Thank you gentlemen for your responses and great suggestions. You guys came up with some really cool ideas that had not occurred to me before. I'm hoping to start some sculpts by the end of the year, my ripped tendon is slowly healing and I can actually use 3 of my fingers in my left hand now. Still not able to grasp and hold things, but having fingers moving again is promising. Give this stubborn old Hobgoblin some time.
And again, thank you for the suggestions  Happy
Ammo artillery crew
Female CD
Mounted heroes
CD warband adventurers

And how about some:
Blacksmiths
Miners
Pirate/naval crew

Please feel free to post more suggestions...I love all your imaginative ideas.
Thanks!

Sorry to hear about the injury but glad to hear you will be keeping at the hobby.  My favorite items on the list so far are female CDs and mounted heroes, followed closely by artillery crew.

Multi-part kits for all the bits would also be awesome... Hats, heads, rifles, pistols, hand weapons, cannon balls tools, staffs and wands... Etc.
Hope the tendon heals well and quickly.

Cheers!

RE: Fuggit Khan's Big Hats, Big Noses n' Big Teeth Army BlogDaith 08-28-2017

As a musician, who uses his hands a lot, your injury sounds terrifying. May your recovery go as smoothly as possible.

I agree that the big hat line is sorely lacking in Chaos Dwarf females. I suppose most of the armies are with the exception of the Elf factions, and maybe Bretonnia, though I don't really count them as the number of female models is so small. Even the High Elf ratio seems pretty unbalanced. I may very well not be accounting for some things. For example Demons, Skaven, and Lizardmen are not really gendered in the same way so don't really factor in. Anyway, I think it would be awesome to see some traditional big hat Chaos Dwarf females miniatures.

I also really like the idea of monstrous sized bull centaurs, navel crew, and I think blacksmiths could be really cool to use as characters or as parts of war bands.

Needless to say I think there are some great ideas here and wanted to throw in my support for this project. Your rendition of big hats is so perfectly accurate to the originals, it would be amazing to see some new miniatures in this same style!

Another idea that hit me after looking through your plog again. You have made such amazing classic style hats, have you considered doing a classic hats kit all on its own? People could carry on your legacy of conversion.

Oh also I would kill for a Obsidian Golem heads kit to put on those mantic golems! they could also probably be great for terrain building to.

Battle standard bearer. Perhaps with a choice of banner tops and even an optional hanging standard aside from a bare pole? Or a fluttering sculpted banner if you rather want that.  Sufficiently ornate character carrying the banner, maybe with some overblown hat options and maybe two weapon options if you like (one a flared pistol). If you want to sculpt a moving Chaos Dwarf you could have the BSB striding forward, looking back/sideways at his men, shouting something while having the banner arm stretched up forward and the banner itself angled somewhat diagonally forwar. A bit like in this French revolution painting, but 4th ed blockier and with the head turned to the other side, shouting. Or maybe an unmoving pose, here we plant our flag and here we make our stand. Just an idea, do whatever you like. Happy

The call of the Bull God rings out across the world, calling for lost devotees and infamous devilsmiths who once stunned the world with the work of their hands and the madness of their minds...

Hashut!

The last awaited piece has arrived after a slew of shopping. Tools and materials and scale reference miniatures are en route to Thailand.

Strangely enough, the simple metal rulers I bought (among the first items received) and stored along with the rest of the supplies have vanished without a trace from the box. Everything else was in place. No wonder people have long believed in tomtenissar and like beings of superstition infesting houses and stealing stuff. Because sometimes there is no other explanation available!

I don't drink myself, and could only find a few bottle corks from family members, so I'm afraid da Khan of Khans will have to acquire more corks by his own consumption. Takes Hat off

I've got lots of ideas in mind for making Big Hat sculpts,  to be cat and sold via Admiralty Miniatures... let's hope that my skills are up to the ambitious task.
I even have a few ideas for making some helms...with a nice 4th edition twist. Hopefully people will like them.
And yes, I've got plenty of Big Hat designs sketched out, so hoping to sell individual Hats themselves, so people can add Big Hats to any deserving model  Takes Hat off

Thanks again Admiral!

RE: Fuggit Khan's Big Hats, Big Noses n' Big Teeth Army BlogFuggit Khan 04-04-2018

Well, my apologies for not updating my blog sooner.
Secondly, my apologies for being computer illiterate...with the death of Photob(f)ucket, I've tried to link new pics to this blog, but I've been woefully unsuccessful. I'm using Google photos, but can't get the damn pics inserted here on this page. I would've blamed elves, but I'm sure it's my own mistakes.
So, on that note, I'm adding links below to view the pics...which leads to yet another apology. I don't have my old camera anymore, and my phone sucks at close up shots. So the pics are of rather poor quality.
But something is better than nothing  Tongue Wink

So for starters, is my entry for Artisans Contest XXIll
The idea is that the Chaos Dwarves have numerous clans and sects, all far flung across their empire. I wanted to depict Twin Towers, the towers of rebirth and eternity (from my earlier story in the Scribes Contest).
These are towers devoted to gaining immortality for the Chaos Dwarf race, by using the bound souls of daemons to prolong the life of the faithful, just as Rahk Shardstone had done before.
So, the impression that I wanted was of massive towering workshops, with daemonsmiths, engineers and blacksmiths working constantly at all hours. The towers summon the faithful, and taunt the gods, by ringing of the gigantic iron bell. The bell itself is made up of hundreds of smaller iron parts, and thousands of rivets, each individual iron part and rivet is bound with a soul of an enslaved daemon:
https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipMQ...JBUkoxMlVn

