Time travel AND psychic spying

The "Fire Staff" rules (Need a better name) will be in the next revision of my army book. It's basically a two-handed, strike last weapon with +1S and flaming attacks. Only a few units can have them.

This reminds me of seeing my favourite band perform a new song for the first time, and pointing out to them after the show that my band had written the exact same song a week earlier!

Great minds think alike.
Fools rarely differ.

I'm also a bit demotivated in sculpting painting because I'm not playing so much. Hobgoblin
However I'll thank everybody and I promise I'll show something new as soon as possible. Happy

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! More slave for us... - Willmark - 10-12-2008 09:17 AM

I'm thinking that Ishkur now has his first serious competition... Game on!

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! More slave for us... - Ghrask Dragh - 10-12-2008 11:14 AM

Great work Bassman, it's a very imposing unit to say the least Big Grin those choppas look brutal!!

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! More slave for us... - grunts - 10-12-2008 12:40 PM

wow Bassman, I love that banner.  I mean, the whole unit looks great but the banner is stupendous of itself!  Reminds me of artwork from the third edition rulebook.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! More slave for us... - Willmark - 10-13-2008 06:35 AM

The ridiculously huge axe for the champion and the dwarf head on the banner are awesome additions as well.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! More slave for us... - Bassman - 10-13-2008 08:29 AM

Thank you again guys. Takes Hat off

I'm really happy you appreciate my orcs, after spending so much time to get them proppa!
Willmark: we should tell Ishkur to stop waste time with Chaos and to go back to the Chaos dwarfs, I want to see more of his beautiful stuff!
The axe is huge because everybody should know who is Da boss!

Ghrask Dragh: choppas ARE brutal Wink I'm happy to have managed to make them as much brutal as they deserve.

Grunts: I love old style Orcs, I even wondered to make an unit of old ones. Maybe my next one with choppa and shield will be made out of 5th edition orcs.
In first project tha banner was supposed to be painted with a black/white chess-decoration, really old fashion, but the main idea come from 7th edition Orc n' goblin army book, in the showcase section there are some nice banners.

Maybe i've something for you in next days.... Happy

Oooooops, I forgot to tell you thanks for slaves!

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! More slave for us... - wallacer - 10-13-2008 10:57 PM

If I could sculpt that well i'd be making miniatures for a living.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! More slave for us... - Xander - 10-14-2008 01:17 PM

Excellent Orcs, they are reall nicely done.  Love that banner.

I can't wait to see your first unit of Chaos Dwarfs fully converted and painted!

At your orders! Takes Hat off
This is my first unit painted in the army, almost 1,5 years ago. Rebased, provided with shields (I have only 6 of them Tongue), upgraded to 25 and with banner re-painted.

as I'm going with the "classic" 4/5th ed style Respect to the Hat! I made only minor conversions, just to make the unit a little less plain.. and with minor conversion for my champion. Do you recognize him? Wink

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! Warriors are slowly coming - Thommy H - 10-16-2008 08:04 AM

Very nice, especially the shields.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! Warriors are slowly coming - furrie - 10-16-2008 08:18 AM

the beards are strange, but yet the are cool

Shields look awesome dude, love them Takes Hat off

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! Warriors are slowly coming - Bassman - 10-20-2008 08:43 AM

Thank you guys Takes Hat off
Tommy H, Ghrask : yes I'm proud of my red Rolleyes I tried to make something different than usual but... "classic" at the same time.
Furrie: I felt that my dark scheme was lacking colors. In my fluff they are a symptom of mutations... if we can have tusks we can also have bluebeards Wink

Nobody told me about the champion... Hobgoblin

Big Grin Regards, Bassman

Well, I'm a bt disappointed! I believed mine was a simple question Rolleyes
He is the standard bearer n.1 http://www.solegends.com/citcat9x4/c93530-02.htm
The banner was missing  and I needed a champion so.... Evil idea

Well, it's time for a new update...
Do you remember my bolt throwers?

I have to thank you all for your kind words.
I'm slowly painting my hobgoblin wolfriders, as not having better pictures of them unpainted I'll show you some old pictures.
Sorry for bad quality of pics:

I took an old goblin wolfrider as a base, adding the "beer belly" and prolonged legs:

then I shaped head and clothes to look like 4th ed hobgoblins:

shaped sleeves and gave him a nice trumpet, he is a musician!

and here the guy completed on catwalk Rolleyes :

enjoy Rolleyes new (old Hobgoblin ) pics are coming soon! Takes Hat off

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! "werewolves" "there wolves!" - Bassman - 11-06-2008 10:29 AM

Here are some old pictures,
some of the details I added to "classic" wolfriders:

Unit completed but basing,
front rank:

rear rank:

What's happening in the rear rank? Shock
roll animosity... 1! Squabbling Hobgoblin

that's why they never reach the other side of the board! Stupid scum... Hobgoblin
Here pictures of the ultimate duel! Hashut!

The guy with the axe (Snaglitz) cheated last night, during a dice game. Somebody blabbed the guy with the dagger (Keetah) something about "tricky" dices, so Keetah decided to resolve the problem the hobgoblin way: backstabbing! Evil idea
The problem is that Snaglitz reflexes were surprisingly faster than Keetah expected, so now they are "discussing" about what happened.
Of course Keetah negates he'd like to stab Snaglitz Rolleyes

I'm painting the unit, I wish to finish the job ASAP.
Bassman Respect to the Hat!

