Hothgar's armynoigrim 04-22-2014

So, today I finished the two constructs that thanks to Hotgar daemonbane Respect to the Mask! fill now two of the three needed core units for my 2000pts army, the third it's a unit of 20 chaos dwarfs with great weapons still to come.

I wasn't convinced with the legs of the first model that I made, so in the second I added a layer of cardboard along the sides of them, I also included a circular gear in the connection with the body of the construct to make it look like an articulation around wich the leg would turn. In the foots I added a hoof-looking plate to increase the bull aspect of the lot.

And in the bases, I scratched two more runes of Hashut Hashut!. Firstly I'll paint the model and the runes, afterwards I'll glue it and add the remaining sand around the legs.

By the way, anyone knows how I can post less huge images?

And as always more Hobby stuff in my blog

The legs look better with the cardboard surfaces.

The cardboard really helps the miniatures seem more "finished". I'm looking forward to seeing how they'll look finished and painted.

Consider adding some bolts and rivets to the minature. Can be made from thin plastic rod, spears or toothpicks cut in small slices. Will add loads of extra detail for a very limited amount of work.

Picture size: Google "online picture resize" and go to one of the first pages.

Otherwise upload your pictures to an open album on picassa (needs a google account). That page automatically resize pictures to a smaller size.

RE: Hothgar's armynoigrim 04-30-2014

Chaos dwarfs constructs finished!
To paint the lava effect in the bases, I followed TommyH's tutorial in  word of Hashut #2. I painted the constructs in a dark metallic colour mixing vallejo's "arte deco" pewter with a bit of black, painting the details in GW gehenna's gold. To make the volcanic sand I just painted black with a drybrush of neutral grey.

Painting metal over the white of the foambord can be a demanding situation, so it is always better to apply a base layer of some dark colour before, I do not recommend the use of sprays since most of them will tend to melt the foam of your foamboard, so an acrylic paint and a brush it's always a better option. Also despite taking more time you will spend les money since the sprays tend to run out very quickly.

A closeup of the bases before glueing the models: the Hashut rune in the left one disappeared after painting the black! so i had to improvise and paint some magma in the empty spaces left by the sand

A good thing of combining metal and fire is that the red glow of the lava is automatically reflected by the metalic paint as can be observed in the foot of the left model.