Which leads me to this...The Dwarves of the Dark Bell:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/qC1ANnjveNTP6HP93

Which further leads to me sculpting some all new Chaos Dwarfs.
My goal is to fill in the gaps within the 4th edition line of Big Hats, and most importantly to have them in the classic Perry style (but with some updated bits and details).
Our dear Admiral will cast them and make them available to people.
And I must say, I've learned an all new respect for all you guys who sculpt figures! It's a lot of work!
Frustrating, time consuming and rewarding all at once.
My first two attempts sucked, they were too tall (boo! hiss!) ...I currently have three guys I'm working on (of proper proportions to the 4th edition miniatures). Plus I'm working on 6 individual Big Hats, and a new set of great weapons (again, all in 4th edition style).
So, here is the first guy nearly done...an ammo loader for death rockets, war machines, mortars, artillery, whatever you want him to be.
And yeah, the rocket shell he's carrying is separate, so people can get creative with him (Bloodbeard suggested he hold a big cat 🐱 )
His Big Hat can also be swapped out with other hat designs...hopefully you get the idea  Takes Hat off
Again, sorry for the poor pics (and if anyone can help me figure out how to insert these pics into this post, you have my gratitude):

Different Big Hat:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/Kju08mYYKmDrRIGT2

https://photos.app.goo.gl/eomWgaBueK3X5Zw43

There's still a bit more work he needs (feet would be nice), as well as cleaning up some small imperfections and details. But hopefully you all will like the little fella  Takes Hat off

Feedback and comments are always welcome, and as I said earlier, he and others will be cast for purchase through Admiralty Miniatures  Hashut!

Next up...bazooka!

RE: Fuggit Khan's Big Hats, Big Noses n' Big Teeth Army BlogAdmiral 04-04-2018

Yay! Cheers!

As to pictures, the new default site is Imgur, just as Photobucket was previously. Fingers crossed Imgur stays stable and user-friendly. I'd advise creating an album for everything you upload (e.g. Bazooka Team, Big Hat Kit, Family, Cat Pictures), to not lose sight of pictures in the mass as they ramp up over time. Every new little project that will ramp up a sizeable amount of pictures is worth its own album. Albums can be switched around by dragging them on Imgur, so it's easy to keep those relevant to you for the moment on top, while others go to the bottom for longer storage.

Google Photos and Google Drive are not made for sharing pictures from. They are just private backup albums, albeit albums one can show others indirectly via links to the albums in question. Enjoysrandom nevertheless figured out a clever method to link Google Drive images to forums, but this had a serious drawback: It appears that only other Google Drive users could see his forum-shared pictures, while they were blank and dead to others (remember the sharing of this Fuggit Khan model?). We are not sure if this conclusion is correct, but the scattered members who could view it visavi those who couldn't, was in any case rather random.

Anyhow, keep storing photos on Google Photos/Drive as backup, but use Imgur for sharing pictures on forums. As we saw with the Imageshack picture death, and the Photobucket crisis respectively, that having backup stores is important. Anything digital is flimsy like a leaf, but is also easier to copy than an amöba.

By the way, your phone camera shots are clear enough. No worries.

Lovely concept art and background idea for the Dark Bell Tower. Good bell-like symbol design as well. Clearly, inspiration has struck!

The rocket carrier looks good, and having him as a multi-part figure is highly useful for hobbyists (and something trickier than sculpting a single-piece miniature). Him holding a big cat is a marvellous idea! Albeit a Danish one. Big Grin

Choosing which big hat to use is something CD collectors have been looking for, for a long time. And having a kit of different hats should go down well. One Man o' War collecting customer asked me previously about buying separate hats, since he had started to use spare hats (Taming of the Wildman kit) as part of the superstructure for scratchbuilding ships. Lots of uses! When not on the heads of miniatures, they can adorn terrain.

Solid designs! Will the face get a moustache and perhaps lips and tusks? Or is the moustache perhaps curled seamlessly into the beard? Bushy eyebrows that don't disturb the placement of the hats could look good. Out of curiosity, how does his backside look? Something I've tried to follow as a realism detail is that all warriors ought to have a knife or dagger somewhere. Things like pouches and knife scabbards can just be hanging on to glimpses of straps protruding from between the scale rows, as in Perry and Zonk sculpts. Or they could be hanging from e.g. diagonal swordbelts (gehäng in Swedish) such as here or here. As to sidearm scabbards, if you would decide to include it on sculpts, they could be straight or curved, anything goes.

I'll toss ideas at you like I do at everyone else, though these aren't to be taken as directives from above or anything of the sort. It's just feedback like everyone's feedback. Remember that you're completely free to sculpt these figures and bits however you like. I'm just happy to cast and sell them.

Besides, the above sculpt looks like he could be placed without holding anything in front of a Chaos Dwarf babe: "Give me a hug!"

Happy to see this progress report from sunnier climes while the snow is raining away outside up here in the cold north!