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! "werewolves" "there wolves!" - tjub - 11-06-2008 11:09 AM

Ah, I like them alot... Some nice GS skills there. Happy
The only thing Im think is that Snaglitz should have a longer axe. Now he seems to be holding the very tip with just two fingers...

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! "werewolves" "there wolves!" - centauro enano - 11-06-2008 12:29 PM

No details were well appreciated.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! "werewolves" "there wolves!" - Bassman - 12-12-2008 04:40 PM

I finally painted my wolves, now they are ready for battle!
My Bluebeards obviously forbid them to wear the Clan's colors so they wear their hobgoblin Clan color, purple and yellow.

First rank:

Second rank:

Charge my Brave (brave ?) hobgoblins!

Hard life of a wolf:

Do you not know wolves is an endangered specie?

If you like them... more pics are coming soon Respect to the Hat!
Thank you for watching.. Takes Hat off

Absolutely stunning. The sculpting is great and the little tweaks here and there ('the' fight, arrow, wound, pouches, etc.) are very nice touches. Then you picked a very good colour sceme and painted them very well.

I'll definattely will be looking forward to your next updates! Happy

tjub: start hobgoblins, with your skills they'd be great!

Xander and Furrie: so far I have 1 unit of 25 warriors, 20 orcs, 10 wolfriders, one death rocket and 18 blunderbusses but I do not field 18 blunders anymore.
So I'll have two units of 15, so they'll be fixed, there will be a few conversion and some unit fillers to get 2X15 blunderbusses units.
As soon as I finish this work there will be an army shot.
Hopefully before Christmas.

I've been very then I have yet to have my hobbo doggiez squabble, in fact in the few games that i have played only my Big-Uns have failed and even then I got the "we'll show um!"

I'm sure there will be a game when it all blows up in my face, which is going to be  bummer. i never had to deal with such issue when I played High elves for 15 years... hmmm.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! "Release the wolves!" - Bassman - 12-16-2008 04:29 AM

Dunno, my orcs do not have this problem, they normally roll 2+, sometimes they even waagh.
It's only the wolfriders that roll 1 ever! Sometimes they got stuck for a couple of turns Hobgoblin
Oh, well, they're hobgoblins after all Hashut!

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! Gunpowder! - furrie - 01-05-2009 02:03 PM

they look realy cool

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! Gunpowder! - CheTralfara - 01-05-2009 02:31 PM

They do look fantastic. I think big hats would have been much more successful if they had painted them in the dark schemes of this community all along.

But I don't understand... does this mean you do not want to use the Death Rocket ever?

or are you planning a conversion for another Death Rocket?

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! Gunpowder! - Kera foehunter - 01-05-2009 05:45 PM

WOW !!! for a guy with a bad hand 15 new painted blunderbusses
Great job

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! Gunpowder! - Bassman - 01-06-2009 06:34 AM

Thank you again,
honestly it's not a total new painting. My blunders were painted but needed a refresh, due to battle damage and my improved painting skills.
I kept flesh and bluebeards and almost re-done metal parts and retouched reds.
The Death rocket was almost 90% repainted as I was not happy with previous result.

CheTralfara: no, I decided to not use my death rockets for a while. I have another one unpainted that will be used to fill up my second unit of blunderbusses.
So out of 20 blunderbusses I made two units of 15 Respect to the Hat!
I found the death rocket a waste of points but I love the miniature so I'm happy to found a way to use it.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! Gunpowder! - Swissdictator - 01-07-2009 01:08 PM

I like it Bassman. I like the shading of the red on the hats especially.

The alternate configuration on the rocket is pretty neat looking too.

The colourscheme looks great. Not such a  huge fan on the new chassis but each to his own. And it's not like those hobbo ever look at the assembly instructions Happy

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! Gunpowder! - Bassman - 01-13-2009 07:20 PM

Somebody liked it as you can see on Golden Hat banner! lol
Well, my problem with "classic" configuration is that I always found weirdo you cannot point upwards the rocket. I always imagined Chaos dwarfs point the rocket to the sky, it makes a big loop over the battlefield and fall down randomly here and there. I tried to switch the rocket and.... bingo! Simple and easy.
It also help me to show gold color of arrows, that's one of my favourite NMM colors Happy

Yes, you know hobgoblins.... Unsure

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! Gunpowder! - clam - 01-14-2009 05:53 AM

Yes, it's a very nice paintjob (again) Takes Hat off

And the base is so cool. What did you use for those sharded stones/rocks? Bark?

RE: Bluebeards' Clan! Gunpowder! - Merchant - 01-14-2009 06:15 AM

What part did you use to make your Death Rocket? I can there is some CD death rocket parts, but what is the rest from?

It is a very cool conversion as well as an overall great paintjob- and you are entering the GH, right? Happy

Cheers Cheers!

I don't see any other parts but those from the original CD Death Rocket.

Just think, that the effect - by turning the Rocket the other way around - makes it look so much different - so you think it has to be a conversion. Simple but very effectiv Takes Hat off

What a great picture (only just spotted it sorry mate Rolleyes) have some slaves! as I've said before I'm a massive fan of your army and have been since HoH, excellent style of painting!! This army will be one of the best when it's fininshed Cheers!

