At long last, the 19th Golden Hat competition is here!

This one is a big one! The K'daai Destroyer! In case you don't know, K'daai Destroyers are massive constructs fashioned into the form of mighty warriors or iron beasts, such as gargantuan monstrous bulls and other nightmarish creations, awakened by mass blood sacrifice and set loose upon the enemy! Your task is to bring one of these to life! With the release of the Chaos Slaughterbrute, there are definitely a bunch of great models on which to base a Destroyer conversion. Let your imagination run wild! For those of you who are already in the process of converting a Destroyer, you may enter them in this contest, provided they haven't been painted yet!

We realize we are a bit off track of our usual contest schedule. Sorry for this. We may run an Artisan's Contest along with this Golden Hat to try and catch up. Stay tuned for news on that. But for now, down to business.

Specifics
Subject: 1 K'daai Destroyer on a 100mm by 150mm base.
Bases: Diorama style bases are allowed! 100mm by 150mm is a lot of base to work with and a Destroyer ought to be an army's centerpiece. No Display bases or plinths, though, please.
Due Date: 11:59 PM May 21st, 2013 EST (Eastern Standard Timezone)

Please sure to read the complete Golden Hat competition rules before submitting your entry.

Submission
All entries must be sent to the Golden Hat account no later than the due date. Entries will not be accepted after this. (Entrants have ~6 weeks to complete entries). If for some reason you are having trouble with your submission, contact one of the Staff. In order to avoid problems, entrants should not wait until the last minute to submit their entries.

How to Enter
Upload up to 4 photos of your entries to the Internet. Photos may not have additional text or items/models unrelated to your entry. Next, send a PM to Golden Hat (a special user that all Staff have access to) containing the links where the pictures can be found. (Note: This is the same as previous Golden Hats).

If you win:
- Walk across the backs of the cowed masses you have scorned and pushed aside, in order to take your place in the vaunted Golden Hat Hall of Fame.
- Receive the Golden Hat medal for your online persona (As with previous Golden Hats; if there are more then 10 entrants the silver and bronze Golden Hat Medals will be awarded as well).
- Everyone who enters gets a number of slaves equal to the number of entries. If 20 people enter we award 20 slaves to each person who entered. Entries will count towards a veteran medal.

Once all entries are received a thread will be created for voting and determining the winners!

If there are any questions it is best post them here so that everyone can benefit from any details or clarifications that may arise.

For the 6th time in the history of CDO its time to take a step back and consider those that have contributed to the cause of Chaos Dwarfs in the year just past, 2012 namely. For those not in the know, every January we look back at the year gone by and start accepting nominations for awards as voted by the members of Chaos Dwarfs Online.

At stake is the recognition of your fellows and the 2012 community award medals (yet to be created... hint, hint Xander). These medals are one of the most coveted medals that one can win as it is voted on entirely by your peers based on your conduct on the site. No other medal on the site is dependent on your actions and standing amongst your peers. As such only 5 are given out in one calendar year.

So with all this now is the time to get your nominations in. REMEMBER: As in years past this is only for achievements in the year 2012. Anything that has been achieved in years past other than 2012 is not counted for nominations.

The categories for 2012 are unchanged from previous years and are as follows:

Best Attitude - A member should be nominated on their forum presence and behavior toward other members, displaying exemplary attitudes of kindness and encouragement.

Best General - This member is always ready to give advice on army lists, has very good lists of his own, and perhaps has won a tournament or two using his Chaos Dwarf army.

Best Hobbyist -A nominee for this award has contributed an amazing model, or models that exemplifies what a Chaos Dwarf army should look like: flawless execution of conversion and painting while adhering to the Chaos Dwarf mythos.

Best Contributor - This award will go the member that has contributed most to the cause of the Chaos Dwarfs. He or she has done or made something that has profoundly benefited the presence of Chaos Dwarfs as a whole!

Best Overall Member - This member may not be the best hobbyist, might not ever win a tournament, but he or she has a great presence on the site, the forum, the wiki, the chat and whatever else! They are dedicated to the cause of the Chaos Dwarfs!

What to nominate for?
I encourage you to supply the reason for your nominations. If you can't think of who to nominate for a category, do some research. If you don't know who the best general should be for example, take a look at the Gaming section of the forum. Who's been posting battle reports, tactic and helping others with army lists? These should help you come up with a nominee.

How to Nominate
PM your nominations to Staff (a special user that all Staff have access to).

NOTE: You can only nominate one person per category. If you can't decide which one, flip a coin!

Nominations should include this:

Award Name
Member Name
The contribution that should be recognized and why they should be recognized.

As in the past the nominations will be tallied and ranked. The top 3 members for each category will then be sent a pm asking them to accept or reject their nomination. If they accept they will then become an official nominee.

