big Grin

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Xander - 04-09-2008 03:11 PM

They don't need to be very large.  But it would be nice to have some sweet pics for Border Town Burning to use!  We can increase our reputation abroad as a fine forum that cares about everything Chaos Dwarf related!

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - torn - 04-09-2008 03:29 PM

I think the mechanical cart would be a better artisans contest entry, and the gaoler as a golden hat entry. that way it would focus on the ideas that went into the cart rather than the finished product, which makes it a more open contest. I dont think you could really judge a contest based on more than 1 model per entrant, deciding for GH5 was hard enough!

I have been looking through the pdf, and i think it is very well done and does deserve some of our attention. Im sure a lot of CDO members already have a nice set of models they could put together as a warband and take some pics of for BTB's website.

I think a gaoler would make a good golden hat competition. you could even call it a 'specialist golden hat' or something.

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - cianty - 04-09-2008 04:03 PM

Hi everyone,

I am delighted to see that you are taking interest in making the BTB warband list the theme for the next GH! And yes, I guess both sides benefit from this. Big Grin

Usually Mordheim warbands start with 500 gold crowns to recruit the initial warband members. But I do not see a need to depict a starting warband - a developed warband that includes lots of Chaos Dwarfs (1 Sorcerer, 1 Bull Centaur, 2 Gaolers, 5 Chaos Dwarf henchmen and some enslaved fellas) is totally fine, if not preferable. I thought since most of you are Warhammer players anyways you wouldn't have a problem fielding these miniatures as they would be character models (for the Heroes) of your armies already. The interesting part is the deamon-powered prison wagon in which the warband keeps the captured enemy models, of course!

Once you have settled the modalities let me know so I can advertise the contest (and this site) on the Border Town Buring website.

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Willmark - 04-09-2008 04:20 PM

Hi cianty.

No one is disagreeing with that but GH usually runs 6 weeks. 6 weeks can be difficult to fit in a large mordheim band.

Obviously the staff is discussing this.

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Pyro Stick - 04-09-2008 04:25 PM

Well since this GH was for a standard bearer and it was the biggest turn out so far why dont you try a Champion next? I bet that will give an even bigger turnout.

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - torn - 04-09-2008 04:40 PM

pyro has a good idea, you dont want the momentum GH is building up to lose itself by having a model that isnt going to be popular with all gamers. Certainly everyone can easily put another unit champion in their army, and there is so much possibility for that.

But the gaoler and prison wagon are very cool ideas and something that hasnt actually been done before. This does make the competition more open but it also will put off those who dont really enjoy converting/modeling as much as painting, as it would be a big modeling project to make.

Possibly the BTB contest could be a longer contest, ending approx 2 weeks before they need the pictures, and running alongside golden hat. that would give people to put together warbands, not to mention creating and painting prison wagons. large models can take up a lot of time, i know my gorkamorka track took around 18 hours of painting, the sand colour base coat took 3 in itself.

As always im quite happy to run with whatever is decided on, but i thin 6 weeks isnt enough time for a prison wagon. especially for people who have a lot of 'real life' commitments.

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Xander - 04-09-2008 10:31 PM

We could do a Prison Wagon for Artisan's #2, and Gaoler for GH#6?

Gaoler would essentially be a themed Chaos Dwarf Champion anyway.

At the end of both competitions we could have a separate vote for Best Warband pictures, wherein you include a small warband composed of models you already have in conjunction with the Gaoler and Wagon?

The winner of the Warband vote would get a unique medal, and like 100 slaves or something?  We need to entice people, because right now, our current Artisan's contest isn't attracting much attention, and  I worry that people will forget about the Mordheim pictures...

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Hashut's Blessing - 04-10-2008 12:48 AM

I defintely agree that a whole Mordheim warband won't be easy. Also, I like the sentiment of the suggested idea (I can't remember whom by) of each person paints a model and the winner gets them all: unfortunately, models are too expensive for that really.

I defintely think we should have a gaoler as GHVI and prison wagon as AC2 (which I hope more people enter. Thus far, two entrants for AC1! More please. There is still a little time!) would work well. People can use the gaoler as a unit champion or hero or lord in their games or perhaps to start their own Mordheim or just for the fun of having a cool model. As for the remark about people disliking converting, we're Chaos dwarfs and it's our primary diet Big Grin The website is built on sculpting Big Grin

After both competitions, people can quickly make a list, add some experience etc if they want, put the models together, take the picture and we can flood BTB (so it's not Burning too much Big Grin) with them and they can pick the ones that they would like.

Maybe we should tally those that agree with this plan and those that don't?

AC is all about a concept. Making/painting/drawing aren't necessary, but are welcomed. A few sentences/paragraphs on each ting is fine.

Well, one thing I would say is that this forum seems to encourage all of us to look beyond the everyday, to better ourselves as hobbyists, and really excel at accumulating slaves Wink

My point here is that another competition where we submit a group of models might be a really good thing. Something popular with everyone definitely makes things easier, but is easier really the goal? Perhaps the increase in challenge will be good for the community it its own way, and the success of GH5 and its momentum could promote participation even if it is "more work".

I for one welcome the challenge, and we all look at the Border Town Burning website and see all the time invested there, perhaps we will see just how amazing it is of them to include Chaos Dwarfs, and all the special rules and fluff they came up with just for us. It definitely got me amped up about CD, and the models can easily be used in regular warhammer army lists!

Please discuss! Happy

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Hashut's Blessing - 04-14-2008 10:16 PM

Just realised: MANY people said they had ideas as to who's model is whom's. Nobody has said who they thought each belonged to after the winner was announced. Let's hear them! Big Grin

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Vexxus - 04-15-2008 01:08 AM

Maybe create a new post for it HB? This post has so many convos rolling around inside it already!

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Obsidian - 04-26-2008 01:13 PM

So, just wondering...

Are there any solid plans yet and when will the next Golden Hat start? Would just give me the right drive to do more work! (even thought I'm swamped as it is! Tongue )

RE: The Golden Hat V Winner! - Hashut's Blessing - 04-26-2008 05:42 PM

good point, Vexxus Wink If one hasn't started already and I remember to start one after looking, I shall Wink