Guess who..... Rolleyes Big Grin

Thank you for using my rocket, it was also nice to find almost my entire painted dwarfs in WoH #3 Respect to the Hat!
Next time just pm me if you want more/better pictures for WoH.

As previously said, the rocket is a plain rocket, with no conversion at all, just turned back the rocket. Nothing else added.

Clam: basing is done with this kind of rock (only Italian text but there are some pictures)
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ardesia

sorry but I do not think you can find it outside of Italy. It's a black stone, once it was used for blackboards, it is very cool as you could break it into thiny pieces. It realy fit my "wasted land" theme. Hashut!

Unfortunately there will be no updates for at least a month, my Japanese language course is taking all my free time, and there is job to... Sad

Great army bassman. I love the blunderbuss unit! I like how you reversed the paint colours. Usually you see the red armour however you've gone with dark armour and red detailing, I love the colour scheme.

Thanks everybody but, Zanko, please read the post, still WIP, this means not even finished to sculpt, not to said painted.
Red is the old color, this set of miniatures was an old bargain on ebay and the troll was covered with an hugly red.... I will paint it properly, do not worry! Takes Hat off

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Naked power! - Bassman - 03-27-2009 05:26 AM

Hi everybody,
I finally managed to complete my first 25 hobgoblins unit! Cheers!
Converted, magnetized and ready for brushes.
As you can see every mini is from Battle of Skull Pass, I use them as naked hobgoblins, so I get rid of most of the shields and spears.
I know details are not really detailed Unsure but I have to sculpt at least 75 of them!! I tried to shape arms the best as I can in a very short time. I wish nobody will notice them when painted Rolleyes

Smile.... Happy

I always loved 5th ed metal trolls as much as I hate the BSP troll but I have only the latter so... why do not sculpt him a new nice (?) face?
His pose is also very static, here is a new one!

Hope you like them, comments/critics are always welcome Happy

Dunno, sure nobody fears my hobgoblins... even with an huge gong Hobgoblin
I found it a bit too large, it literally tower over other units, still studying how to compose my second hobgoblin unit. Maybe it will be reduce a little bit.

In the meanwhile I'm painting my first unit of hobgobbos and converting one Orc to Black Orc.
Pics are coming after Easter. Cheers!

the trolls in those units look pretty nice, and the resculpting superb. 75 nakeds to undertake seems like a daunting task to me.. but i am realizing its not so bad. Great work, might be incorporating some of those nice ideas.

Yes, the troll is furious, he's going to give his slavers what they deserve. All my hobgoblin units (wolfz and boyz) have issue with squabbling... is this the reason why do they actually squabble all the time during battles? Unsure Next time I shall model a couple of units not squabbling.... Angry

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. wrath of the troll. - Bassman - 06-06-2009 06:10 AM

Hi,
Bluebeards' Clan is back!

It's been years I'm proxing my third sorcerer and now I really felt it was time to make a new one!

I'm proud to introduce you Barak-Dzharr apprentice sorcerer (Level I... sometimes level II Tongue Wink ) with Staff of Sorcery.

I always tought it was strange to name something able to add +1 to dispell as Staff of Sorcery. However this is the name GW gave to it. Unsure
"Regular" dwarfs have magic resistance so why do not shape a staff able to give +1 to dispell with "regular" dwarf imaginery? Like Chaos Dwarfs still preserve a memory of their ancient background.
Obviuosly I canot just stick dwarfs icons together, I added a touch of evilness to them. I'm pretty satisfied.
Talking too much as usual....

It's Christmas time, so time to update my blog! Big Grin

It was a while I was working on some stuff to complete my army but never found time to update my blog. So here are new updates.
Hope you enjoy them!

First: vanilla goblins, count as hobgoblins. A while ago I bought 60 old goblins for nothing on ebay, it was a real bargain.
Thanks to this forum I discovered how useful are hobgoblins archers, when I spotted these goblins I tought they already looked like hogoblins and I wanted something fast to paint without massive conversion so....

my hobgoblins archers:

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Golden Hat X entry - Bassman - 12-23-2009 09:42 AM

Second: my bull centaurs.

They were a not-so-cheap-bargain on ebay, but at a reasonable price I got my standard bearer (my Golden Hat IX entry) and 5 bulls. They were literally covered by junk paint so it was a pain in the açs to clean them.
This is the result:

Dunno why pictures are a little blueish... maybe I will take better ones.

added new pics below, much better IMO

I altered a little bit my painting technique as I found that the sealer really dulled hihlights and my minis looked a little flat on the battle field. Now my minis look a little worse on pictures but much better on the battle field Happy

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. It's Christmas time! - Bassman - 01-02-2010 02:49 PM

Strong winds torment the mountains of Mourn so hard the rocks seem to owl and cry their desperate pain.... nights are so dark in that area you cannot spot anything but a curtain of blackness. Only the most black heartened creatures struggle to surivive in a land hardly touched by sun, the vile hobgoblins, cowards goblins, more feared creatures like orcs and ogres and the damned kindred of the Chaos Dwarfs...... above everything rule the dark masters of sorcery in the tower of Zharr Naggrund. Only the strongest animals dare to fly that black sky, among them a creature born of fire and molten stones... the great taurus! Beasts of legends, ridden by the lords of slavery.... Hashut!

