Have to say, these are looking amazing!  I am definitely in for a set of all of these once they are cast.  A great job on the priestess too!  It follows the sketch very well.  Looks like I need to get some more sketches done.  Been away from the hobby for the most part for a few months now, but hope to turn my attention back to in in a week or so.

@JMR: Excellent proposals. Acting upon 'em. Kit will include at least two variant hat parts, though a tall cylinder like in Jackswift's sketch will still feature.

@Jackswift: Thanks a lot! Looking forward to future sketches!

@Fuggit Khan: Thanks! Check if you've got fever or some other illness. Surely a hat cannot be too big to the Khan of Khans?

@BABIS: Hacked for sure, though of what little I've seen, many AoS players are veterans, not rarely with old minis on round bases.

@Scar: Thanks, and I'll lend that glory to Bloodbeard!

Temple Harlot and Wildman

The priestess and her hats remain to be finished, the other three miniatures in the kit are completed. The aim is to include at least one civilian/slave miniature in each and every future 28mm release. For this kit, a sacred prostitute and a shackled Satyr fills the bill, making it a scene of ultimate sacrifice at the hands of the priestess' blade.

At first, I had some loose plans to include some Human or Elven slave in rags since Goblins feature in the first kit, but then it struck: This would be an evil Dwarf diorama based on Shamhat and Enkidu from the Epic of Gilgamesh, since we already have a Temple Harlot. With a dark twist, this is the taming of the Wildman, subdued by the Stricken Dwarf. Enkidu didn't have horns in the ancient Mesopotamian myth, yet he is often depicted with horns in modern images, like in this one by artist Neil Dalrymple. As such, it made some sense to base him on ancient depictions of Pan and satyrs.

If you know what Shamhat and Enkidu were doing before getting to Uruk, you understand why the Temple Harlot would be thirsty for drink...

The Satyr's hair is based on the Dying Gaul's, to get that wild look.

You are indeed quite the Master Sculptor Cheers!
I love that your blog and sculpts have so much influence from history and mythology. Mixing gaming and history is wonderful (they are my two hobby passions).
Although I must admit I would prefer to see less anatomy and more castration on the Satyr sculpt (I recall reading somewhere that the Assyrians castrated all male slaves) Sick

@Fuggit Khan: Thank you kindly! Mixing fantasy, mythology and history is irresistible, just too good to pass up. After all, in fantasy all those dorky monsters and trolls and dwarfs are supposed to be real. Oh, and you've got a pair of clippers for the satyr, haven't you?

@Commander Panda: Thanks a lot! Then that impression has been achieved. Cheers!

As per JMR's proposal, I'm making two different hats for the priestess. As you can see below, one of the options is based on Jackswift's great drawing. I couldn't manage the fine spikes on the crown and had to settle down for blunter dags, but hopefully the impression isn't ruined. Also, the rib lines on the hat mutated into lightning bolts.

Thanks a lot, everyone! Takes Hat off

@Skink: Good point! Mayhap a terrain/diorama decoration kit would be something on the to-do list for the future? Not that soon, though.

Next hat finished. Horned onion, top part decorations based on ancient Assyrian crowns:

Nice work on the hats.  Have you considered doing a set of hats that you could cast up to sell for people wanting to convert vanilla dwarfs into CDs?

I think that it would be worth doing, as I would LOVE more hat options for my chaos dwarves.  I hope that the answer is a yes Happy

Thanks! I've considered it, and it's certainly on the to-do-list. The trick question is, hats only or hats+bearded faces? Your input wanted, folks. Happy

Taming of the Wildman of Ancient Times

Finished for casting. Couldn't manage a sleek blade, regrettably, and had to compensate with carved runes. The right arm of the Priestess looks long like a monkey limb, but is in actual fact the correct length for most fantasy dwarf miniatures' anatomy. When Dwarfs keep their arms bent or waving about, you rarely notice that they can almost touch their own toes while standing upright:

Next up, two non-evil dwarf projects: A dungeon detail kit for Zealot Miniatures, and then an elven blademaster.

I say either hats only or a mix as hats only can be added easily to vanilla dwarf heads and can be used for things like base decorations, unit filler decorations, in dioramas, as details/scatter for terrain, etc

Very nicely done on the entire lot, and very nice sculpting and detail work on the Priestess.  She came out beautifully and the little details add quite a bit to the final sculpt.  Very true to the sketch as well.  Looking forward to picking up a set of these, and getting a cast in hand!

Both hats look great, and again the detail you added to both is very, very well done.  One thought re the hat version from the sketch.  You might try making the nose on the relief sculpt chaos dwarf face stick out just a little bit more than the rest of the hat detail (if that will cast).  Great as is however, if you are counting it done!

Cheers, JR