If a member rejects the nomination it will be offered to the person with the 4th highest votes, and so on. This may mean if a lot of people reject nominations, or there are not enough people nominated in a category there may only be 1 or 2 people to vote for (or potentially none).

If a person does not reply to the pm we will work on the assumption that they want it and it will automatically be accepted on the behalf of the Staff.

We will not tell people how many other nominees there are, nor will we reveal who the nominees are prior to the next post that announces the official voting.

The final nominees' names will then be prepared in separate polls for all to vote on beginning in February. After this there will be a 2 week public poll to decide the winners.

Deadlines:
The deadline for sending in nominations is 11:59 PM EST (eastern standard time) February 5th, 2013. This gives a solid 2 weeks to get nominations in and prepare the polls.

Exempt Members
Note, any members with warnings outstanding will not be given the opportunity to accept a nomination. We will not discuss any of this with the community at large as this is only pertinent to the Staff and the member(s) in question.

The Staff CAN be nominated, HOWEVER, they must not be nominated for their staff-related duties. For example, Willmark could be nominated for his work on "X", but not for being excellent at moderating the forums. This way we are all on fair ground. We are dealing with what we offer the forum as members, not as staffers.

If you have any questions, just ask any of the Staffers! Send your nominations in as soon as you can!

Welcome, slaves, to the 18th Golden Hat competition!

Subject Matter
For this Golden Hat competition we want more Hobgoblin Slaves! The goal is to create 5 Hobgoblin models.

The only restrictions is that the models must be on foot (no mounted entries this time around) and not include a standard bearer. Display bases, plinths, as well as diorama style bases, are not allowed.
The full rules for basing can be found here.

Specifics
Subject: 5 Hobgoblins
The due Date: 11:59 PM November 16th, 2012 EST (Eastern Standard Timezone)

Please read the full rules that apply to the Golden Hat competition before submitting your entry.

Submission
All entries must be sent to the Golden Hat account no later 11:59 PM November 16th, 2012 EST (Eastern Standard Timezone). Entries will not be accepted after this as we are aiming for a quick turnaround on getting the voting thread posted. (Entrants have ~5 weeks to complete entries).

If, for some reason, you are having trouble with your submission, contact one of the Staff. In order to avoid problems, entrants should not wait until the last minute to submit their entries...

- Receive the Golden Hat medal for your online persona *
- Everyone who enters gets a number of slaves equal to the number of entries. If 20 people enter we award 20 slaves to each person who entered.

*= As with previous Golden Hats; if there are more then 10 entrants the silver and bronze Golden Hat Medals will be awarded as well.

Entries will count towards a veteran medal.

Once all entries are received a thread will be created for voting as quickly as possible (within a few days). If there are any questions it is best post them here so that everyone can benefit from any details or clarifications that may arise.

Presented below are the 6 entries we received for Artisan's Contest XIII, which was to create a piece of table-top scenery with the phrase "The Long Road to Zharr Naggrund" as inspiration for the theme.

How to vote
Choose your favourite entry and select it in the poll above.

This is a 10 day timed poll, after which it will automatically close and we will start a new thread to officially announce the winner. As there were less than 10 entries there will only be a gold medal awarded.

The entrants will be given 6 slaves each once the winner has been announced.

Each entrant was allowed to have a single model included in images for scale, however, any additional models had to be part-and-parcel of the overall piece of scenery. Based on some descriptions sent by some of the entrants, staff are satisfied that all close-ups of individual models are indeed part of the scenery. Entrants were allowed to submit up to 4 photos. Click an image for a larger 1100x900 pixel version.

EDIT: WEEK FIFTEEN UP NOW

CDO Presents: The Daemonsmith's Handbook!
This week we're launching what we hope is going to be a great new feature of Chaos Dwarfs Online. The idea behind the Daemonsmith's Handbook (which was stolen by our most devious Hobgoblins from our fellow Chaos Star site COTEC) is to create a reservoir of Dawi'zhaar tactical wisdom for new and old members alike.

The Legion of Azgorh

How will it work?
Each week the staff will post a new thread with a topic for discussion, starting this week with Infernal Guard. Members can then post their tactics, modelling suggestions and debate the best uses of that particular unit. At the end of the week, we'll edit the first post to show the highlights of the thread and send it to a shiny new subforum which will eventually hold the accumulated wisdom of Chaos Dwarfs Online. At least that's the plan...

FAQ
Q. What sort of thing are you looking for?
A. Absolutely anyone can contribute, but as with any topic on the forum try to make your posts concise and constructive.
Q. What sort of topics will be covered?
A. The first few weeks will be focused on individual unit entries. Future topics will look at list building, army wide tactics and facing specific foes, amongst other things.