Here is Zhann-Ngrund servant of the great sorcerer Zharr-Ngrund, master of the expeditionary forces of the Bluebeards clan.

and if you are good boys and girls an army shoot is coming Wink

Well well what do we have here? A classic model, pimped a little and executed with gorgeous OSL? Me likey! Mucho. Takes Hat off I only find the base a little... black. Maybe add some more stuff here? Like a few lighter spots of bone or some lava?

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Taurus unleashed - Bassman - 01-04-2010 04:39 AM

Thank you!

Border Reiver:if you were bad, no cookies! Angry

Tjub: thank you. Honestly the mini is pretty old... I started it almost two years ago with the corversion and left it uncomplete for years. About 4-5 months ago I restarted because I needed a Taurus lord for my list. Completed the conversion and painted about 2 months ago. Then came GH X and I waited because I was busy with GH project. So not so fast, uh? Tongue Wink

Kera: thank you, most of the time spent painting was to get a proper lighting job. I'm happy it works!

Ishkur: I love old Taurus but the model is a little bit flat for a Taurus and a Lord. He needed a fancy throne and a cool hairdress to look more "lord". Chains, rings, horn were added to the Taurus for the same reason.
About base.... yes many people pointed me my bases need something more.... I do not want to go lava... as soon as my army is finished I will try to pimp them a little bit with skulls, weapons and bones...

Awesome update. BC looks darn nice - and the Taurus ... WOW! Big Grin

The paint is excellent (though the pictures are a bit dark) and I really like the jumping pose.

Great, great work Takes Hat off

I've been a very good boy. Even santa saw it, and gave me a PS3 for Christmas. So where is my army shot?

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Taurus unleashed - Bassman - 01-06-2010 07:46 AM

Because you all have been good guys here is:

THE FULL ARMY SHOT!

Here I fielded all my painted stuff, legally playable (so no single completed minis not able to be fielded alone...). I've not yet calculated points but I think is a legal army... around 1000-1500 points.

I need sorcerers but maybe with next GH..... who knows Wink

Clam: thank you! Read previous answer to Tjub, Christmas was only for parents, not the hobby! Big Grin
Yes, pictures are not the best... unfortunately I do not have a proper lamps and I rely on natural light and a bulb lamp..... but in this period sun seems to have disappeared from North Italy.....

Thank you again Happy

Do you want to know how I painted reds?
My recipe is: scorched brown, 75% scorched brown and 25% ruby red, 50% scorched brown and 50% ruby red, 25% scorched brown and 25% ruby red and final highlights with pure ruby red.
I do not remember how many layers but I add very thin layers every time. I wather them a lot so every layer do not entirely cover the colour behind.

If transition is too abrupt I uses washes to smooth transition of colours.

Hope it helps.....

Excellent Army!  I really love the hobgoblin unit with the Troll in it, and you've converted his static pose into a very animated one with the gobbos flying all around him trying to restrain him!  What a great concept!  Can't wait to see him all painted up!  Well Done!

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. New sorcerer (no GH entry) - Bassman - 03-05-2010 05:00 AM

Preparing my Golden Hat entry I was painting two sorcerers, having no time for both I decided to go with another entry and left this guy... now he is 99% done and I want to show you him.
Honestly I think he could be improved, any suggestion? Maybe I'm going to retouch his fire effect....

Well, he is Grund-N-Zhann fire sorcerer of the Blue beards' Clan Hashut!

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. New sorcerer (no GH entry) - tjub - 03-05-2010 06:18 AM

Looks great! Happy Maybe a little darker on the tips of the flames, brown and black?

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. New sorcerer (no GH entry) - Loki - 03-05-2010 06:36 AM

Great work Bassman he looks really good, i am loving thoses flames Happy

Fits perfectly with the rest of your army.

Awesome Takes Hat off

Am I the only one how didn't do multiple entries for this one - lol?

Looking forward seeing what you've came up with for GH.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. New sorcerer (no GH entry) - Snotling - 03-05-2010 08:37 AM

yay, you finally painted this sorcerer.I liked him from the first sight. the fire is pretty cool and well painted as well. how do you bend the plasticard on the top of the staff? I heard that something like this is made with a hairdryer, but I never tried it out before. looks good on your mini. the more I see them, the more I like your blue beards, I start to regret that I decidet to have a blackbeard army, blue looks cool on CD beards. Keep it up! Takes Hat off

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. New sorcerer (no GH entry) - Bassman - 03-05-2010 05:24 PM

Thank you,
wish you like my GH entry as well Tongue

tjub yes, I was thinkin' to add a dark brown tip at the top of flames.

