RE: Chaos-Khazalid DictionairyMadHatter 03-04-2014

Update
Since we're moving the project from a WoH-article to a Wiki-entry I changed the title, intro and added 'other phrases' aswell as 'geographical locations' to the overviews list to include all known words spoken by the Dawi-Zharr. A minor expansion of the project which greatly expands the subject compared to just focusing on the Tamurkhan phrases!

*Updated Daemonsmith entry according to HB's input, moved Sorcerer down into the Other phrases section.

RE: Chaos-Khazalid DictionairyMadHatter 03-05-2014

There's simply no words for either ship, boat or barge however the importance of the Chaos Dwarf Fleet in Lore cannot be ignored (How else would we do battle with Lizardmen!?). I hope this suggested entry will open the dictionary project up to later also include Man-O'-War terms Pirate

...

Battlebarge
Varrbarag (Literally: Sea-Warmachine)

Stem:
Barag - Cannon, siege machine, war machine (Khazalid)
Varr - Sea (Khazalid)

Khazalid Grammar:
Contraction: varr-barag: Varrbarag

...

"We will turn the Fortress of the Dawn to rubble!"
"Ut an rikkazen Kazad-Kaakzhy!" (Literally: We Will Turn to rubble Fortress Sunrise)

Ut - Us, we, ourselves (Khazalid)
An - Will, shall, am going to, with purpose (Khazalid)
Rikkazen - Crush, to beat to a pulp, to turn to rubble (Khazalid)
Kazad - Fortress (Khazalid)
Kaaqshy - sunrise/sunset (Dark Tongue of Chaos)

Khazalid Grammar:
n/a

RE: Chaos-Khazalid DictionairyMadHatter 03-06-2014

I e-mailed forgeworld and asked them to literally define K'daai and got the following reply:

Hi,
Thank you for your email.  On page 184 of Tamurkharn is the information about the K'daai, it explains that they are half Daemon, half raging magma fire birthed in boiling blood of Hahut's sacrifices, contained in an armoured framework

If there is anything further we can do to assist you, or if you have any queries about the information we have requested or provided, please telephone us.

Regards,
Forge World

If you have a query about your order, please call
0115 900 4995 within the UK
011 44 115 900 4995 from the US and Canada
00 44 115 900 4995 from much of Europe

Our office hours are:
0930 – 1800 (GMT) Monday to Friday

...

So...

K'daai - (Literally: half Daemon, half raging magma fire birthed in boiling blood of Hashut's sacrifices, contained in an armoured framework) ; Chaos Dwarf specific

RE: The Chaos-Khazalid Dictionairy ProjectHashut's Blessing 03-09-2014

Loving the progress I've seen. I'm going to make a concerted effort to get some better input on the project - MadHatter sent me a PM asking me to co-lead the project and it would be an honour.

My one comment until that time is - consider the pronunciation: Khazalid is a hard and guttural language, whereas the Dark Tongue is more oily and slithering - it can create some beautiful sounds and some that are a smidge awkward (although some should be due to it being a Chaotic language). A nice thing to do in some places is contract words (dhaosy-i'aqshy for example, I'm feeling we could contract into dha'aqshy - there are rules for such things in the 6th edition Hordes of Chaos Book. Also, some elements like a-aqshy [using the Khazalid "of" and Dark Tongue "fire"] can be edited, using the 6th edition Dwarfs book: something I'll be looking into Wink ).

Lastly, once we've started to get some of this really refined and crackalacking (new English word............. Yeah..... They'll believe that...), I want to do a Youtube series on pronunciation - I am an actor, after all Big Grin Then, it's a case of forming it into a fully fleshed language (I.E. how to build a sentence and such). MWAHAHAHAHA!

I couldn't agree more, contracting sure seems like the way to go, can't wait to see where this course will take the project! Some very valid points, discussing refining (we sure would need a new entry on the rules how to do this with an example below the general guidelines paragraph) imagining a Chaos Dwarf speaking Daemonic might also require dwarfifying (yep) the DToC. Khazalid is alot of i, ul, az, ak and k's which could for instance make a dwarfified version of the contracted term dha'aqshy into the more gargle-friendly dha'akzhi, which would somewhat tie together Priestley's definition of the Chaos-Dwarf language as a Khazalid dialect with the intrusion of DToC, let me know what you think!

Ill continue to add entries as usual since I don't quite get the hang of the contracting rules yet and later when you got the time we can get it refined and crackalacking (2nd time said ever!). Speaking of which (I haven't seen the blueprints but we might actually need to bring the Sorcerer-Engineers in on this one) this 'Crackalacking Refinery' of which you speak sure sounds like it is involving K'daai technology. Is it hellbound by default? Can we mount it on a steamtrain? By Hashut, these questions need answers!

That Youtube series would be the most epic thing ever, I see a subculture rising Shock I really think we have a good chance to reach the point of a fully fleshed language, we are in a unique position ahead of the lesser races here, being able to combine Khazalid and DToC!

EDIT: We should perhaps somewhat discuss the use of ' and - aswell, I don't really have any idea what I'm actually doing there Big Grin

"Thank you for your email. Taur'ruk and Ba'hal are both ranks of unit leader, Taur'ruk being above Ba'hal. Beyond this we have not defined their meaning, the Chaos Dwarfs are still mysterious to us in many ways. Both Taurus and Lammasu would be pronounced in the same way as the Dwarf tongue."

My thoughts exactly.

As for Zhugulzar, I think that "the black port" would be a colloquial name rather than a literal translation of the name. I cannot find any further information apart from a vague location.