Q. Which army books will be included?
A. To avoid confusion we will be sticking to the list included in Tamurkhan for the moment. If there is enough interest we will cover Ravening Hordes and the more popular fan lists at a later date.

Welcome all to Artisan’s Contest XIII!

The Long Road to Zharr Naggrund

The theme for this Artisan's Contest is to create a piece of Chaos themed scenery, with the focus of the subject being "The Long Road to Zharr Naggrund" as your inspiration. Beyond it being a piece of Chaos Dwarf scenery, that somehow relates to "the long road to Zharr Naggrund" (which could be literally or just an abstract association with the concept), this contest is relatively unrestricted in terms of scope.

Your piece of scenery could be something the size of a single model (in which case it should be obvious it's a intended to be a piece of scenery and not an actual unit), it could be an existing piece of Citadel scenery that fits the theme, or it could be something truly gargantuan that has only lived in your imagination until now!

Deadline

The deadline for the submission of entries is the 29th of September 2012 at 11:59pm EST.

Only enter if you are happy with the rules as they are stated:

Rules of the Competition

Each member may only enter once.

Create a piece of Chaos Dwarf scenery, using "The Long Road to Zharr Naggrund" as your inspiration. The maximum and minimum dimensions of the scenery is unrestricted.

The scenery need not to be made to accommodate other models or units (i.e. it does not need to be made so that models can enter or occupy the scenery), but there is no penalty to creating a piece of scenery that can be traversed by models either.

Please note, however, that this is a contest for a piece of scenery and collections of models should not be shown with the scenery in entry photographs unless they are a part of the scenery itself.

How to Enter?

Submit your entry by sending a PM to Staff (a special user that all Staff have access to) with four photos of your entry. Please do not send an e-mail to any of the admin or staff accounts as this is a sure fire way to have your entry overlooked.

Also, do not post your entries in the forum.

How will this be judged?

By early October we will post the entries to a new entries thread where members can vote.

If there are more than 10 entries there will be Gold, Silver and Bronze Artisan's medals.

Good luck everyone!

Welcome to the 17th Golden Hat competition!

Subject Matter
For this Golden Hat competition we want to see your War Machines! This could be something pre-8th Edition, such as a Hobgoblin Bolt Thrower, a Tenderiser, an Earthshaker Cannon; it could be something from the Legion of Azgorh list, such as an Iron Daemon, a Magma Cannon; or perhaps something of your own creation! Please keep in mind, if this is a Warmachine of your own creation, it should still be recognizable as a warmachine, not a K'daai Destroyer or something else. Yes, technically the Hellcannon, and the older Seige Cannon (aka "Ass-cannon"), are Monsters, but these the only Chaos Dwarf pieces that we're going to allow to cross-over into this competition.

Your Warmachine must be Chaos Dwarf-related, but beyond that it may be operated by a number of Chaos Dwarf(s), Bull Centaur(s), Hobgoblin(s), Slave(s), etc.

EDIT: Restrictions on basing have been lifted. Any kind of base will be permitted. Additionally, while a war machine typically will have crew, this is not a requirement any longer (nor is there a limitation on the maximum number of crew). Ogre slaves and other beasts used in the service of the Machine of War are permitted, and this can include monsters of any size or description. The war machine itself ought to be the focus , however. We want to see the coolest Chaos Dwarf war machines ever constructed in the depths of Zharr Naggrund!

Also:
Display bases, plinths, as well as diorama style bases, are allowed.
The full rules for basing can be found here.

Specifics
Subject: 1 Chaos Dwarf War Machine
The due Date: 11:59 PM June 30th, 2012 EST (Eastern Standard Timezone)

Please read the full rules that apply to the Golden Hat competition before submitting your entry.

What is the deadline?
Once again, this is the same basic premise as previous Golden Hats; send all entries to the Golden Hat account no later 11:59 PM June 30th, 2012 EST (Eastern Standard Timezone). Entries will not be accepted after that date and time regardless of how cool your submission is. (Entrants have ~5 weeks to complete entries).

If, for some reason, you are having trouble with your submission, contact one of the Staff. In order to avoid problems, entrants should not wait until the last minute to submit their entries...

How to Enter
Upload up to 4 photos of your entries to the Internet.

- The top entry will also receive a Forge World Hellsmith, courtesy of Grimstonefire, which includes 'free' postage (up to a value of £3, any additional postage cost will need to be paid for by the winner) -- the perfect accompanying character for your prize-winning warmachine!!

Once all entries are received a thread will be created for voting within the first week of July, 2012. If there are any questions please send a PM to myself, another Staff member or post them here. Ideally post them here so that everyone can benefit from any details or clarifications that may arise.