Snotling Not working with massive chuncks of plasticard but thiny deails, just your hands is enough to bend it. I slowly bend it with fingers, being carefull to not be very fast and broke it. Heatin' with friction is enough. Some glue could help to keep the shape. Never really had problems with it.
My bluebeards started like a way tohighlight dark beards. Then it evolved in actual bluebeards. I like how they turned and I'm happy you like them. Takes Hat off

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. New sorcerer (no GH entry) - Snotling - 03-06-2010 09:52 AM

Yep, I like your GH entry! Takes Hat off
Maybe the fire on this one would look better with dark brown (and in the end black) tops, but it's up to you, on the photo it looks good right now, too.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. New sorcerer (no GH entry) - Bassman - 03-15-2010 11:49 AM

While waiting for the Golden Hat (thank you again for bronze medal Happy ) I was working on my Black Orcs
I wanted to have them fast and cheap so I gathered all the orcs I had, some still from the 5th edition starter set, some form Ebay bargains and assembled. Then I started to convert them to black orcs. As it always happens with my hobby project, what started as a fast and easy conversion project turned into a conversion madness :/
Those are very WIP shots, they will be turned into (hopefully) believable Black Orcs.

Here is the unit with 15 black orcs, with shield:

Here we have three boyz, guys on the left have kustom weapons....

This guy was the test model, he is more or less done. Do you think is armor is believable as heavy armor? Other guys will have bigger shoulder pads and enclosed helmets.... other will be literally covered by chain mail Happy
His tiny butt:

Front:

These guys are among my favourite. Why? because they have huge axes!! Big Grin

He is my unit filler and finally I found an use of my lonely boar! He is my unit mascotte and he is called "Willy". He is so cute, isn't him?
When he is done he will be an optional command group. You will see why....

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - Snotling - 03-15-2010 11:58 AM

Cool stuff. I keep in mind that ordinairy orc are really a better base for CD Blorcs... more freedom ^^. Hm, but yours can be lees orc and more chaos, imho. But when you say, you want them quick, this should be enough, they look good so far. let's see how they look painted

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - Bassman - 03-16-2010 06:52 AM

Nonono, I turned into a conversion frenzy so they will be all heavily converted.
Because of work, real life and so it will take longer than scheduled..... I'll try to update this blog.
Most of them are now covered by green/brown stuff Wink

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - BLOOD AXE - 03-16-2010 08:24 AM

Bassman- truly an awesome army. Fantastic work.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - Snotling - 03-16-2010 10:06 AM

I don't understand why all of you are so in love wiht their precious "real life", chaosdwarfs are much cooler!! Tongue Wink Well, for me it's the same, it will take a while untill I can show some new stuff again Sad

I'm looking up to see your Blocks, man! This is a project I really want so start, too, but you know... with the size of my army, there were more important units to do.  So I want you to make the most Chaosdwarfish Blorcs Hashut ever saw! Respect to the Hat!

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - Bassman - 03-20-2010 08:47 AM

Works in progress 2.0 Happy
more are going to come.....
Guy on the left is 99% done. I think he is really believable as Black Orc, isn't him?

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - tjub - 03-20-2010 09:24 AM

Indeed, they look great as Black Orcs! Happy

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - Snotling - 03-20-2010 11:28 AM

They are beliveable Blorcs and they also are beliveable prioners, but I'd like to see even more armour ^^

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - BLOOD AXE - 03-20-2010 02:21 PM

Awesome army! Id like to see more pics of the Chaos dwarves. I like your color scheme.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - Bassman - 03-20-2010 06:36 PM

Tjubs: Thank you Happy

Snotling: yes, you're right but they are still wips. More armor is yet to come!

BloodAxe: more chaos dwarves? There are pics in the thread. Well actually I have only three regiments of chaos dwarfs so far: warriors and 2 blunderbusses.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - BLOOD AXE - 03-20-2010 11:42 PM

MORE Chaos Dwarves dammit!Mad

(Im joking- great stuff_ i think Im gonna steal your darker paint scheme.)

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - clam - 03-21-2010 03:26 AM

I relly like how a cheap/quick addon to this army ends up a heavy converted unit. The are awesome Bassman. Great heavy armour look, but like Snotling I'd also ike to see even more armour.

Fluff-vice the shold probably be even bigger - but I really like the looks of these - and will fit you army perfectly.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - Bassman - 04-03-2010 03:21 AM

Hi, guys.
Happy easter and enjoy new WIP pics.
Yes, more armor is the way!

Unit fluff in a nut: fluffwise after the great rebellion, black orcs scattered in the areas around the Chaos Dwarf empire. If so I imagine some tribes remains close to the Dhawi Zharr dominions, as they do not controll entirely their large dominion due to their limited numbers (and who really trust the efficency of hobgoblin patrols? Unsure ). Some brave (or fool) Chaos Dwarf warmonger still enroll a few black orcs during their raiding expeditions. They act as mercenaries, that's why they have rag tag armors.

Here we have a couple of pics, still wip, so details are to be added:

I told ya some of them are literally covered by chain mail!

I sculpted the right gauntlet, added chest plates, chain mail and protections for legs.... I think is enough as an heavy armor, dont' you?

This is the leader of the unit, as I told you rivits, details are still to be completed. He had once a discussion with an hobgoblin chieftain how to divide the payment. Well, Willy (the boar) took care of the wolf (as you can see) and the balck orc boss of the hobgoblin chieftain......

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - Skink - 04-03-2010 11:12 AM

At the beginning I was kinda sceptic  about using normal Orcs as Blorcs. But with more Armour they are awesome i need to admit. The sculpting is majestic as always, I´ve been impressed especially by the wolf pelt on the boss and on the chainmail bits. Can you post a tutorial on how sculpt chainmail? That would be nice. And happy easter to you as wellTakes Hat off

Happy Easter to you. too Happy

Looking good. Really like were this project is going - it might end with a few 100% own sculpted Blorcs to please you Tongue

And yes, the chainmail is looking awesome - so a few tips would be appreciated Wink

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - Bassman - 04-06-2010 05:11 PM

Thank you.
The project is in stand by as I'm painting 10 hobgoblins archers and two bolt throwers I need for upcoming tourney on sunday.
I will play an allied armies tournament. Everyone enter the tournie with an allied and each one plays with 1250 points.
There are some limits in powerdices and warmachines. Obviously "evil" armies can match only "evil" armies and "good" armies can match "good" armies. Sounds a lot of fun.
I am going to play allied with a Vampire Count. I think it's a nice match. Happy

After the tournie I'll go back to the Black Orcs...

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Black Orcs WIPs - Bassman - 04-19-2010 08:43 AM

OK, the tournament was an epic failure for me and my allied but at least I got another bunch of the army completed.
Here are some WIP pics of my second hobgoblin unit. That gong was left for too long on the shelf. Now it has its own use Big Grin

and some details:

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. More wips - Bassman - 06-20-2010 04:15 PM

OK, guys and gals, new update. Sorry to tell you this will be my last update for a long time. Do not start to cry in despair Happy I'll be back very soon with a new project: a commission work with our beloved Chaos Dwarfs.

I finally managed to finish my second unit of Hobgoblins. Hope you like them. Happy

da front line:

da bozz:

da gong of doom!

da stoopid guyz always squabbling, da punch!

Lol. I love last pic Big Grin

A you can see I let my imagination roaming freely with the huge gong (no game effect at all) and the characters in the unit (I do not actually use them, all of them are plain hobgoblins).
I wanted to try NMM copper and verdi-gris effect to simulate copper rusting. I'm pretty happy with it.

C&C are more then welcome,
Bassman

Not sure if I think the squig fits in the unit, but other than that it looks great! Its hard to do Greenskins without a brawl or some comical filler. I think the gong gives the unit a good "slave feeling" too... Happy

Thank you guys.

I love create hobgoblin units. They are scum of Warhammer universe Happy

Tjub: I know the squig is a little bit out of place but I had this mini from a bunch of Battle of Skull pass goblins I bought on ebay and wanted to use it.
I do not think it is so out of place as hobgbolins are greenskins and they could have a way to get some squigs.
And are you so cruel to separate an hobgoblin from his beloved pet? Bad boy...... Wink

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. New Hot Pics! - Bassman - 11-10-2010 11:09 AM

Now that GH is over, time to unleash my greens!
Thank you to everybody that voted for me. This time I knew I was not going to win but I really wanted to be back into GH after a few while! Next time will be better ;-)
Why I did not win? Because orcs cannot beat Chaos Dwarfs!!!

Here is my black orc musician, 90% built from scratch.
As you can see only legs, one arm and the choppa are original parts. The rest? Selfsculpted Wink

Thank you, this is one of the greatest compliments you could give me Big Grin
The idea that it was hard to spot my work from orginal parts..... well it makes me feel like a "pro" Takes Hat off

Obsidian: I like to work with brown stuff for armor and chainmail as it keeps better it's surface tension making easier to sculpt sharp edges. Even when it cures it become very hard and cuts are very clear.
Green stuff is much better for "soft" surfaces like clothes and muscles...

Well, I wish to uptdate this blog more often! dead

I'd say green stuff is still the best i've tried, it just seems to stick.
I do fear however how much saliva is on each of my models as i have a bad habit of sucking the GS tool.
Bit of myself in every model Shock

didn't know you sculpted that! that good huh?

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Golden Hat pics - clam - 11-12-2010 05:29 AM

A trained eye will notice these things - and for that reason you entry was rewarded with 1/3 of my votes. Not is it an awesome conversion - but also paints are nice and smooth (as always). So please post the painted ones as well.

But no, such an entry cant win here. GH is for Chaos dwarfs and Choas dwarfs alone) - unless the theme definition rules them out (if you have ambitions winning it, that is). This you have stand a much better chance if it has been 'do a greenskin' comp.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Golden Hat pics - Bassman - 11-12-2010 01:24 PM

Thank you everybody, as said previously the fact not everybody notice my sculpting work is a compliments in my eyes (and yes Tjub I understood what you meant to write lol) Happy .
Calm: this time my intention was not to win but to enter. I love Golden Hat and I wanted to come back after a few while. I even sculpted a miniature I do not think I'm going to use in games for a while.

More pictures are going to come, do not worry Happy

Whah?  There's greenskins under the CD banner, and Blorcs count. I seem to remember several nice blorc models in previous GHs. I suppose if you're counting on the purist bias, then sure, blorcs and hobboes ain't going to get you much support, but they are part of CD lore - at least in terms of Ravening Hordes, etc.  Obviously there's no place in the old skool CD philosophy...

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Golden Hat pics - Bassman - 11-30-2010 12:23 PM

At last we have pictures. This is a picture I wanted to enter in GH competition until "somebody" let me understand it's three pictures in one! Tongue

Hope you enjoy details.

And.... (big drums roll.....) in 2011 my army will be back! I'm going to finish commission works (you will see pictures very soon) and the aim for new year is to complete my Chaos Dwarfs army. It is performing pretty well on the battle field and it really deserves to be finished.

Wel, see ya soon Takes Hat off

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Golden Hat pics - Bassman - 01-08-2011 09:29 AM

I finally back to my neglected army for a while. Before going back to my commissions :-)

Here are my black orcs completed, massively converted from 6th edition arrer boyz (the monopose from the starter set) and spare orcs I had lying around. Now they just need some paint:

This guy brought to the battle field his lil' friend, do you think he can count as "black orc"? Big Grin

The shield guy's two hands axe is one of my favourite:

Lovely Orcs!!!!

Slap some paint on them now please!

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Zillion of new pics! - Bassman - 01-12-2011 03:56 AM

Willy (the boar) is back and is angrier than ever! A new scar was added and now he wears a mohawk hair cut!

He is my unit filler, unit champion and standard bearer. The banner could be detached in case I wanted to play the Black orcs without any command.

Nitro I use a cutter (1 inch blade). I suggest you to use a big blade 1" not less, very sharp. Be careful, you can even cut your fingers! I prefer big blades because plasticard is pretty hard and I wants sharp edges. Smaller blades cannot produce similar cuts into a >1mm plasticard sheet. You also have to produce more pressure and they can break easily... this could be dangerous!
I normally start from one side, cut the edge then continue to the other side to get a perfect edge.
Then I use the blade to add scratched, details... whatever.

Hope it hepls Happy

Skink they are now totally black Wink

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Zillion of new pics! - nitroglysarine - 01-12-2011 05:30 AM

@Bassman - yes indeed it does i'm doing it exactly that way but i guess i need more practice, and possibly a new set of knives!

nitroglysarine Wrote:

Yes, it could be old blades that cause your problem. Try to use a brand new blade to get a sharper edge.
I always retouch the edge, sequence:

1) cut one side _\
2) cut other side  _\
                          /
3) sharpen again, add details until I'm satisified.

Let me know if it works! Big Grin

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Zillion of new pics! - nitroglysarine - 01-12-2011 07:30 AM

chears mate, i'll have a go when I can afford a box of blacks orcs (or a nice alternative - if anyone could suggest one)

RE: Bluebeards' Clan is back!!! - Bassman - 05-17-2011 07:54 AM

The Bluebeards' clan is back!

In 8th edition I felt the dire need of new lord on foot.
He is my new lord with hammer of Hashut (or any kind of magic weapon Wink ).
He still need a shield but it will be added during painting.

I needed also a new battle standard bearer on foot. He is wearing armor of Gaz (I wanted him full plated) and holds a great weapon.
As previously said for the Lord he will be completed during painting with a nice banner.

Before leaving town for vacation I want to show you what's going on in the Bluebeards' clan.

and I was inspired by this blunderbuss:

as you can see, no tusks, no big lips.

Going back to my sweet creatures, the machine is slowly taking shape.... but, but, what's going on?

RE: Bluebeards' Clan is getting bigger and bigger - sparrow - 09-19-2011 02:28 AM

I have to agree with the others, that smoke is going to look great. I can see the model as it stands now could have been used as a sweet fulcrum for the comp.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan is getting bigger and bigger - Bassman - 09-19-2011 04:20 AM

Thank you guys, I will provide with more pics very soon. Happy

About smoke: if you remember my Golden Hat 10 entry you already know my first attempt at creating smoke.

you can go to page 8 of my blog to see more pics.

I love to imagine my Chaos Dwarfs less mutated and twisted by Chaos and more dark steam punk! But not high tech steam punk but.... steam powered machines, boilers, coal, greasy gearings and so....

RE: Bluebeards' Clan is getting bigger and bigger - Bassman - 10-09-2011 01:04 PM

My machine of war completed:

Details:

It started as an unit filler but now it is used as a Kdaii Destroyer. It's not a monster, it's a steam punk machine :-)

I'm planning a REAL Kdaii destroyer, when will be done this will come back to its role of unit filler.
Now I'm in the process of painting.

And now, believe it or not, (drum roll) the Sorcerer Lord!!!!!

Maybe somebody still remember my first post here on CDO when I enterd my sorcerer lord unpainted.
Now, after many years of fielding him bare naked, I decided to slap some painting on him !!!!! Happy

He is a shadow/death sorcerer so I think that blue/purple is a good combo. Not entirely satisfied but at least he is painted and I can field him without somebody complaining Happy
Hope you enjoy.....

Bassman, I'm bumping your blog because I have a question regarding your unit-filler/Destroyer.  I see you made your billowing smoke out of foam but how did you round it.  Did you attack it with a hot hair dryer to melt it into shape after cutting it?  The smoke is very rounded so I just can't see you cutting it with a knife and getting those kinds of results =)

Grimbold Blackhammer

RE: Bluebeards' Clan, more and more pictures! - Bassman - 02-15-2012 05:59 PM

Hello,
sorry for such a late answer.

I shaped the foam with a very sharp cutter, then smoothed edges with very fine sandpaper.
Re-shaped- sanded, re-shaped-sanded.
Long and tedious job until I was satisfied. Happy

The advantage of smoke is that if you have some chips of foam here and there it's not a problem! It's smoke, it's not supposed to be perfect Wink

RE: Bluebeards' Clan, more and more pictures! - Bassman - 03-06-2012 05:47 AM

The Bluebeards' clan is back!
With Tamurkhan I had the pleasure to try the Hellcannon and... it's a bag full of fun! You should try a misfire roll just to watch ALL sorcerers on the table tremble Big Grin
And of course, it's really effective.
I purchased an Hellcannon from ebay a while ago just for the bits I used here and there in my projects. So I gathered what was left and build my hellcannon. It's still a work in progress so more is yet to come.
I've never had a model with so many gaps to fill up. The two parts of the barrel do not fit each other and I had to sculpt a big part of the furnace!

Thank you, I am happy you like it.

Singleton: the large wheel are from an old plastic toy. It was a gun from a bag of plastic soldier I used to have since.... 25 years ago? Shock
The small one is a wheel from tracks of a Sherman tank.

Skink: what you see is a lump of glue the old owner left on those poor dwarfs... yes I'm planning to fix it. Actually I'm working on the gun. Future will tell us what I am going to do with the crew!

Tjub: of course I'm sticking with Tall Hats! They are the real dwarfs Wink

zobo1942: yes, the old printer is gone forever what to do with the software? Recycle is important in Zharr Naggrund! Respect to the Hat!

I love that, having stuff in your bits box for decades and than finally using them. Great to see the wip pictures, I really like how it came out.

And like I said in the GH topic I love just how many different Hellcannons there were, no 2 were the same but most had a few parts in common (mainly the barrel).

That's why Golden Hat is soo cool! Crazy Chaos Dwarfs engineers all together with their ideas one next to the other and.... all different!

Thank you every body. Golden Hat motivated me to finish this piece of artillery. I got the hellcannon from a bargain on ebay and cannibalized the pieces into many projects (mostly my crazy unit fillers) and now I had the idea how to use the left overs.

Of course it should be crewed by big hats! Takes Hat off

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Golden Hat entry - Bassman - 02-09-2014 08:00 AM

Bassman is back! After one year and a half finally I got a game with BABIS .
He came to Milan to collect his commissions and we decided to celebrate with a battle at local GW shop. Well Chaos Dwafs against... Chaos Dwarfs. Of course CD won Big Grin

Unfortunately BABIS official army is not complete yet so you can see to the right his temporary army and to the left my good old Bluebeards.

We had a nice afternoon together andhe was so kind to help me with rules after such a long time!

Thank you BABIS and see you soon for next battle.

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Golden Hat entry - Bassman - 02-09-2014 08:06 AM

Here you can see the highlight of the battle, when his sorcerer prophet on taurus challenged my sorcerer prophet with his loyal bodyguard.

Here another topical moment, the big duel and in the background you can see my hobgoblins cutthroats winning against BABIS's great weapons unit. That was hilarious Happy

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Golden Hat entry - Sticklander - 02-09-2014 10:04 AM

CD taking on CD, love it. Do you have any more pics or a full BR?

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Golden Hat entry - Bloodbeard - 02-10-2014 03:34 AM

Yes! This i awesome. First off all I think it's great that CDO members meet in real life.

Secondly that must have been a great game.

Two sorcerer prophets that battle each other - properly over some petty disagreement. "No! This episode of My Little Furnace is the best!"

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Golden Hat entry - BABIS - 02-10-2014 07:27 AM

eheh, that was a good battle Cheers!

it was the first time I played against another CD army, and I never thought about proper strategies Tongue so I brought the ETC limited army list I'm playing for a few months -a full assault list- with no modifications Pirate

in the pictures you can see my prophet on taurus who repeatedly tried to cast Purple Sun on Bassaman main unit, but his prophet repeatedly casted Ash Storm on mine so no casting at all Shock
his prophet casted about 4 spells with Irresistible Force O_O and he never died! Tongue so he was clearly Hashut chosen one Wink

like Bassman said I brought my temporary army (mostly unpainted or painted by previous owners) because I did a 300 km trip and I was a little bit concerned about the safeness of my "official" army, but I promise that in my next game with Bassman I will have my big hats army and some pieces not yet revealed Takes Hat off

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Golden Hat entry - Bassman - 02-10-2014 07:29 AM

Bloodbeard: ahaha, it was more about "my hat is bigger than yours!" Typical male thing Wink

Well, it was really a friendly game and we did not take note of everything for a full battle report.

I just want to describe the big duel!
All battle long my sorcerer prophet was blessed by Hashut and continued to caste ash storm on his prophet with irrestible power! This was good (preventing him from casting purple sun on my little dwarfs and zippng here and there on the battlefield) but also bad because I almost killed my wizard reducing him to 1 wound only.
The turn of the duel my mistcast killed 11 dwarfs of my body guard and took one wound out of his prophet. Luckily my prophet survived with his last wound left and smiled evily Wink
That was the moment I thought "no risk, no gain"! Even if his taurus was only 1 inch away from my regiment I decided to fire my last death rocket upon him. Hashut blessed me again and I scored a HIT! Not to said he failed saves and died piteously! Ahahahahahahha Big Grin

RE: Bluebeards' Clan. Golden Hat entry - Sticklander - 02-10-2014 07:49 AM

It really does sound like Hashut had chosen the victor before the fight had begun! Bad luck, BABIS! Clearly you haven't been sacrificing enough slaves! Wink
